4 out of 5 eggsGood upgrade to E2000

Pros: Great wifi stability. Good range. Good amount of options for setting up a home network from the interface or just going basic. replaceable external 5ghz antennas (but 9dbi antennas seemed to not perform as well as the included 5dbi) . the USB storage worked effortlessly but is a little slow when transferring huge files, or lots of tiny files.

Cons: the mobile tether app doesn't work with this router even though it's supposed to. the management interface isn't recognized by chrome as a password input field so it doesn't remember the admin password. slow usb but usable for streaming hd. there's not as much administrative and detail reporting on the activity and status of the router

Other Thoughts: i hope future firmware updates improve the monitoring and administration. the updates seem frequent right now so I'm hopeful

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Router

Pros: Great connection speed and ease of install. I made sure I upgraded the firmware to the latest version before setting up the router. Instructions and files to install the firmware were easy to find on the TP-Link website.

Went through the set it up via the web install. It was easy to get basic functionality going. Everything seems to be working so far. Plenty of options and features for a reasonable price.

Cons: Not a huge con, but you have to dig through the menus to find the right options. Still better than some other interfaces I have used in the past. The 5 GHz range is smaller than I expected, but not a deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you upgrade the firmware.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router/Switch

Pros: Easy to install and manage. The dual USB ports on the back make setting up media servers and FTP servers so easy. Power switch on the backs makes resetting it easy without the worry of damaging/shorting the plug port. Wireless switch on the back is nice so I can flip it off if I think someone is connected that I dont want on it. Dual band WI-Fi makes connecting old and new devices very simple regardless of what 802.11 devices you have. The C7 Archer also has an easy set up for a guest Wi-Fi (Optional) connection and you can limit the speed.

Cons: Unit seems a little bulky to me with what looks to be a nice overhang on the sides.

Other Thoughts: I started with a TP-Link router a few years ago (had it for 4+ years ago) and that one unit impressed me so much that I went with this unit when it was time to upgrade.
The high gloss black body is interesting on my white wall but the color is not that much of an issue to make it a con.
In over all this unit is great! Its only making my love for TP-Link even deeper.
I would recommend this router/switch to anyone.

4 out of 5 eggsfast!!! C7 V2

Pros: fast!!!!
Huge 2.4 GHz coverage, was not expected, very nice surprise!
so so coverage in 5 GHz as expected, still better coverage then old router

Cons: this router is not easy to setup nor is for the beginner,VERY difficult getting wireless devices linked to router, difficult changing LAN/WAN settings
Android devices was a snap connecting, ver. 4.0-4.4
HP Laser printer connected instantly, Wireless
Windows 7 laptop broadcom wireless EXTREMELY difficult
Windows 7 tablet intel wireless VERY difficult, + its not linking at max rate

Other Thoughts: Why i say this is not for the beginner, huge menu, way to many settings would be very confusing even more so that there is no instruction book "there is online"

overall this is a monster improvement over my old WNDR3400 that

when you do get everything setup and going this thing is FAST however wireless was my major issue but did get it going on windows devices

Samsung tab pro links @ 433Mbps
LG G2 links @ 390 Mbps. transfer avg = 270-320Mbps
Windows tablet @ 72Mbps its max is 144Mbps dang those intel drivers!!
Windows laptop connects max @72Mbps, Time to upgrade!

will update later on wireless rates

wired transfer rates avg is about 60-65MB transfer rates, avg for windows based

I only hope it lasts!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, fast, does the job well when it does

Cons: It drops the Internet connection several times a day, which is maddening. I have to repeatedly enable the device or fix the connection. I have no idea why this is.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why it does this. The router and DSL modem are configured properly. This is extremely frustrating and I regret buying it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for your review.

I am curious to find out if your issue is just on the Wireless, or both Wireless and Wired connection.

If you haven't done so already then you can update the firmware from our website at:

This can possibly help with any bugs that you may be encountering.

It is hard to determine where your main issue may be coming from but usally the Firmware is a good start.

Also changing the Wireless channel width to 20 MHz and the Wireless channel from auto to a cleaner channel in the area may help with the connection.

Feel free to contact if you need any further assistance or have issues and concerns.

Best Regards!

1 out of 5 eggsLasted a little more than a year

Pros: Fast right up until it died.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: I bought it on February 16, 2014. It stopped working on August 22, 2014. It was never dropped or abused in anyway. From the day It was delivered it was hanging in my hallway ceiling.

1 out of 5 eggsI was hopeful

Pros: The price is right. $200+ for a router is INSANE.

Cons: 1) Had a locked SSID from the factory, and network key wasn't provided. Had to connect via the WPS button.
2) Did not work out of the box. Had to manually configure the WAN connection for Dynamic IP from my ISP. That should be the default setting!
3) worked alright for the first day, now 2 days after purchase requires CONSTANT rebooting.
4) NO support from TP Link. There is only one firmware release for this router, and it's 8 months old!

Other Thoughts: FYI, this is the Archer C7 V2 that I currently have.
Purchased 8/23 and being returned 8/26.

TP Link,support your products!

3 out of 5 eggshad to rma

Pros: I got this about three months back. This thing blew away my dir-628, especially in wireless speeds. Unfortunately, it didn't last.

Cons: About a week before the third month of ownership it started dropping connection and wouldn't connect. I tried everything to get it to work, but had to rma it . The really bad part is that it was the wired connection I was having problems with, not the wireless.

Other Thoughts: I did notice others having this problem with V1. You'd think by V2 it would be fixed, nope. Shame on you TP-Link
TP-Link why not take the rma routers and figure out the problem, then make a patch. Wow, problem solved and I didn't even graduate college.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Router.

It is hard to determine if the issue you are seeing is due to software or some physical aspect of the connection.

If you haven't already done so then I would suggest trying a different cable to see if this could fix the problem.

When we get RMA devices we try to trouble-shoot and research the cause of the problem.

This usually leads to Upgraded Hardware and Firmware if known issues are found.

You may always check for Firmware upgrades on our website at:

Feel free to contact us directly with any questions or concerns.

Support is always here 24/7.

Best Regards!
