5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speakers!

Pros: I recently bought these to replace some old JBL speakers that blew out on me. I am very impressed by the CB-5's as they really can go loud and without any distortion. The high's are clear and natural. It brought my home theater to life! If i have extra money to spend, i would definitely buy Energy's other speakers to replace my existing ones. Highly recommended!

Cons: maybe a bigger driver? Regardless, i shouldn't be complaining because they are in fact bookshelf speakers so its expected that they are smaller.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Sound Little Box

Pros: Great sound from a compact speaker. Originally purchased to use as height speakers but the sound was so nice i decided to use them as mains and move the polk mains from my office setup to height. I have never used energy before but these are truly a great buy at $79 for a pair.

Cons: none so far.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good for the price

Pros: Surprisingly good sound from a relatively small speaker even though they are not fully broken in yet. Overall sound is surprisingly well balanced at this price point. Not a high end speaker, but easy to listen to. Nothing especially noteworthy about the sound, which is good. High frequencies appear to be clean, midrange is clear, and bass tight and clean although without great extension. In my opinion, this is much preferable to an artificial, thumpy or one-note bass character sometimes heard from speakers trying to sound bigger than they really are. Overall, surprisingly listenable and not fatiguing.

Cons: No port inserts in package, although these would usually be used to attenuate excess bass which is not a problem with these speakers. Relative to the Energy Web site downloads, the owners manual did not appear to be complete - just a wiring diagram with warranty information on back. No big deal, but the full manual notes the need for break in, mentions that they are magnetically shielded, etc.

Other Thoughts: Planning to use these for computer/satellite radio/iPod sources driven by a small "T Class" amplifier as an alternative to conventional computer speakers. These are far, far, superior to Logitech 2.1 Z523's, which I listened to for about 3 minutes before repacking and returning. By comparison, these are a lot less thumpy sounding and much clearer and less colored. Was extremely disappointed in the Logitech's despite many good reviews - they had a pronounced "cupped hands" coloration and the satellites sounded very poorly matched to the woofer unit. The Energy CB5's are a dream by comparison but will likely be less loud, which is OK for me.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: been enjoying these for 2 days now. they're a great compromise between full-size bookself speakers and those tiny Bose/Mirage speakers that have no midrange. paid $80/pair but would have paid double for sure.

Cons: the front grills attach in a not-so-great way, but I'm sure they'll be fine if I don't mess with them too much.

Other Thoughts: 4.5" woofers for $80 is awesome.

5 out of 5 eggsSound much bigger than they look!

Pros: Good full-range sound for such a small speaker. Crisp, clean highs without being too bright and the mids and lows are well balanced. They also look great and the size makes them very unobtrusive.

Cons: The lows can get a little muddy at higher volumes, however I'm pretty sure that it is just the older receiver that I have them hooked up to (hard to configure without the manual that I can't find, and it is intended to be a 5.1 receiver, but I'm trying to run it as a 2.0 bedroom stereo system). This is also not a con if you intend to use these fantastic little speakers as rear surrounds, which is why I'm not docking the rating for this.

Other Thoughts: As I mentioned, I'm using a pair of these as a 2.0 system on an older 5.1 Pioneer receiver that pushes 100 watts/channel. They produce great sound that fills my master bedroom. Once I broke in the speakers the bass was less muddy at the higher volumes and after I figured out the settings on the receiver, they sounded even better.
