5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great hard drive. No problems at all with it, runs quiet in an old case, so far as I can tell, does not need any form of cooling. Great for those putting together a simple desktop system or using it for an external HDD.

Cons: None unless you count formatting time (1TB and 2TB HDD's take so much longer... lol...)

Other Thoughts: I want a couple of the WD or Seagate 2TB HDD's (Externals), but this works great for the simple system I built for my Aunt.

3 out of 5 eggsExactly what you would expect

Pros: The Drive came in and works fine. My fans are louder than the drive so thats good.... Pretty much exactly what you expect from WD.

Cons: Shipping packaging was horrible The drive was put in a box 3x its size with one piece of packing paper.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Far It's Been A 100% Great Hard Drive

Pros: I've been using Western Digital since the year 2000. Never had a problem with any of them (except one). This hard drive is SATA II at 300mbps transfer rate which is really nice, and a 16MB Cache to copy & paste files faster between multiple hard drives. I ordered two of these. They haven't died yet and I've had not one problem so far!

Cons: Wish the RPM was 10,000RPM but it's the standard 7,200RPM. But you can always go Western Digital Raptor for the 10,000RPM.

Other Thoughts: Great Hard Drive, for a great price. What more can I say but only use Western Digital for reliability. What's more important a super fast hard drive that is 2TB size and will die fast since I personally believe the 2TB HD's technology isn't there yet. Or a smaller 320GB HD that will last many years to come? Think about it. Not like you can't add more then one.

1 out of 5 eggsInexcuseable

Pros: It was fast and quiet and stable.

Cons: Then 2 years later it crapped out.I was lucky to have recently made a backup, but I really shouldve listened to all the people who warned me about Western Digitals horrendous fail rate.

Other Thoughts: WD claims one more victim.Steer clear.

3 out of 5 eggsSo So

Pros: Price was right and they preform good. WD always makes a good product.

Cons: Had to buy these when my WD raptor gave out after 3 years of use....was not happy. They only score a 5.9 in windows 7 but I believe that may be an error.

Other Thoughts: Next time I will go with SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes it work?

Pros: Nice package and great shipping from NEW EGG

Cons: This hard drive is NOT compatible with most Via and SiS chipsets- I found this out the hard way by purchasing one. When I called western digital I talked to two different guys- the first told me to go to the Western Digital website and download the installer package- I couldnt find one besides a diagnostic, so I called back and got the other guy, who told me in no uncertain terms that they did NOT offer a install disk nor was there one he could send, I told him that was crazy and he gave me an analogy about going to a store and buying something like "you just get what you buy."

Totaly uncalled for.

Both spoke with heavy Indian accents and refused or ignored my request to speak with someone else.

They have lost 100% of my buisiness.

Other Thoughts: I did get a page on the site explaining a may fix to the problem, if you put a jumper between the #'s 5&6 pins on the back of the hd you reduce it's speed to 150 mbs. I tried this and was able to get my bios to recognise the drive, and I set the drive as the secondary boot device and my dvd player as the primary and tried to install windows that way- windows would not recognize the hd still.

New Egg has offered a refund for a swap and I can't say enough good things about the service I have recieved from New Egg over the last few years, but WD will never get one $ from me ever.

Thats sad, I heard their products were excellent.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performer

Pros: Fast, smooth and quiet. Great value, cost me $49.99 after rebate but did not buy it from Newegg since they were out of stock at the time.

Cons: None, though 320GB might be at the lower end of some user requirements for storage space especially if your stuck with a single drive bay.

Other Thoughts: I have had a 500GB WD Caviar Green for nearly year and found the Caviar Blue to be just as quiet and run nearly as cool. I was amazed just how quiet and smooth it is. I plan to purchase another in the near future.
