3 out of 5 eggsGot it for its price

Pros: Got it to replace my main hdd in laptop, mainly for its price and size.

Cons: Got this drive back in 2008, its 2012 now and the drive is having performance issues, I'm afraid it's dying.

Other Thoughts: Used to use laptop 24/7 which is probably why first drive died. This drive was installed and heavy use continued. Drive degradation occured after I removed drive and used it in an external enclosure...

4 out of 5 eggsLasted two years

Pros: Relatively fast. Lasted two years in my travel laptop, which might be a pro. This machine stays on the road 4 days a week on average and sees a little use in jets with a cabin altitude of 6,500 feet.

Cons: Hot and noisy. Got progressively slower for several days (initally thought it was slow wifi, then thought it might be a virus) then died suddenly.

1 out of 5 eggsHitachi Travelstar HD20320

Pros: It CRASHED (during updates) in first Week! :- O

Cons: I found very many unhappy people with same problem. NOT RECOMMENDED !! I was REFUSED to be helpped by Hitachi service due to OEM tag. Hey HITACHI...!!! is that your product are you ashame of your own quality?

Other Thoughts: This is not the 1st experience with Hitachi HDDs. I'm scared to have them in my computers. I'm in IT support and have all technical knowledge, license, and "know-how" to express my opinion form the last 7 years. Not recommended !!! Your choice to run around asking for help or buy another makers of HDDs or accept the frailer sooner or later.

5 out of 5 eggsGood performer

Pros: Fast, dependable. This laptop is used as a server for Magic Jack and posting weather data to the net, so it is on 24x7.
Not noisy or hot for just sitting there on a desk in the kitchen. So we walk by it and work around it all day. I think the fact that is is a lower power dual core AMD w/small screen helps that.

Cons: In your lap you will notice the small vibration and possibly the extra heat.

Other Thoughts: Since I have worked with Hard drives from back in the day when they were the size of washing machines, I exercise a lot of care with movement and probably that helps all my drives lifespan. So your mileage may vary. It always amuses me when I see the way people throw their laptops around like there was no hard drive in them spinning at up to 10k rpm. Buy solid state if you want to treat it like that.

5 out of 5 eggs3+ years and still going

Pros: Fast, quiet and a decent storage capacity size. Been using this drive in my laptop for over 3 years and it has performed flawlessly.

Cons: Gets a little warm i think, but just put a notebook cooler under the laptop and it helps a lot.

Other Thoughts: Need more space now, so i might be going for the 500gb.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Quiet, Very low heat. Used in small 11.6 laptop.

Pros: - Extremely quiet. Thought I'd hear all these "hums" like everyone else. Not the case. Same decibel level as my previous 5400rpm drive.
- Very cool. Also was worried about this, but their ads are right when they say it's power consumption and whatnot are just about on-par with the 5400rpm'ers.
- Noticable difference during startup and shutdown. Shaves a few seconds. Major difference when entering and coming out of sleep mode. Dayum.
- Simply put, it's been flawless. I cloned my last hard drive to this one. The end. :) [Acronis]

Cons: - Newegg's deal for 64GB SSD @ 93 bucks came out 2 weeks later. Oh well. -_-

Other Thoughts: - If you're wondering if it's worth the jump from 5400 rpm, I've gotta tell ya, archiving and unarchiving stuff within Winrar got MUUUUCH quicker. Shaves minutes.
- I've noticed a small jump with transferring files to and from jumpdrives to. It can access and swap spit faster than the 5400rpm drives.

2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Quiet, fast

Cons: Died

Other Thoughts: Came installed in my laptop which I've only owned since February, just died on me. It was a good run, but I would not recommend it - go with WD.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent quality for the price!!!

Pros: Good price! A total 180 from the old Toshiba 5400 rpm drive that it replaced. Runs quieter, cooler, and of course faster being that its 7200 rpm. Old Toshiba drive would get so hot that it would shut down sometimes when rebooting a couple of times in a row and it was impossible to play any games because it was so hot. Great improvement.

Cons: None really. wasn't packaged as tight as I have seen from other stores or probably not near as tight as I would have done it but I know I like to over do it, and the drive worked great right out of the box.

Other Thoughts: Didn't think I would be able to tell a difference going from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm but as little as it is I can notice sometimes.
I've owned several Hitachi drives and never had any trouble with any of them, as opposed to seagate or Toshiba. Hitachi always delivers quite, cool, and very reliable drives for the price.

4 out of 5 eggsMore play than plug

Pros: Working with Unibody Macbook Pro. Apps seem faster on startup and boot up happens a little faster. No problems after finally getting it operational, so some joy to be had for the cash spent.

Cons: A struggle to get working with a MacBook Pro 5,2 version, with latest 10.6.4 and EFI updates to 1.8. Don't think the drive is the total issue, but rather compatibility with this variant of MBP. After suffering boot problems and hanging with spinning beach balls at random, I had to face the facts that the Hitachi drive would not work at SATA 3.0 speeds reliably. Changed the drive to SATA 1.5 and like magic it started working fine. But hey this is less performance than expected so one egg off.

Other Thoughts: Took a couple sessions and some googling to find the solution to make this HD and MBP be at peace. You'll need Hitachi's Drive Fitness tool to make the changes I mentioned (SATA 1.5 and disable spread spectrum) , if your bent on forcing this combo to work. Of course, I don't advocate down rating a HD's speed. Just warning upgraders to save you some struggling.
