5 out of 5 eggs3 yrs and still going

Pros: -Fast
-fairly big (especially when I got it in 2004)
-pretty quiet (motor/bearing noise is almost zilch)

Cons: -the read head can be noisy if you don't enable acoustic management. Identified by a frequent clicking sound. This is the read head loading and unloading.

Other Thoughts: This drive has been running with nary an issue for 3 years now. I bought it when they first showed up on the market. It was so much faster than the 4200 RPM that it replaced! I can't stand a notebook with less than a 7200 RPM drive.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Drive

Pros: This drive is fast, swapped out my OEM dell drive in my Insprion 6000 and it was almost like a new computer.

Cons: This drive is louder then the HDD that came with the laptop, but the improvements are worth it.

Other Thoughts: Not sure how this drive affects battery life but I didn't notice a difference.

2 out of 5 eggsGood performer / Bad reliability

Pros: Fast, quiet, no problems with installation.

Cons: Heat issues in my Dell Inspiron 5150. Always ran around 130-140 F. Same drive failed twice within a year. Replaced with a Seagate Momentus 7200, now runs in the 110-125 range.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Good speed for a laptop drive, very quiet performance. Love the reduced power consumption, and small 9.5mm profile.

Cons: Even taking into account the inherently higher prices for laptop drives, it's still a bit more expensive than others. But you get what you pay for, after all. No issues with the actual hardware.

Other Thoughts: Hitachi's line of low-power Travelstar 2.5" drives is a terrific choice, whether for an upgrade to a laptop, use as external storage, or for just about any application for that size drive.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Can't say. Couldn't use it.

Cons: DOA. Loaded with bad sectors. Will go again with newegg though. Their service is excellent.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, reliable, cooler and quiet

Pros: Cool hdd, fast access times, quiet and so far fairly reliable.

Cons: Nothing found yet, but it may drain more battery power.

Other Thoughts: This drive is cooler, has faster access times and is quieter than my Fujitsu 5400 rpm 40 GB hdd.

I am not sure about the power consumption, but I assume this hdd will consume more power than my 5400 hdd. It does not really matter since I always plug my laptop to a power source as the battery is not that great on its own.

Definitely worth the upgrade, my laptop boots up and my applications run a LOT faster.

5 out of 5 eggsWorthwhile upgrade

Pros: Fast and quiet. The Hitachi Feature Tool (available from the support website) makes for a very flexible install - (I needed to use it to change the max transfer rate to 33MB/s (Ultra DMA mode 2) in order for it to work properly on my old 440BX laptop (Gateway Solo 9300). Amazed at the difference in speed from my old 6GB, 4200rpm, 512KB cache drive.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Hitachi Feature Tool does not provide any disk cloning capability, so if you need to clone your old disk, you will need to use Ghost or Acronis True Image (I highly recommended the latter).

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent drive . . . installed in a breeze

Pros: surprising how much this speeded up my laptop.

Cons: runs a bit warm. but its a small price to pay.

Other Thoughts: i bought this instead of the cheaper model for its power management. installed it with acronis tru image by cloning my hard drive, then cloning the backup. took about an hour. nice how the hard drive comes out of the ibm t41. excellent engineering.
