5 out of 5 eggsWish the Antennas could be removed

Pros: -Dual band
-Fast
-Can handle large bandwidth transmissions
-Pretty easy to use interface
-Lots of options
-Reasonably strong range (can travel full bars through multiple old style slat/plaster walls, covering roughly 40ft radius)

Cons: -Does not have option to install DD-WRT
-Cannot remove Antennas+
-Antennas protruding are ONLY 5GHz range. The 2 internal radios broadcast the 2.4 GHz range. So adjusting the antennae will not improve the signal to the 2.4 GHz network signal.
-Can display inaccurate info about the active WiFi connections, although it is still close enough to determine connection issues

Other Thoughts: I have owned this router for years now, and it runs 24/7 as the primary router in my home network. It handles DHCP great, as well as following the reservation lists and other parameters set. I also like the Virtual Server option, where you can direct a routing table of forwarded ports to easily implement multiple systems, reachable through DDNS. Makes things very simple compared to messing with regular port forwarding, which is also has the option of.

As for the internal network performance, I have had no issues and I run a security camera network with attached storage w/o bandwidth issues. This router truly handles a lot of processing. It is not the fastest router, but it is highly stable and runs strong. Speeds have not been a problem for me.

The only issue I ran into has been that this setup is RALink radios mixed with an Atheros-based switch in the rear. Seeing this at first (through a wired connection), I thought it was completely Atheros-based, and purchased additional routers that were Atheros-based to match. When I found they did not match, I already had DD-WRT installed on the other routers. So I was forced to consider other configuration options to utilize this router as the primary, and the others as repeaters. I thought I would mention this in case anyone else had considered this router for use in the same or similar environment.

I did not pay $100 for this router, but I do not recall my exact price and did not look prior to this feedback and update. For the price (under 100) it was worth it. But as I said, I did not like the idea that the 3 external antennas are non-removable and ONLY 5GHz. I'm not sure how this makes the I/O (1x2, 3x3 on one band, 2x1 on the other, etc.), but I do know that it is a dependable router (in my case). I can easily stream HD videos and security camera streams concurrently w/o problem. I simply wish I could install DD-WRT and establish tunneling between ALL the routers. Maybe they will figure it out soon and release a copy.

3 out of 5 eggsHopefully other TRENDnet Products are better

Pros: When it was working, it was sufficient..

Cons: I bought this just over a year ago and after a year of inconsistency it has finally died. It no longer works in any aspect. Even plugging directly into it does not work. The only thing it does is power on. When it was working it was very inconsistent signal strength and struggled immensely with even the smallest distances. Don't bother trying to connect through a wall. I have decided to give TRENDnet a second chance and not let one bad experience ruin my outlook on the company. I will be moving on to one of the newer TRENDnet products, which is highly regarded, in hopes of a better experience.

1 out of 5 eggsRouter Stopped Working, NO DHCP

Pros: OK

Cons: Note: The product has advertisement as 3-years limited warranty.

I came to know from the TRENDnet customer service recent trouble with the router issue, i.e., I am not able to get to Internet when I connect my computer via this router (or Limited connection message with NO internet access).

Support ticket was raised, but response is not satisfied. Here are the responses,

1) The router itself has a 1 year warranty.
2) The free support for Trendnet products is only valid for up to one year past the devices discontinue date. The router that you have was discontinued on 2/21/2014, which indicates the free support for the unit ended in February of 2015.

Question: Similar to any purchase, I thought I have support and valid for 1 year (NOT expecting 3 year warranty though advertised) from the date of MY purchase NOT TRENDnet discontinues the product.

So please pay attention when you buy a product (thinking like me) and when there is a issue, you will not get voice support (with in the warranty period)

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect match with Xfinity internet service

Pros: 1. Easy to install
2. Strong wireless signal
3. proper range

Cons: Not yet found (2+ weeks usage)

Other Thoughts: I replaced my old Airlink router (680 series) with this unit and it showed significantly superior performance over the old unit. Xfinity giganet internet service became fully functional. Wireless signal became stronger and the video streaming is OK. Simultaneously, I tested 4 wireless devices (two laptops, a tablet, and a smartphone) and all showed proper wireless signals.
The installation to Win 8.1 system took only 10 minutes with security encrypt.
The only concern is durability since many customers left bad reviews about its durability.

1 out of 5 eggsStopped working

Pros: On sale. Worked for 1 week.

Cons: Hooked it up and all was working fine for 1 week. Then, it stopped working and I haven't ever been able to get it going again. Tried resetting several times, but it's dead.

Other Thoughts: Not very impressed. I am trying to return it, but I should have done that right away. Warranty says 3 years, so I will see if they honor it 2 years later.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsNothing but trouble from the beginning

Pros: The price seemed good.

