5 out of 5 eggsSay, these things are fast...

Pros: 15krpm disk, very low latency, good throughput. All this adds up to *fast*. Going to add a second one to mirror the first because all drives fail.

Cons: Kind of loud compared to some sata disks. Not loud compared to other 15krpm disks. Runs hot, of course, due to being 15krpm. If you only have sata ports, you can't play with these.

Other Thoughts: I do a lot of database work and use java a lot. On a well-configured linux box, these things really scream.

5 out of 5 eggsSCSI is number one!

Pros: Why waste money on a punk Raptor that is a supped up IDE drive with that half duplex interface? Go SAS/SCSI and leave that IDE at home. You can connect up to 15 drives to ONE cable, something those lame IDE/SATA drives you can't do. SATA drives are very sluggish compared to things. One thing most of you don't know, you can buy connectors to adapt the sas to sata interfaces and vice versa.........I have my drives on a Dell PERC 5 controller. If you have a hard time with your drives......thats undersandable..........they are a tad tricky............

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Avoid over-priced and under-performing Raptor drives............

4 out of 5 eggsthink twice!

Pros: 15 k

Cons: costly

Other Thoughts: keep in mind that you also must buy an expensive controller (200$, more or less) to make it work in your regular desktop PC). I think that doesn't worthy the 15k over a Raptor, considering the hassel. think twice before buy it. I have had to ask for a refund and paid over 30 for both restocking fee and shipping it back - very smart of me, sure...

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Just got 4 of these for my gaming rig... 4x 147 RAID 0 on SRCSAS18E, I get 375 MB/s Reads and 300 MB/s Writes. THIS is what makes Vista FLY! When I install things, the progress bar just flashes momentarily... Great Product!

Cons: A bit loud, but what do you expect, they're SAS drives!

Other Thoughts: If you're wondering what you need to do in regards to boosting performance, this is it!!!! + RAID ;-)

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None ( not working )

Cons: Bought 02 Fujitsu SAS 15K HDD. Went to great lengths to find 02 special SAS cables. Put everything together. They don't work at all. Had to replace them with 02 Caviar Western Digital. They work fine.

5 out of 5 eggsFaster than your Mom

Pros: Bought two of these for my new Vista Ultimate machine in a RAID 0 setup on a LSI SAS controller for the OS install. Vista loads from a cold boot in 9 seconds. Gaming from the hard disks is insanely fast and smooth. Applications install and load in nearly half the time as "normal."

Cons: As usual when you're dealing with the latest and greatest technology, the price is quite high. If you can afford these, buy them. Heat is an issue during heavy use (especially if you're using these for the OS install which gets written to constantly) but if you have a system with sufficient cooling you should be fine.

Other Thoughts: If you've got a dual core CPU and a lot of RAM and you're scratching your heading wondering what the bottleneck is in your system, upgrade your disks to faster speeds. These disks are twice as fast as an antiquated 7200-rpm disk. Yes they cost more but until you upgrade to faster disks you're not going to realize true performance. I learned this the hard way.
