1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to use, reduces clutter

Cons: Hard to set up, doesn't last

Other Thoughts: After a few months of rather limited use (mostly when we used our Xbox to watch videos or the other remote was lost) this remote died. Sent it in to be serviced and the unit was found to be defective.

Was refunded what I paid minus the warranty fee, even though I had a replacement plan, now the remote costs twice what I paid.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as stated...just not speed

Pros: Cheaper than running cable everywhere
Small form
Reliable

Cons: Lights are so bright being next to my entertainment system

Other Thoughts: Provides reliable connections that still deliver HD streaming through to hubs (one before and one after and I guess again through the wireless), and I haven't had any hiccups when streaming HD through my blu ray player, hd cable box, Tivo, and Wii all running. Definitely purchasing more to put into other rooms like the bedroom and kitchen to stream everywhere without the unreliable Netgear wireless router.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Remote for Price

Pros: Easy setup on the PC. Light weight and slim remote compared to bulkier remotes I've used in the past. Remote lights up when picked up so you don't have to fumble around looking for the button you need. It also will auto correct any problems with your configured settings.

Cons: No batteries were included. It would be nice to have rechargeable batteries include.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible Remote

Pros: This remote is incredible! I received it in the mail less than 30 min ago, and I already have it set up with my TV, A/V Receiver, Cable Box, and Windows Media Center. The software is easy to use, and when you first use the remote after disconnecting it from the computer, it has a little assistant that asks if things worked. If they didn't, say no, and it's been about 4/4 for fixing stuff the first time. I honestly can't think of anyway they could have made it easier.

Cons: Remote is a little larger than I initially thought, but that isn't anything serious.

2 out of 5 eggsRefurb - Some Buttons Not "OK"

Pros: Backlight feature and general feel

Cons: All buttons (OK) didn't work

Other Thoughts: Overall I like the look/feel of this remote. It's replacing a Harmony 550 and the Logitech software just allowed me to "replace" the other remote and programmed the new one successfully. I have a TV, receiver, AppleTV, PS3 infrared bluetooth transmitter, and satellite box. Once programmed, all worked well except probably the most useful button (the "OK" or "Select" button). I was able to program an additional button in the screen area for "Select" to test the remote out a bit, but this is awkward and not acceptable. RMA is on it's way!

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Nice orange button backlight
Nice button layout and feel.
Lightweight.

Extended warranty available.

Cons: Died 89 days after purchase.
Feels cheap.
Poor signal.
Compared to the Harmony 880, the signal strength on this is horrible. Our devices dont receive a signal unless there's a clear & direct path. When my wife is reclining watching tv, this means moving the wood coffee table or lifting the remote over her head to use it. With the 880, if I was testing the buttons in another room, it would transmit to the entertainment center. The coffee table certainly wasn't a problem.
The well documented problem of not turning everything off correctly is a constant headache with the 650.
It recently began to act up - restarting itself randomly and not turning everything off or switching components correctly. Putting in fresh batteries and a piece of cardboard to hold them in didnt help. It gave up the ghost last night and rebooted into 'safe mode' with a bunch of code on the screen. After removing the batteries and replacing, it restarts whenever any button at the top is pushed, making it useless.

Luckily I bought the extended warranty from NewEgg - I'll be using the Logitech one for now but I foresee a lot of returns on this remote in the future and will certainly be using the extended ... if I keep using it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my Harmony 880 which worked like a champ for years. The buttons became unreliable over time due to drops, spills and kid roughness. After opening it up and fixing the buttons several times the family pushed me to buy a new one. The 650 was cheap (refurb) and although it has fewer features seemed to do what we needed. Having gone through the Logitech software Initiation/learning curve for the 880, setup was easy enough and actually provided a couple of buttons we didnt have before.

A week ago my 6 year old son got frustrated with it (yes, he can use it as well as I can...when it's working) and said to me "dad, i wish we could use the old pointer remote, this one is no good. Maybe you could try to fix the old one?"
Looks like I'll be pulling it out this weekend and seeing what I can do to revive it. The problem with it is that the contacts have been pushed down on so many times that they now take a lot more pressure from the keys on top. The silicone between the buttons and contacts has also compressed down. This sometimes causes the contact to get stuck being pushed so hard and fires repeatedly - when it's the volume button it blasts the radio to full volume and requires running to the receiver to silence it. A few spacers between the silicone and contact worked for awhile, but kept slipping out. Time to play McGyver and find a better solution.
I wish now I had bought a used 880 somewhere for about the same price as this 650 refurb, even if it was just to use as parts to fix ours. This 650 will only see a fraction as many button pushes as the 880.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well but may need a firmware update

Pros: I had this for 6 months and all was well when the remote started resetting itself when it was even jiggled even slightly.

I wrote the Logitech help desk and they told me to upgrade my firmware. This is the instructions:

Kindly follow the steps below to set your Harmony Remote into Safe Mode:
1. Remove the batteries from your remote.
2. Wait for 10 seconds to drain the remaining power in the remote.
3. Press and hold the power button while putting the batteries back in the remote.
4. The remote’s screen should now say “Safe Mode”, or the buttons should be flashing. You may now release the power button.

Here are the steps to update your firmware:
1. Launch the Harmony Remote Software and log-in to your account.
2. Click the “Downloads” button that’s at the top-right corner of your screen.
3. Click on the “Firmware” button then follow the onscreen instructions to upgrade the firmware of your remote.
4. Once the firmware upgrade is successful, select “Yes” to complete the

Cons: If there was an issue, maybe logitech should have sent an email to the registered users telling them that upgrading firmware will solve potential issues.

Ran of space in the pro section because of the instructions. Want to say that since the firmware upgrade, the remote is performing flawlessly.

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Does a lot for the price - it's almost embarrassing considering how few of the features I take advantage of.

Easy to switch between cable TV, my desktop, and the VGA input on my TV for my laptop. 1 button press for cable, 2 for VGA/DVI, syncs the TV and receiver to the right inputs.

Cons: A few scuff marks

Somehow "forgot" that I already did the built in tutorial, so I had to run through it again. Only happened once though.

Other Thoughts: Use it to control an older Samsung TV and HK reciever.
