1 out of 5 eggsBE WARY OF NETGEAR

Pros: Router Works Perfectly. No Problems at all.

Cons: But the Problem is that NETGEAR has Programed and LOCKED the USERNAME OF THE ROUTER TO ONE WORD. That word is "" ADMIN "" That in itself makes it easier for HACKERS to get into the Router. They only have to break half of the Security for there routers.

Other Thoughts: I will Never Buy another Thing from NETGEAR if they are going to help HACKERS.

2 out of 5 eggsNot for networking

Pros: This is/was a good little router for the money when purchased. Broadcast singal is strong and will work ok (not great) but, ok for a little home setup. It was a small foot print.

Cons: As my network grows this router becomes more unstable. Like others have stated, you have to power cycle it to get the router to reboot. I have 4 computers, 2 additional switches, 1 network printer and 4 other devices that rely on this router to issue an IP address. After I added a freenas server (BSD OS) this router has become MORE unstable. It's dropping off weekly and has to be rebooted.

Other Thoughts: I don't recommend for someone how is actualy building a network. I should be fine if you just using 1 laptop or something simple. I would not pay more than $25-$30 for this router.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: I have had this router for about a year and a half and have not had any problems with it ever. It gets great signal; I get signal across the street in my neighbors house on my laptop. Has an option to check for firmware updates in the control panel. Easy to service.

Cons: The User Interface in the control panel is different from most routers and slow but nothing serious.

Other Thoughts: Overall great router. Netgear has a good line of networking products.

I have four servers hooked into the four ports and 7 PCs on WiFi.

2 out of 5 eggsWent out faster than an XBOX 360

Pros: It worked okay for the 6 months I had it.

Cons: Then I started to have problems: As many have stated here, numerous dropped signals. In fact, the wireless signal on this router is *much* more susceptible to EMI than, say, Linksys' WRT54G, which IMO is a staple for consumer-brand routers. Past few days I've been getting a 10% dropped packet ratio, and I narrowed it down to the router after connecting my computer directly to the cable modem. I tried to upgrade the firmware but the clunky upgrade process made me tear my hair out, and Googling the solution indicated to me that traditional means of upgrading was not doable. Also the GUI page takes a VERY LONG TIME TO LOAD. Linksys' WRT54G's page takes less than a couple seconds.

Definitely not going with these routers ever again. Additional research indicates that their 6XX series lines are known to have bad power supplies and overheat.

Other Thoughts: If you pay any more than $30 for this thing, you're being ripped off.

1 out of 5 eggssame as everyone says power cycle.. powercycle.. powercycle.

Pros: For how old it is, it has lasted a very long time. I've taken this router through atleast 5 different household moves. It DOES work, however, the more machines it has connected to it, the more it tends to frequently lose signal (requiring power to be unplugged and replugged in).

Cons: Since ive gotten it i've had the same problem as every other person has with the intermittant net signal cutting on and off. When this happens you have to manually unplug it and plug it back in. After several years of ownership I find myself looking for a replacement simply because I've finally gotten tired of constantly resetting the router.

Other Thoughts: Atleast it's still functional for how old it is.. sort of.

2 out of 5 eggsLess than Average

Pros: Good looking

Cons: I purchased this item Sep 2007. It drops signal sometime, so I have to unplug it a lot. Also if three or more devices are connected, it loses signal very often.
I got an replacement just before the 1 year warranty ended because it finally broke. However, my experience with the customer service was bad because I had to pay
around $30 for replacement shipping and I had to talk to a nasty representative for 3 hours to get replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible router

Pros: I bought this router about 2-3 years ago from Best Buy. Although it has worked for the most part during this time, there have been some difficulties. The bad outweigh the good in this case as a routher should be a device that requires very little maintenance or user interaction to get the device to work properly. See cons below...

Cons: Requires power cycling to regain connection, sometimes several times per hour. The software that came with the Netgear wireless card I bought was poorly developed at best. It would often just stop running, and I would have to manually kill the process for the wireless program, then restart it and power cycle the router/modem. About a year after buying the router, it simply stopped working altogether. The wireless light would just sit there and flash. I sent it back to Netgear and they sent me a new one. Again, about a year later the wireless functionality stopped working, but it still worked when I was hardwired to the router. I ended up sitting it aside for several months, and when I hooked it up again, the wireless functionality was back. And today.....it stopped working again. Wireless button keeps flashing, laptop won't connect wirelessly......never will I choose Netgear again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: Easy set up! Fast 54Mbps every day! Strong Signal! One solid router!

Cons: Absolutely none!

Other Thoughts: This router has worked flawlessly since Nov 2007. The router is located in the basement away from any metal and electrical wiring. My Dell Latitude D830 laptop operates mostly in our living room and the signal from Netgear is always steady and strong. Downloading music has been a dream with steady streaming of video. My work IT person suggested Netgear and he was right!

1 out of 5 eggsNetgear's Failure

Pros: Absolutely NONE!

Cons: 365 days after installation, the wireless malfunctioned. Netgear had me download a new system to the router and then the Mac G-4 could not be connected even after repeated "suggestions" by Netgear. If you want a reliable wireless router, do not buy Netgear!

Pros: could not find one.

Cons: power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle - power cycle -

you like power cycling your router 1-1000 times a day? if you do then buy this router!

Other Thoughts: do yourself a favor and search newegg for the router with the most reviews and highest rating. that one is most likely the best one. never shall i buy a netgear router again!
