5 out of 5 eggsoverall good laptop

Pros: I bought this computer on a recommendation of an IT friend. I was looking for a new laptop for school and this fell with my price range. I really was not wanting a touch screen but for the price, I said why not. It did come with windows 8 but with the touch screen, I'm getting used to it. The laptop is fast enough to handle anything I have thrown at it (pretty much just a lot of internet surfing) but the kids play app games on it and it has no problem at all multi-tasking. The speakers are nice and loud for a laptop and the battery life is excellent. The best feature about the laptop to me is the back lit keyboard. I do a lot of my homework at night after the family goes to sleep and this feature alone bumps my rating up to a 5.

Cons: The only negative I can say about it is the screen has a gloss surface so that combined with the touch screen equals lots of finger prints. The screen cleans very easy though so this is not a big deal to me.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this lap top again and would recommend it to friends. Acer has a winner here.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Everything about this ultrabook is great. Touch screen to specs inside. I use it as a gaming laptop and it handles everything I throw at it. It says the processor is clocked at 1.6 but its dual core is clocked at 2.6 and you wont really notice a drop in performance. All around I love this.

Cons: there is only one con. windows 8 8.1 is ok with the start button but windows 7 is better and that is why I gave it a 4 out of 5. .

Other Thoughts: I found the same ultrabook at Cost co but with 12gb of ram 1tb hdd and an i7 for 599$ and I was bummed but that's not really anything bad I guess

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Boots fast, runs quiet, seems well built for the price point.

Cons: Windows 8 limitations

Other Thoughts: Ordered 'recertified' for $399. Updated OS to 8.1. Acer drivers for 8.1 worked, although I had to install updated Intel ProSet for bluetooth driver a couple times to get it to work. BT is turned off by default. Look in manual. Keyboard lights up by default, no auto dim. Too many screws to get into the case. Was considering adding m-sata SSD because it has compatible slot, but too many issues to consider and Win 8 boots very fast on this laptop anyway. Screen and keyboard seem fine. Once tweaked with classic shell and stomped windows 8 'experience' into suppression as much as humanly possible, it's not a bad lappy for the dough, but you are forced to have MS account to login if you want to use the app store. Used Macrium Reflect free to create boot USB drive and image backup. Overall pleased with the purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: The computer did start up and I was loving the backlit keyboard. One minute later, the screen dimmed and the battery light started to flash. 30 seconds later I lost the power. I'm getting a replacement sent. I'll update review when I receive it.

Cons: Wish the machine would start.

3 out of 5 eggsWonderful, except for one thing...

Pros: Touch screen shinies! The touch screen is beautiful and fluid. The display is also great. The keyboard is easy to use, but the num lock is a little odd (turns off all the time). Backlit keyboard makes it easy to use in the dark.

Cons: Windows 8: everything about windows 8 is just bad. It's clunky and demands that you use a microsoft account in order to get a lot of things done. Did I mention it's clunky? Why do most of the built in apps automatically assume full screen and make it impossible for you to get to the task bar? Why would you do that? There are work-arounds, sure, but when I want to fiddle with settings while looking into something in another window, why do I need to go through extra steps to change the focus?

Sound: The speakers on the device sound incredibly tinny, and don't really deliver a deep sound (Not an issue with a nice set of headphones though!)

Other Thoughts: If this did not have windows 8, it'd probably be a perfect laptop. The speakers are acceptable on a laptop (spoiled by my desktop, I know), but really, the only thing that makes me HATE this device is windows 8. Actually, if it just was possible to do things WITHOUT needing a microsoft account, that would make it almost infinitely better as well. I'm also a bit daft for not realizing it was w8 before buying it, so yes, I'm at fault there.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Great touchscreen
Nice backlit keyboard
Huge trackpad with gestures

Cons: Average screen resolution (but I can barely tell)
No SSD cache
Wouldn't connect to my home router until I updated the Wi-Fi drivers.

Other Thoughts: Only thing I can really mention is the Wi-Fi driver didn't work on my home router until after I updated the driver, but it works flawlessly now.

Battery life is outstanding. I get 6-7+ full hours of streaming music and video, and Web browsing and doing office tasks.

Picked this laptop up refurbished and on sale, can't beat the value!
