5 out of 5 eggsCoffee in 3 minutes . . .still!

Pros: Coffee in three minutes.

Did I say . . .GOOD COFFEE?

Cons: My won't last much longer than 11 years!

Other Thoughts: This is my third Bunn.
1st in Jan-1988
2nd in Oct-1999
3rd now in Aug-2011
I wonder how long before #4?

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Makes great coffee. I've owed several Bunns over the years and they have all made great coffee. Tip - if you have soft water, call Bunn and ask for the soft water spray head.

Cons: This particular model only lasted slightly more than two years where past models have been much more reliable. The biggest issue is that this one shorted out and tripped my GFCI breaker. I made coffee with it last night and it was fine. This morning I woke up to a tripped breaker in the kitchen that I traced to the Bunn. Based on past experience, I am extremely disappointed.

2 out of 5 eggsNot another

Pros: Always liked bunn coffee makers, have had 3 over the last 20 years, the first two each lasted about 9 years of daily use. This one that I bought from Newegg lasted 2 years and 10 days, just past the warranty period. It shorted out, and had it not been plugged into a GFCI it might well have started a fire.

Cons: This one that I bought from Newegg lasted 2 years and 10 days, just past the warranty period. It shorted out, and had it not been plugged into a GFCI it might well have started a fire.

Other Thoughts: I think I am going to research a new coffee maker to buy, and leave bunn behind. For the money, I think I should be able to expect a bit more. If it were $50 or less , then it might have been an ok, deal, but these things are usually over a hundred. Just not the quality they use to be. Nothing is I guess

5 out of 5 eggsIn Case You are Wondering

Pros: This is actually not a review on how good this coffee maker is. I have only had it for a couple of hours so I can't really comment on that. This is a calculation on what it costs to operate it. This info is hard to find. I know because I looked for it before my purchase. See below.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Using a meter to calculate what the cost would be to operate this unit I found the following.
1. Heats water using 826 watts for about 12 minutes.
2. The heating element for the pot draws about 175 watt while on.
3. On standby the meter shows to keep the heated water in the reservoir hot requires 28 watts.

To sum up: @ 12 cents per kilowatt hour it costs $6.00 per month to operate this coffee pot making one pot per day, and leaving the heating element on 6 hours.

5 out of 5 eggsFor demanding coffee environments

Pros: Brews a single pot in 3 minutes.
Brews pots back to back in under 15 minutes.
Safe to leave water heater on 24/7 so there is no waiting in the morning for the unit to warm up.

This one is replacing the 2004 model which just started leaking and was retired. That one clocked in just over 4000 pots of coffee, which is good when the unit is less than $100.

This model uses the same construction so it should last another 4 or 5 years making 20 pots a week.

Cons: Even though it says "Home Coffee Brewer", this is not suitable for most people's home usage pattern.

If you don't make more than 2 pots of coffee a day, you will waste power as the unit keeps the water hot between pots. If you turn off the water heater, you have to wait 15 minutes for it to heat up before you brew.

The wide dispersal pattern of the spray head and flow-through design makes it difficult to make less than half a pot at a time. You will end up wasting grounds and have it stronger than normal.

The design and operation is non-intuitive for anyone who is used to the drip-brew variety.

Other Thoughts: It's perfect for a small office or workgroup environment where you brew full pots 3 or more times a day; or for a large household of coffee aficionados.

The finish on the front panel with the warmer switch is brushed metal, not plastic.

5 out of 5 eggsBunn Rules

Pros: Fast, Fast, Fast. I have had 3 Bunns over the past 20 years or so. About the only thing that goes wrong with them is the Seal where the Plastic top meets the steel Hot Water tank. You can repair it a time or two with a new seal gasket and a bit of RTV compound. But over years the Plastic finally degrades. 5 - 7 years of Daily Use seems to be about the useful life of these. Read the Manual before USE!!

Cons: Wish you could get the Plastic tops as a repair part. But Bunn does not make them available. Also if you are gone more than a couple of days, Pull the Plug from the wall of cut the side switch off. The hot Water tank can boil dry in 3 - 4 days and will destroy the internal water heater. Read the Manual before USE!!!

Other Thoughts: I will continue to buy Bunn. If you currently have a Bunn a couple of years old, Check the Bunn web site. There is a recall for the leaking washer. Bunn will send you a box for returning it to their service center for repair, Or they will send you a rebate coupon of 50 bucks toward the purchase of an all new Bunn.

5 out of 5 eggsWrong Pic, that's a B10-B (discontinued model)

Pros: Bunn is the best brand for a coffee maker! Very Fast 3 minute brew.

Bunn has good customer service.

Cons: Recovery time for the next pot depends on the model you buy. Home brewers are slower to recover hot water than commercial brewers, meaning you couldn't brew 2 or 3 pots simultaneously as it takes time for the water heater to heat the water for the next pot, but I have had a B-10 for 6 years and I love it.

Other Thoughts: Pictured cofeepot is not the BXB!
That is a picture of the B10-B which I own. (discontinued) The newer model is the the one with the stainless faceplate.BXB and personally isnt as pretty (no stainless waterheater cover)
There was a recall on many of the home brewers which requires you to change out the seal. It is an easy task if you can work a screwdriver. Save yourself the inconvenience of sending it in to Bunn for them to do it, and ask them to send you the seal kit. It's easy to do.

5 out of 5 eggsNot exactly like the picture

Pros: Bunn makes fine coffee makers. My wife was undecided on the exact style. stainless tank with black front, or with the stainless faceplate. Although the picture shows a black front the one I received had the stainless face.

Could have been worse we will keep it.

Cons: should match the photo.
