2 out of 5 eggsPain in the neck- Do not buy

Pros: good FPS through active X IExplorer browser
decent picture quality
Good and quick WIFI G connection.

Cons: - Short power adapter cord
- Not very snuggy power port allowing power cord to disconnect from device at the slightest movement powering it down
- Goes to full pan rotation to zero position on boot (disabling it through software interface does not work)
- No zoom (known before purchase)
-No DDNS : although advertised and DDNS info written at the bottom of the camera but doesn't work, manufacturer did not apologize for that or offers solutions.
- obliges to use ACTIVE x over MS internet explorer to get full software
features
- No firmware update-
-Tricky Wireless set up in secured network, starting with a Lan set up makes things easier : 2 MAc address
- a bit noisy pan-tilt (could be heard outside a remotely monitored)
- Horrible noise interference when using mic or listening to sound through device.

Other Thoughts: HAS 2 different MAC addresses LAN and WAN, make sure to add the WAN one to your mac filter list to get the wireless to work.
This thing has been useful economic money wise but frustrating and time consuming especially with the email alerts set up.
bought this for 50$ more than 1.5 years ago, and it's price kept fluctuating since then.

3 out of 5 eggsGood camera for 50 bucks - with issues.

Pros: Good little camera. Picked up two. Better night vision than I expected. 10m+ easy. Video quality is about what you'd expect with 640x480.

Cons: I seem to be encountering an issue, which appears more frequently after setting up zone minder, that both cameras reboot at close if not exactly the same time. When this camera reboots it sends the camera on a calibration sequence that always end up with the camera pointed in an odd direction. This causes zone minder to freak out as well as pointing the camera away from the desired location.

Other Thoughts: There are many different vendors for this same camera and many of them are 50 bucks so pick one of those up instead of this at 90+ currently. It appears some of the vendors are providing firmware support while I have not been able to locate any firmware on the zmodo site. One of the other vendors may be better.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat when it worked-no support

Pros: Great camera for the price.

Cons: died quickly....< 1 month. no support from mfg.

Other Thoughts: This device worked perfectly when it worked. After it failed I could not, and still have not received a response fron the mfg.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Pan & Tilt Camera!

Pros: The first one I received did not pan. But I returned it and it was replaced and worked just fine out of the box. Video and snapshots resolution are adequate, don't expect high resolution for a price like this. I access the camera from anywhere in the world as I travel. I placed mine under the eaves of my house away from any rain. It has worked at all temperatures from 65 down to below zero. Configuration allows 3 types of user access that can be password protected. On motion detection the video or snapshots can be emailed to alert you. Motion detection can be enable 24/7 by selecting all 7 days and half-hour increments or less if you only want it active during a certain time and/or day.

Cons: There are a couple of issues with the firmware. The selection to upload image on alarm is inverted so you can't set the delay between the 6 snapshots. Sensitivity is good but whenever there is a change in ambient lighting, the AGC also kicks off a motion detection - no big deal after you recognize the pattern of emails. The wireless interferes with my garage door openers such that I have to be within 10 feet of the door to open or close it. Not the camera's fault but my openers either need to have their frequencies changed or improved shielding on the antenna. I will probably try the shielding first. This not much of an issue since I turn the camera off when I'm home.

Other Thoughts: For the money, I believe this is a good camera. Support from Zmodo is excellent! When I was having trouble with the configuration, the support tech and I discovered the selection inversion and he noted that for further reference. I contact support each month to see if there are any planned firmware updates but nothing so far. I don't have my hopes high for that since this camera is manufactured for many suppliers such as Foscam. You can try out Zmodo's camera at http://173.161.43.4/index1.htm and use 11111111 as the password.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Camera & Support

Pros: This review replaces a previous review I submitted - "Does Not Send Email Alerts." After spending a couple of hours on the phone with Zmodo support, we discovered that this model camera has a selection inversion to email images on motion detection. After we discovered that, the camera works flawlessly. The gentleman from support is also documenting what we found so it can be passed on to others requiring support. The pan and tilt functions all work great within my LAN and can also be viewed remotely after the router is properly configured. Also when connected to a PC through a browser (run as administrator) the camera will record 80 seconds of video on motion detection. I will be using this as a primary surveillance camera for my home.

