3 out of 5 eggsLiked it but...

Pros: Setup was fast and easy. EnGenius practically holds your hand and walks you through it, but never felt overbearing. Wireless range was pretty decent, speeds were good also. Perfect for a small home or apartment. No issues gaming on PS3 or PC.

Cons: LAN ports failed after 6 months, had to replace it with a different router.

Other Thoughts: I really liked this router when it worked, you just set it and forget it. It's a real shame that it didn't last any longer than 6 months though. It went down right during finals, so I couldn't wait to do an RMA on it, had to replace it with a big named brand.

4 out of 5 eggsBought this to replace the older version, pretty happy

Pros: I bought the v2 version as a backup to my original ESR9850. After I started having slight difficulty in connecting one of my laptops (Atheros chipset, had to reboot the laptop after sleep mode to connect) I put the backup in place to see if it would help. While my benchmarks were always top-notch with the older router, I noticed an immediate improvement in response times with this one. Websites are snappier across the board. I will keep the older one and refresh the firmware just in case (it did have a problem with the last upgrade, maybe that caused some issue) and keep this one in place.

Overall a very good Internet appliance Engenius. Kudos for staying focused on making a fast, reliable, inexpensive device instead of getting distracted like the rest of the industry by trying to make mini-Linux computers out of them (and screwing up the works in the process).

Cons: Not seeing the v2 version explicitly listed on the site, so I couldn't find out if there were firmware updates. I see in the comments below there are, so please consider updating your website so we can find them.

Also, discontinued product. I think with a different case and some more firmware updates, you could have continued this product as the top-quality offering of the low-price contenders.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks, but has flaws. Going in the garbage.

Pros: Works-
-simple to set up,
-defaults that make sense
-games for windows live works with it (which isnt as common as you'd think)
-has a high enough wan to lan throughput to keep up with 30mbit wan

Cons: -Does not keep track of DHCP leases through a reboot. this is BAD because the default DHCP lease time is FOREVER.
-Dyndns.org update did not work when my IP changed, forcing me to reboot the router.
-forwarding TCP/UDP 1723 to a LAN machine (pptp server) caused UDP53 (DNS) to stop working. (???) Repeated this three times to be sure...
-Cant seem to block wan IP ranges in the firewall. Might be user error.
-Interface wants to default to a wizard for everything, and the wizard wants to overwrite any manual settings. Annoying

Other Thoughts: I purchased this after reading rave reviews from smallnetbuilder.com on the v1 hardware for this model. After using it a couple weeks, this might just be the worst router I've ever used- only trumped by the $200 netgear I bought locally that couldn't figure out upnp as well as my 10+ year old wrt54gv2.

5 out of 5 eggsGet this router and y

Pros: Great price. Easy setup. Great throughput (up and down speeds). Nice looking. What more could you ask for?

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: So here's why I think this router is so great:
My old router was not keeping up to speed with my internet service. Now, I have a plan that provides 50mbps download and 10mbps upload speeds when connected directly to the ISP modem; however, my download throughput was being drastically reduced when I was connected through my old router (via ethernet). Specifically, my top download speed was being reduced to 36mbps and my upload speed was OK. The old router had 10/100 port speeds and, although I thought the 100mbps port should handle the 50mbps download speed, it didn't. So, I started looking for a router that had a gigabit port (10/100/+1000) and I found this beauty at a buy now price. And let me tell you, I'm glad I did because I have no lag on download speeds on the ethernet connection (same as modem) through the router and my laptop wireless download speed has increase from about 10-14mbps to a whopping 45mbps. Now, since I am using the highest encryption available, that may account for missing the 5mbps (when wireless). Anyway, I'm one happy camper! The only thing I haven't tested is connectivity from a real distance because I normally use my laptop in the next room so you're on your own for that!
