1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Acceptable wired functionality

Cons: - Shoddy wireless, works for 2-4 hours at most on several different wireless routers.
- For dynamic DNS, Linksys made the decision to only allow a paid service that they associate with. Firmware versions previous to the shipping version allowed use with free services... shameful.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's just OK

Pros: It works. On line tech support OK

Cons: Instructions very vague. Digital zoom useless.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. I yet to get internet access to camera.

4 out of 5 eggsGood bang for the buck

Pros: Low cost, lots of features. Camera seems stable. After about a week of use the camera has not locked up once.

Cons: Documentation is poor. Finally found a web site that contained the information that made sense. Since I am on a Mac the enclosed software was of no use.

Other Thoughts: The camera is transmitting through a brick wall to a Linksys WRT54GS that is about 50 feet away. I run a pfSense firewall and was easily able to port forward to the camera and set up a DynDNS account to point to the camera from the internet.

Some people have complained about the image quality. It's a 640x480 CMOS sensor, so be real. It's not an HD camera. To monitor an area via the net wirelessly for under a $100 this is a good deal.

I knocked off a star for the bad documentation.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: I liked the interface of the camera from Linksys. Setup was relatively simple, I didn't even need the setup sofware. Port forwarding from my router worked like a charm.

Cons: No Cons, only that it doesn't perform well under low light. The other bummer about it is that it doesn't have night vision. Which in a house i think if you are looking for a camera you should get it with IR. The only other con I can think of is that I needed a FTP server to save the pictures. Unless there was something I missed in the setup software. I would have preferred to have a option to send it to a windows share.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely get a wifi camera with night vision. This is really where I want to use a wifi camera for about 50% of the time.

2 out of 5 eggsSave yourself the headache

Pros: Doesn't require router DDNS support
Compact
Microphone
Decent PC software

Cons: Tricky setup
TZO service costs money after trial period
VERY FLAKY ADMINISTRATION
Weak connectivity

Other Thoughts: After struggling to get this connected to my wireless network, I set up the DDNS service through TZO. All was well until people I had established accounts for would email me telling me that it wouldn't let them log in.

I discovered that the camera "forgets" user passwords at random intervals and requires me to re-enter them.

This was a waste of my time and money. Spend yours on something else.

3 out of 5 eggsAudio doesn't work on Firefox

Pros: Great camera - good price

Cons: Most importantly, please be aware that you will *not* get audio on Firefox, due to the use of Microsoft's active X controls. This made the camera less than ideal for monitoring from a Mac for me. Totally bummed.

3 out of 5 eggsFirst internet camera i bought

Pros: Well it is the cheapest wireless camera out there. Software is really good and easy to use.

Cons: image quality is bad. does not work well with low lighting

Other Thoughts: its a glorified baby surveillance, but if you want to be serious about surveillance please consider another camera with better resolution and possibly night vision

4 out of 5 eggsGood Camera

Pros: For the price it can't be beat. I will agree with other reviews, you cannot expect this camera to work right out of the box. A good understanding of networking will be very helpful. I first tried it hardwired and once that worked I configured it wireless with wpa2 security no problem. Also using a free dns service, not the TZO that they give a free trial too...

Cons: Audio behind the router is ok but over the internet it will only work with IE and it's very choppy due to the sampling rate. Don't really need audio anyway...

Other Thoughts: I have set up the camera with a static IP instead od DHCP.
Router is a WRT54GL with DDWRT. Set up static IP associated with camera mac address in services of router. Never loose connection with camera. I will wait for a sale and buy another one of these camera's...
