As data center professionals across the globe work to meet growing enterprise needs, they face the dilemma of storing more data in the same footprint while also reducing power and HVAC consumption. The new Ultrastar A7K2000 provides twice the data storage capacity of the prior generation Ultrastar A7K1000 drive, and does so using fewer watts. It is now possible to achieve a colossal 1.2 petabytes (PB) in the footprint of a standard 19-inch enterprise storage rack by deploying the 2TB A7K2000 in a stack of ten 4U, 60-bay enclosures.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality Control

5 out of 5 eggsdoes not play nice with elchepo controlers

Pros: Mine is still going strong and error free. used for home media library works with xp

Cons: cost. VIA controllers do not play nice with these cards on old systems like dell 8200 with pci card. Silicon image controllers work better, but stick with Native SATA boards and life will be good otherwise expect really slow write speeds and mediocre seek speeds. Read speed maxes out pci bus.

Other Thoughts: do yourself a favor and put these with a real controller card to get your moneys worth. I went overkill, kind of glad i did, these drives are just rock solid. be sure to invest in online back up system. RAID is not the answer for home storage. A 1-1 back up is better for media at home with unlimited online back up being your best option.

Pros: Got three of this on a Apple xServe, Paid about 500 for each just to get a little apple logo on the sticker. "Special"

They "3" being going strong with no problems. Not a big fan of Hitachi but nothing to complain here.

Cons: Wish i knew apple would ship this ones out so i couple pay half price on newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is what EMC uses in their SATA SANs

Pros: I'll put that out there, I do not own these drives, yet. But just wanted to let you know we just got a shelf of an EMC SATA drives, and these are what they have in them. Take that for what it's worth.

Cons: Don't own them yet.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed Results

Pros: Five year warranty that I hope to not need. Designed for enterprise applications.

Cons: 2 out of 10 are bad drives. 1 was DOA and a second died within two hours. First five installed in a Synology DS1010 are working great Knock on wood! The second array makes me sad.

Other Thoughts: Newegg treats its customers right and is swapping out the bad drives. This is for mission critical content storage and I hope that these stand the test of time
