2 out of 5 eggsfor a prototype is OK

Pros: Good 5GHz speed, stylish design

Cons: Slow 2.4GHz and NAS; firmware bugs and "features"

Other Thoughts: It is a router with a potential, but it is still in prototype stage - one could wonder what it does on the market. Ending up as a beta tester instead of end user is frustrating, given one has paid full retail price for mature product and has been looking for a mature product.

Be noted that it can stream smoothly HD(720p), but not the full HD(1080p@30) from your phone/camcorder if you think to buy it for that, while using the (supposed to be fast) NAS feature.

Aside from having USB for NAS, I see no other real world improvements over N300 budget version which it has replaced.

If Netgear couldn't fix it in an year trough the firmware updates - that unfortunately means sub-optimal hardware ...

Well, good effort Netgear, but not quite there, carry on

3 out of 5 eggshorrible 2.4ghz spectrum

Pros: 4 Vlan's (1 per spectrum 2.4-5ghz) and the same for guests.
You can isolate the guests or allow them to communicate to each other. The functionalities are limited (aka i wished i could use proxy on the guest) but overall good.

Cons: 2.4ghz spectrum is... horrible even in AC. the traffic is approx 1m down/upload , is so slow you cant stream content in low resolution accross the network.

Other Thoughts: if you are only looking for 5ghz devices you should be good, otehrwise, skip

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

The problems you're experiencing with the 2.4 GHz band are definitely not normal, and we'd like to investigate. Are you seeing this issue with all devices on the 2.4 GHz band or just certain ones? What type of encryption are you using? Also, have you checked for firmware updates for the R6250? This will ensure the best performance and reliability.

if you are continuing to see issues, please get in touch with us directly at newegg@netgear.com. We'll be happy to assist.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsOne or the other

Pros: High speed, easy to set up

Cons: Having the N signal and the AC signal up at the same time causes me to disconnect from anything that requires constant connection. Youtube videos will stop loading and need to be refreshed even though i never actually lose internet connection. Games will disconnect. I have to either turn off the AC and keep everything connected to N, do the opposite and lose the use of all the devices i have that can't connect to AC, or switch them both on and off whenever i want to change devices.

Other Thoughts: Spent hours on the phone and on chat with support to fix this problem, after nothing worked, i was told to contact the support of the programs i was disconnecting from because the problem wasn't the router. Right netgear, it's not your router, it's literally everything else.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsExtreemly Disappointed

Pros: Good range and speeds so far. Easy basic network/wireless configuration and setup. Had it up and replaced my previous router within minutes.. well almost.

Cons: Unfortunately the device is sold as supporting Live Parental Controls (see newegg overview) but it apparently doesn't. Both the NETGEAR Management Utility and the NETGEAR genie App both report back that this router doesn't support it. I upgraded the router firmware and even downgraded it to older versions. No dice. Both applications report that it's not supported in all cases. Well that's not entirely true, the Genie app says that it can't connect and that the wireless network isn't connected to the internet which is comical since on the main page it says it is connected to the internet and it recognizes when the firmware is out of date.

So now I get to waste my already limited time dealing with a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place. I bought this router with my egg points and a promo code and as a result only paid $50. If I paid advertised price I would be livid as apposed to just ticked off. As it sits I have a really nice Access Point but it's hardly a router worth $199 retail let alone $129.

Other Thoughts: I have other NETGEAR products and they work well so this is disappointing.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Bryan,

The R6250 does support Live Parental Controls - you can refer to page 22 in the user manual for how to set it up:

http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R6250/R6250_UM_15April13.pdf

If you're continuing to have trouble, we want to to work with you directly to get things running as they should, and you can contact us directly at newegg@netgear.com. We look forward to helping out!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Love everything about this router, from parental controls, to port forwarding ( I use a lot of port forwarding). Speeds and coverage are awesome!

Cons: Base could be a little heavier.

Other Thoughts: You can't go wrong with this one!!

5 out of 5 eggsEffortless installation...up and running in 5 minute's.

Pros: The unit runs very cool. Because I was replacing a router in an already configured small home network, all I needed to do was plug it in. It began working even before I did a system reboot. Very noticeable speed difference, especially when using the 5 GHz band. The 3.0 USB port is very simple to use and I have yet to see any of the bug's, or connection dropout's that are being mentioned in other review's. The signal range is impressive to me. Especially using my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. Steady and solid connectivity. No dropout's. If you are reading this and are contemplating Dual Band, this is a safe bet. Lucky for me I grabbed mine from newegg at $129.99. They jumped up to $149.95 for the present time.

Cons: I wish the base was heavier so the router would sit more firmly in place. That is the only change I'd make.

Other Thoughts: I researched and read many review's on many dual band router's. There are a lot of people having trouble's with many different make's and model's. I almost chose not to buy one due to the high number of bad review's on all of the different brand's.
I think Netgear has got thing's under control with this model.

5 out of 5 eggsLong Range, Fast Internet, Solid Design

Pros: The Netgear Genie App on Computer, to control the router, is pretty easy to use and set up the router. Easy button of wifi, wsp, on/off on the side of router and has decent design add to it.
From my Note 3 / AC link speed is around 292 mbps, and from the Macbook Pro it had maximum of 792 mbps so far.

From my Note 3 /AC link speed was around 65 Mbps. The Wireless-N has 5Mbps. . Quiet Dissapointed in 2.4GHz Speed ... (It maybe because I have another 2.4GHz Modem in my room but the channel is different from other Router)

Cons: Low Link speed on 2.4GHz with other router around.

4 out of 5 eggsa pretty good netgear 802.11ac router

Pros: it works with pretty good range. easy to setup and when its running its quick. `

Cons: seems to have trouble with tablets and phone over wifi every now and then. sent one in and second did the same.

Other Thoughts: This is not a huge problem but seems a bit odd. Laptops don't seem to be an issue so i'm stumped. If tablets and phones streamed 100% like my computers I would rate this a 5

2 out of 5 eggsLies, Lies and More Lies

Pros: Great router for speed - if you have 802.11ac devices that is. But that's true for ANY 802.11ac vendor at this point.

Cons: Dual Processor? No.
256MB used? Sorry.
USB3 @10x speed? Meh

So, I paid for an SMP Dual Proc, 256MB, USB3 capable router. Instead the Netgear firmware delivers: Single Proc, 128MB and USB2 speeds(20MB/sec).

Other Thoughts: Netgear needs to come clean with their delivered performance and features not claim false information such as, "The dual-core 800 MHz processor delivers high-performance connectivity, while the USB 3.0 port provides up to 10X faster USB hard drive access."
