4 out of 5 eggsStill grinds, but...

Pros: Small, makes exactly the amount I need for a pot of coffee from bean (only grind what is needed -- store the rest). Easy to clean

Cons: After many uses, the black plastic "Chamber Maid" cleaning system part wore off and is now removable. Not sure if it is serviceable or just buy new (which is probably cheaper).

Other Thoughts: Does not make coffee itself.

5 out of 5 eggsThis grinder rules

Pros: The settings can take a bit to get use to, but now that I always grind the same amount of beans (full cup) i leave the settings alone and it times it perfectly. I love the detachable cup and the little wiper insert that spins to get the majority of hidden grinds off the sides and bottom when you're done.

Cons: <sarcasm> It's not free, and I can't grind a full pound of coffee at once </sarcasm>

Other Thoughts: People really put "It's not a burr grinder" as a con?! it's also not a porsche, a Victoria Secret model, nor is it an iphone. People are crazy, this is a very nice, simple, easy to maintain blade grinder that has done the job for over 3 years for me without incident.

5 out of 5 eggsMr. Coffee IDS77 Coffee Grinder

Pros: The most obvious one for me was that the grinding 'cup' part fully detaches from the motor base, quintessentially making cleanup a snap. The lid portion of the cup also detaches, so you can further do a more thorough clean. The way the cup is designed, you can twist the lid portion and the sides of the cup are scraped, so you can try to get more of the coffee grinds off the side. Also has a cord wrapping thing under the unit, so if you need to store it, you can just wind it there and less clutter and hassle with another loose cord. Several settings to choose: Fine/Medium/Coarse and 4/6/8/10/12 cups.

Cons: The one major con I see, is that it tends to heat up a bit if you run it more than twice in a row without a 10-ish minute cool down. No biggie if you are just grinding for a quick cup/pot, but this is definitely not an industrial type coffee grinder, so dont push it. There is no option for less than 4 cups, but I see no reason why you couldnt just measure a cups worth, put it on 4 cups, select Fine/Med/Coarse and then holding the button until it looks about right, or just letting it finish. Oh, and that would be the next point: you have to physically hold the button [on the lid] down for it to grind. Not the worst thing since the longest it will grind for is about 15 sec though.

Other Thoughts: I personally use this coffee grinder more for pyrotechnical purposes: powdering potassium nitrate, re-powdering sugar, etc. But it definitely does a great job at grinding up the coffee too! For the price, you really cant go wrong, worst thing would be a 20 spot down the drain, but my coffee grinder has already made up for the investment. Again, just watch the overheating issue if you use it for spices/powders/etc because its easy to become so excited and running it again without realizing the motor is practically on fire. Dont know if this is a pro or con, but as others mention, this is a *blade* grinder, not the Burr Mill method. Lots of people complain, but for me, this is all I really need in a grinder at a decent price: ease of cleaning, reliable, quick, visually looks good, not overly bulky, etc.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter tasting coffee than expecteed

Pros: For the price, you can't beat the quality of this coffee grinder. It is perfect for most drip coffee users, and people who don't grind huge amounts of coffee beans

Cons: The green lights are always on.

Other Thoughts: It's ridiculous to complain that this isn't a burr coffee grinder. A good burr grinder will cost 5 times as much as this item.
If you need industrial strength coffee grinder, this isn't it. It is very good for for most home users though.

4 out of 5 eggsA Mistake

Pros: Cheap and has decent features. Dishwasher safe!

Cons: This grinder does NOT use the Burr Milling method. It is actually a blade grinder.

It doesn't brew less than 4 cups, but no serious grinder does that anyway.

Other Thoughts: If I had known this was a blade grinder I would not have purchased it. I can just put the beans in the blender to accomplish the same task. I specifically wanted a burr grinder. Pardon my prejudice for blade grinders, it's still a decent item overall.

4 out of 5 eggsJust works

Pros: The thing just works. Simple as can be. Nice removable chamber. Small, but it is not intended for major grinding operations, just grinds enough beans for a pot or less.

Cons: I'm new to grinding beans, but I've settled on grinding only enough for one cup at a time, and it seems this grinder has no settings for less than 4 cups. I get around that by setting its grinding option to 'coarse'. This way, two scoops of beans grind out medium to medium-fine.

Other Thoughts: Clean it when you feel like it, not everytime like it suggests.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's just "OK"

Pros: It grinds coffee.

Cons: It's not a burr grinder... it's a blade grinder/blender.

It's a tad under-powered -- the motor slows down if you have a very full load of beans in it.

With a full load of beans in it, you have to grind-shake-grind-shake... etc in order to grind all the beans.

It's also a bother to have to hold the momentary power-on pushbutton while grinding coffee. Pushing down hard enough to operate the power switch causes my countertop to act as a sounding board (making it louder than it needs to be. This is a minor annoyance, overcome by placing a folded towel under the unit.

Other Thoughts: The buttons on the front appear to change only the amount of time it will grind (while you hold the power on). This makes it only slightly Rube Goldberg-ish. Black & Decker should stick to making power tools.
