This review is from: YAMAHA R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver
Pros: If you're committed to listening to music in good "old-fashioned analog stereo," this receiver will serve you well. Solidly built and quite surprised of how heavy it is for just 2-channel stereo. Very musical and dynamic with sufficient 100-wpc amplication. Sound is VERY clean, crisp, and revealing with a slight embellishment of the higher end frequencies. Bass, mid-bass, and voices are clear and articulate. The tuner is very good and captures all the major local stations in Central NY.
Cons: Not convinced that the $600 MSRP and $500 selling price is justified for pure bred ANALOG 100-wpc STEREO. IMO, it would be a steal for less than $350. Was expecting the shipment to be double-boxed, but it wasn't and the overall condition of the box showed no dents or rips - your mileage will vary.
Other Thoughts: If you're considering this item, most likely you're looking for a solid stereo receiver with 1980s throw back decor. The primary usage of this receiver is to play back my tunes from an iPOD and also from a laptop, both of which are connected via an outboard Peachtree Audio iDAC and KEF Q300 bookshelf speakers. Sorry, but if your source material is mediocre, this receiver will let you know very quickly. I ran it straight for 10-hours at comfortable listening levels and the top surface was barely warm to the touch. At 90% of its rated volume output, music was loud and without strain or harshness.
