3 out of 5 eggsQuestionable

Pros: Works if you figure it out

Cons: Not plug-n-play

Other Thoughts: Took it straight out of the package and plugged it in. (Device driver not found) It's a install drivers first device which you have to download from the iogear website unless your computer accepts a mini cd. After you download, click the first setup icon you see in the first folder tree. If you go deeper into the folders and click a setup icon it doesn't work. Kind of a pita but I'm spoiled and used to plug-n-play...we are in 2014 right?? It works though but I was questioning it the whole time. Cheap enough I suppose. Does the job.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GBU521 is not a plug and play device, it requires drivers to be installed for your operating system. The updated drivers can be found at: http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GBU521#display. The instructions for the GBU521 clearly states the software must be installed before the GBU521 is connected to your computer. If you connect the GBU521 to your computer first Windows will load a generic driver that will not work correctly. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, works well

Pros: Good working Bluetooth USB adapter.
no LEDs
small
simple driver software integrates with windows

Cons: hard to remove
not directly compatible with ps3 controllers unless you force install drivers which may cause some issues.
does not connect to wiimotes like my other dongle does in windows. It does connect to them on Linux though, so perhaps it's the driver

3 out of 5 eggs50/50 Chance of Device Being Detected

Pros: Very small, it works. It's plug and play with Mac.

Cons: Very hard to remove! I had to use tweezers to get it out.

Other Thoughts: I recommend buying this if you want to plug in this device in the long term. If not, then I don't recommend it.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR. These comments will be forwarded to the product manager for review. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bluetooth 4.0
Small (also a con)
No issues with later versions of *Nix

Cons: Small

Other Thoughts: I list "small" as both a pro and con. It looks nice and does not take up much room, which is nice. However, it's kind of a pain to pull from some USB ports if you have big fingers .

Used mainly for my HTPC so I can connect a PS3 controller for some console style gaming accross the living room.

I also have an IOGEAR 2.0 bluetooth adapter that I bought a few years ago that is still working fine.

5 out of 5 eggsBest yet

Pros: Works well with Windows 7 x64. I had two other brands before that slowly melted and fell apart. This one has stayed cool. I've had it for seven months.I actually like the firm fit on my laptop so I won't lose it.

Cons: "Hey you with the WiFi smart phone. Just back away from my BT dongle and no one gets hurt." WiFi devices too close (less than 12 inches) to the dongle can lock it up. After moving them away, it usually self-restores in a few seconds. I also found that holding down a left mouse button too long on a web browser while scrolling down can lock it up, too. Not sure if it the MS mouse or not. Popping the dongle out and reinserting it restores it quickly though.

5 out of 5 eggsTwo years with no problems

Pros: Supports a lot of profiles. Small. Inexpensive. Works with my Nexus 5 & 7, headset, and mouse.

Cons: Tight fit in the USB port.

Other Thoughts: My wife and I both have one in our laptops and we've never had any problems. Get the drivers directly from Broadcom rather than the IOGear web site.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the job done

Pros: Small plug, doesn't get in the way, easy for me to set up and use

Cons: None so far, its worked perfectly for exactly what I bought it for

Other Thoughts: I had a PCI card for Bluetooth before, and have always had connection issues when reconnecting twice in the same boot period (so shutting the headset off and then attempting to reconnect). Pretty much figure it's the fault of the Windows OC at this point, not the hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks out of the box with Ubuntu Linux

Pros: This BT unit worked out of the box with both Ubuntu 12.04LTS and Ubuntu 14.04LTS. The OS recognized the BT device when plugged in. Clicked on BT symbol in panel and connected with my BT periferial device(s). I have BT connected two different speakers, mini-keyboard and connected to my wife's Kindle Fire HD.

Cons: Real tight fit in the USB socket.

Other Thoughts: With Linux you can throw away the driver disk that comes with the unit. The Linux Kernel comes with the drivers built in.

Iogear should advertise compatability with Linux Operating Systems

1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it ..junk

Pros: Fits in the USB port.

Cons: I couldn't get mine to work at all. Tried multiple OS's it would install but could not connect to anything ...I have a feeling it was just bad hardware but I wasn't paying more than it cost to package it and ship it back. No idea why these have such a high rating. Also finding drivers on the IOgear site that were current was a hassle.

Other Thoughts: good way to burn down ten dollars?

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com.
