2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable product

Pros: Low price with lots of advertised capabilities, cool look.

Cons: We purchased 2 routers, one set for awhile. First one worked well, however very slow when logged into the router administration. Second one unable to update firmware

Other Thoughts: Contacted TrendNet regarding second router and received complete run around. I was lied to twice - they do not have 24 hr support as advertised. If after hours, you will be told all techs are busy and they will call you within an hour. NO CALL EVER COMES. When you call in during business hours, no case number, ticket info - tech did not have any info stating a return call was scheduled. Unable to speak to supervisor. Unable to receive case number or employee number, no complaint lines. VERY POOR SUPPORT. I would suggest staying away from trendnet.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry to hear about your experiences with our support line. Please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone help you as soon as possible. We would very much like to address the issues you have to prevent them from occurring again. Please include your contact information and a link to this review.

2 out of 5 eggsLet down

Pros: Price.

Cons: Poor range. 2 radios but neither makes it as far as the older Belkin 300 I was hoping to replace. Took several tries to get it setup and working with both radios working. Prior Trendnet routers have performed much better. This one will be resold.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Deep,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the router. Make sure the router has the latest firmware updates installed. The latest firmware updates are located on our website here.

http://www.trendnet.com/support/supportdetail.asp?prod=220_TEW-692GR

After the firmware update you need to perform a factory reset to finalize the update process. Locate the reset button on the side of the unit then press and hold it in for 15 seconds.

Try changing the channel in use to see if you receive a more stable connection on a different channel. Please also check the placement of your wireless devices. Try to mount them as high as possible and avoid enclosing them in any type of shelving. The more free space around the wireless devices the better.

Please make sure that you are using WPA2 AES standards for encryption for 802.11n performance and do not disable the SSID broadcast on the unit.

Regards,

Adrian

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely horrible reliability so far

Pros: It looks nice, and the description makes it sound like a solid piece of equipment. I've had pretty good experiences in the past with Trendnet so I jumped on the deal.

Cons: It doesn't work. 2.4 and 5 bands constantly drop connection. I'm in the same room 10-15 ft. away with no obstructions.

WIRED is completely unreliable! I'm getting an insane amount of disconnections and a ton of packet loss.

And for the BIGGEST lie of all, this does not have any DD-WRT firmware or working openWRT firmware. This was one of the reasons I decided to go for it knowing I could flash it over. It is all over the documentation that it is supported but that isn't reality.

Also, the advanced features are very limited, I was really hoping for port range triggering to help support multiple Xboxes. Since you can't actually get DD-WRT there is no work around.

Other Thoughts: The product description is a flat out lie with DD-WRT.

The device simply does not work with any level of reliability on wired or wireless connections. I literally cannot believe how bad it is. Absolutely, positively, do not purchase this product!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Evan,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the TEW-692GR. The latest firmware update for the unit can be found on our website under the support section. While we do have routers with DD-WRT support, unfortunately, the TEW-692GR is not one of them. It appears NewEgg has some incorrect information on their site regarding this model and we will contact them immediately to have them fix this.

2 out of 5 eggsNot stable at all

Pros: Slick design, great price, easy setup

Cons: 2.4GHz band crashed constantly, wifi coverage range small or weak signal

Other Thoughts: setup is extremely easy, when connecting 2 devices (one wifi and one through ethernet) to run speedtest.net simutanesly, the 2.4Ghz band wifi crashed. Need to reboot the router. Very unstable. 5GHz is good, no crash. I then only connected several devices, xbox, tablet, cell phone and pc, It crashes the 2.4GHz band again. It is basically not usable so I have to return it. I gave 2 stars for the Pros.

1 out of 5 eggsWireless died, not cool

Pros: It has 4 gigabit Ethernet ports and is suppose to be 450 mbs wireless. The interface is easy to use and intuitive, navigation of settings is fast and the router is responsive. Stays cool unlike my old Cisco wireless router/modem.

Cons: I have had this router for 5 months and the 2.4GHz band has just stopped working. The 5 GHz band has always been hit or miss but I only have 2 devices that can read it so it was never a big deal. I cannot for the life of me get the 2.4GHz range back on and running, it is now useless as a wireless device. I will update if I can get anywhere with TRENDnet on a replacement or get a different device.

Other Thoughts: This is my 5th TRENDnet device and I have always had a good experience with them. It has been really disappointing to see how bad this device is.

3 out of 5 eggsAverage product, good value

Pros: Extremely fast, consistent connection speeds. Gigabit ports are a major plus.

Cons: Lower signal strength than expected. Does not reach all parts of my house like prior "budget" D-Link. I'm leery of the reliability based on the reviews I've read.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks well when it works

Pros: This router was easy to set up the web interface was easy to understand and navigate. The speeds is much better that my old Linksys WRT-110.

Cons: I am having a continuous problem with short network interruptions. The usually only last a few seconds at the most but sometimes they last long enough that I have to power cycle the router and my cable modem. These are occurring several times an hour and occassionally kick one of the computers off the network. I updated the firmware and their was a definite improvement, mainly in how often I had to do a power cycle. Even after the firmware update I am still encountering this problem. The 5 GHz band does seem to have fewer problems than the 2.4 GHz band although not all of the devices in my house can access it.

Other Thoughts: My family has several laptops as well as a blue-ray player that can stream video and I was hoping on getting a relatively cheap router that would support several devices but this router is not meeting that goal.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Price
Features
Ease of setup

Cons: Speed
Range

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a older D-Link 150Mbps router. I was expecting better download speed and a stronger signal, this provided neither. I did a site survey and speed test of my old router before installing the new for comparison. I did the same survey and speed test with the new one and the range wasn't as good as the old and the speed test was 1/3 that of my old one.

I found these results to be hard to believe so I did a factory reset and set the router up again. No difference. I am going to return this and try another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsLast TredNet device I will ever purchase

Pros: Looks nice, can always be used a 4 port gigabit switch.

Cons: Pretty much doesn't work as a wireless device.

Other Thoughts: I got this to replace an older TredNet I was using as a wireless access point. That one worked for a few years but recently the 5 ghz band disappeared. I should have used that as a warning sign. I picked this one up because it went on sale for $35. Big mistake. Initially it worked well for about 10 minutes. I got some pretty nice benchmarks, but eventually the 2.4ghz stopped broadcasting. I tried the latest firmware update but it didn't help. Unplugging it and plugging it back in works for a few minutes, but it's pretty much unusable. The 5ghz band seems to be better, but that's disappeared a couple times too and the range is dreadful. I thought maybe I would have less issues since I am using it as an access point only, but I am having the same problems as everyone else. But hey, a gigabit switch costs about $35 doesn't it?