Cons: Users guide is difficult to read so technical support needs to provide clarification. Zmodo has a website that offers better information at kb.zmodo.com.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes Not Send Email Alerts

Pros: None yet.

Cons: The first camera I received pan did not work. Camera was replaced by Zmodo under warranty. The second camera the one I have now works in all modes but it will not send an email alert on motion detection. The users manual that comes with the camera is not written for the casual user nor is it written for experienced users. It is extremely difficult to decipher, probably not written in the US. Zmodo tech support seems to be guessing at what it takes to configure the camera correctly. I have sent them 5 emails so far and each time I get another configuration that doesn't work. I'm still working with them and if they finally get the configuration to work, then I'll give this four eggs.

Other Thoughts: This camera is made in China and is marketed by many vendors of which Zmodo is one. I have looked all over the web for other's experiences with this camera but nothing yet that addresses its inability to send emails.

4 out of 5 eggsnot too shabby

Pros: picked this camera up from a daily deal type website a while back and got it for $50 so I thought to myself, why not. Turned out this camera is awesome. I have it setup indoors and the livingroom/diningroom/kitchen area it monitors are usually very dark during the day when no one is home but the camera does a very good job at keeping the video very well lit. The pan and tilt options are very nice. the motor is quiet and you would only hear it spin if you are right next to it. if the camera is 10+ feet away you would not hear it spin.
I am guessing my camera has a newer firmware (0.37.2.46 and web UI at version 0.8.4.18) and I have the gmail option by using SSTTLS. this is a plus. FTP option is very nice to have.

Cons: The video quality is mediocre. Is somewhat better in very well lit environments but who would leave the lights on just for the camera to shoot video better. I am guessing the camera would work a whole lot better outside on a porch or any outdoor environment (just make sure the camera is protected from weather and sunlight. this is not a water or weatherproof camera)

The web interface is very bland and minimal. If you use IE, you get all options available. Chrome or Firefox would use Push instead of ActiveX and a whole lot of camera options are not available there.

The software that comes with the camera is minimal, you get a few documentation documents on the CD. a scanner program to find the camera on your network and that's about it.

These are the only reasons I knocked off one egg.

Other Thoughts: While I got this for $50 I like it since it does what it's supposed to do. Motion Detection built in works pretty well but does catch on after a few seconds.

I tested it by setting it for motion detection alarm. walked in front of it. it finally detected I was walking in front of it but almost at the end of the frame, so it only captured a few frames of me being in the view. (this is because I walked side to side) but I was in it's view for a good 5-6 seconds. only caught me for the last 2 seconds or so. I guess it would work better if it was setup to where someone would approach it, then it would pickup the motion and capture the person in the view for a longer time.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: Inexpensive PTZ IP cam with infrared and wired+wifi support. It doesn't cost hundreds of dollars and has a fairly large feature set with motion detection. I run Linux exclusively and have no issues or need for a windows box with this cam -- web access on my desktop, zoneminder on a separate server and IPCam on my Android phone all work flawlessly.

Cons: Most config updates require a reboot and upon rebooting the camera does a full motion test which takes ~1minute and leaves the camera pointed at the ceiling

Other Thoughts: On-board motion detection wasn't very good at night, zoneminder however is exceptionally good at it so it doesn't concern me. External wifi antenna can be upgraded if longer distances are needed. I have it hardwired, but the wifi option is nice: I transported it to my bedroom when our dog was sick so that my girlfriend could watch her while we were out -- instant brownie points!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It does everything it says. Good night vision, ok camera quality. Camera can FTP.

Cons: Low color and over all video quality. If you dont have IE for your browser you loose a lot of camera options. I cant get the camera to save recorded videos to the computer. I tried the desktop software as well and that crashes anytime I try to access the user settings.

Other Thoughts: If this camera was given to me I would still go with something with zoom, better video quality and working quality software.