Cons: This product had been nothing but trouble from the beginning I have not been able to get this properly configured on the 5 GHz let alone the 2Ghz signal. I do not know what it is about this device but by default it blocks all gaming sites wired and wireless. I am not a big complainer but this was not a very good product please get better documentation for this product and be weary that the features do not work properly. I took this to school one day to see if I could help out my current classroom with a reliable wireless router for a a while and this particular device would shut down any Ethernet port it was plugged into. I tried to doubt the integrity of the product by trying it again at home after a few months this is when I ran into the allotted blocking of gaming sites by default. I now have a 50$ paper weight that will not be used.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the TEW-692GR. What you have described is not normal operation for the router. If you have not done so we would recommend that you update the router with the latest firmware update, reset it to factory defaults and then reconfigure it. If you continue to experience the same issues please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone assist you as soon as possible.

2 out of 5 eggsTrendnet TEW-692GR Really Sucks!

Pros: 2.4 GHz band stays on longer than the 5 GHz one. Looks good with the 3-antennae.

Cons: 5 GHz band is too unstable, rendering it useless. Light color makes no sense. Can't rely on the lights to monitor the health. They stay on whether the router is up or not. Lights too bright & wide

Other Thoughts: Bought this router (TEW-692GR) to replace an old Linksys one thinking that I was upgrading from G to N. My old G-Linksys never had to be re-booted, it just worked, period.

But this Trendnet router really sucks, it loses connection on the 5GHz band too often, sometimes several times within an hour! Basically, I have abandoned the 5GHz band altogether. The 2.4GHz band is more stable and by stability, I mean that the router could be up for a day or so; then it has to be re-booted. Re-booting once doesn’t always work, sometimes twice while waiting more than 30 seconds between re-starting. Sometimes, I have to do this more than once in a day. I have updated the firmware to no avail.

Thinking of moving to the newer AC routers but then I read similar reviews about the 5GHz band. General questions to the IEEE folks: (1) Could it be some sort of interference between the bands? (2) Why only occasionally?

Even when the TEW-692GR works, the signal strength is not all that great. Wished that there were a way to completely disable the 5GHz band (haven't researched the possibility, just thinking out loud!).

Manufacturer Response:

Hello A.Mak,

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with the TEW-692GR. Please ensure you performed a factory reset on the router after the firmware update and reconfigure it. Try using different channels on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio. Make sure you do not disable the SSID broadcast as it could cause connectivity issues. Make sure the router is not placed near anything that would cause radio frequency as well. If you continue to experience issues please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone help you as soon as possible. Please include a link to this review.

2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable product

Pros: Low price with lots of advertised capabilities, cool look.

Cons: We purchased 2 routers, one set for awhile. First one worked well, however very slow when logged into the router administration. Second one unable to update firmware

Other Thoughts: Contacted TrendNet regarding second router and received complete run around. I was lied to twice - they do not have 24 hr support as advertised. If after hours, you will be told all techs are busy and they will call you within an hour. NO CALL EVER COMES. When you call in during business hours, no case number, ticket info - tech did not have any info stating a return call was scheduled. Unable to speak to supervisor. Unable to receive case number or employee number, no complaint lines. VERY POOR SUPPORT. I would suggest staying away from trendnet.

2 out of 5 eggsLet down

Pros: Price.

Cons: Poor range. 2 radios but neither makes it as far as the older Belkin 300 I was hoping to replace. Took several tries to get it setup and working with both radios working. Prior Trendnet routers have performed much better. This one will be resold.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Deep,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the router. Make sure the router has the latest firmware updates installed. The latest firmware updates are located on our website here.

http://www.trendnet.com/support/supportdetail.asp?prod=220_TEW-692GR

After the firmware update you need to perform a factory reset to finalize the update process. Locate the reset button on the side of the unit then press and hold it in for 15 seconds.

Try changing the channel in use to see if you receive a more stable connection on a different channel. Please also check the placement of your wireless devices. Try to mount them as high as possible and avoid enclosing them in any type of shelving. The more free space around the wireless devices the better.

Please make sure that you are using WPA2 AES standards for encryption for 802.11n performance and do not disable the SSID broadcast on the unit.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely horrible reliability so far

Pros: It looks nice, and the description makes it sound like a solid piece of equipment. I've had pretty good experiences in the past with Trendnet so I jumped on the deal.

Cons: It doesn't work. 2.4 and 5 bands constantly drop connection. I'm in the same room 10-15 ft. away with no obstructions.

WIRED is completely unreliable! I'm getting an insane amount of disconnections and a ton of packet loss.

And for the BIGGEST lie of all, this does not have any DD-WRT firmware or working openWRT firmware. This was one of the reasons I decided to go for it knowing I could flash it over. It is all over the documentation that it is supported but that isn't reality.

Also, the advanced features are very limited, I was really hoping for port range triggering to help support multiple Xboxes. Since you can't actually get DD-WRT there is no work around.

Other Thoughts: The product description is a flat out lie with DD-WRT.

The device simply does not work with any level of reliability on wired or wireless connections. I literally cannot believe how bad it is. Absolutely, positively, do not purchase this product!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Evan,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the TEW-692GR. The latest firmware update for the unit can be found on our website under the support section. While we do have routers with DD-WRT support, unfortunately, the TEW-692GR is not one of them. It appears NewEgg has some incorrect information on their site regarding this model and we will contact them immediately to have them fix this.
