1 out of 5 eggsSucks!

Pros: Blazing fast, WHEN it works on WiFI/Ether connection

Cons: Doesn't assign IP's to the devices connected to unmanaged TP-LINK TL-SG1005D switch! Previous r6300 model worked fine until i switched to R7000. VERY FRUSTRATED.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat, until....

Pros: Great speed and range...for the first two weeks or so..

Cons: ..after about 2 weeks, I would lose connections to both wireless and wired. After about 10 - 20 seconds, connections would be restored. It was just like someone reset the router. This happens now at least once a day, usually more.

Not cool! I have seen Netgear respond to these reviews offering to help, so I hope they know what the issue is. I had updated the f/w when I installed it so I am running the latest (V1.0.3.24_1.1.20).

Other Thoughts: Yes, I seen all the mixed reviews when I looked into it,but I guess I was hoping Id fall outside of the curve.

When it works, it works great, so hoping this can be resolved.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Bob,

We'd like to work with you right away to get this resolved. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy/paste of your review, as the firmware information will be helpful for our engineers. We'll work with you directly to troubleshoot or get you a warranty replacement if needed.

2 out of 5 eggsThis Thing is JUNK

Pros: Fast as can be...when it's not dropping signal and rebooting itself. Powerful WOW! My Galaxy S4 picks this thing's signal up 6 houses away and works!

Cons: Where to begin...Drops wifi on a regular basis, especially if you make it work at all. Has done this on 2 f/w versions, so it isn't that. Bought it 2 weeks ago and it was doing it out of the box. Upgraded f/w immediately, still does it. Have tried numerous configurations and settings, no dice. The customer service honestly, if they want to even call it that, doesn't exist. I called, got some person in Pakistan with a non-understandable accent thicker than molasses, asked for a domestic transfer and he simply hung up. Called again, got a female with almost the same level of accent, but I could understand her a bit more, but when we hit a wall, again, I asked to be transferred, bang!!!! Hung up on again! This happened 4 times. Finally, after more than 10 calls, numerous transfers, I get someone who is understandable (still foreign outsourced) and she basically reads the FAQ response off their support site...What was that? Ya, try reflashing the firmware because it sometimes doesn't take and monitor. So ya, let's see, hung up on 4 times, no help, told to "monitor" it, and it still doesn't work properly. Most recent drop and self re-boot...15 minutes ago while trying to simply go from one of my youtube videos back to the video manager...Nothing hard there...As soon as it was pushing data BAM!!! orange lights, no more white, and a minute of wait time for it to recycle iteself. Bought it from the "geeks" because I had a rewardzone coupon, otherwise would have bought here at the Egg!!

Other Thoughts: this will be the LAST Netgear product I buy. I have 2 other pieces and both have intermittent issues, much the same of dropping out. One is a USB wifi adapter in my shop computer, and half the time I have to swap USB ports for it to work again once it drops, and the other is a wnd4300 router that also dropped, although not as frequently as this, but I wanted more powerful signal, so that is what prompted the new unit.

Manufacturer Response:

We'll work directly with you to determine what is causing the issue or get you a warranty replacement if needed. We stand behind the quality of the R7000 100%!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast, good looking, has all the features I need

Cons: Drops connections, sometimes unable to connect some devices at all

Other Thoughts: Had those problems till I found that Nighthawk AC1900 loves to issue identical IP address to two different devices, e.g. to my NAS and my to wife's laptop.
Reserved IP addresses for them from the router's advanced menu and the router runs like a champ since.

1 out of 5 eggsRandom Reboots

Pros: 802.11ac is fast. I was able connect at 1300-1083mbps in bridge mode using two R7000 routers through one wall and approximately 40 feet away.

Cons: I purchased two R7000 routers. The first was used as an access point in the front room. The second was used as a wireless bridge in the office. The current stock firmware(V1.0.3.24_1.1.20) is incapable of 5ghz bridge mode. After dealing with Netgear customer service I was sent beta firmware( V1.0.3.52_1.1.23). This did fix the bridge issue and I was able to connect via wireless bridge at gigabit speeds as advertised, thumbs up.

Although bridge mode worked I stopped using it because the access point R7000 suffers from random reboots. While troubleshooting I’ve configured both R7000s as access points at different times. I used both the stock and beta firmware and both randomly reboot. It’s infuriating. While at home watching Netflix on a chromecast or roku I lose connection for 2-3 minutes multiple times while the router reboots and online gaming is obviously not possible due to connection issues.

I’ve returned the first router I purchased and filed an RMA with Netgear for the second. I would return the second R7000 to newegg but I'm past the return date.

I do not recommend. I’ve owned many routers and have never had this many issues.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We can't apologize enough for the trouble. We stand behind the R7000 and want to follow up with you once you receive your replacement. Please contact us at newegg@netgear.com to let us know if you have any issues with the RMA, we're here to help.

5 out of 5 eggsBest router ever tried so far

Pros: Better range over my old R6300v1 especially on the 5ghz band

External antennas to teak the exact best range coverage.

Works flawlessly with my Nvidia Shield streaming PC games

Easy setup.

Cons: Kinda on the big side. It does take up quite a bit of room.

Power cable was almost too short. Another 5" would have been perfect. (I have the router placed on a high shelf.)

Other Thoughts: I would like to try the router as an actual router but I have it configured as a WAP. Still rocks tho! Ping is lower by 20ms vs using my old R6300v1.

1 out of 5 eggswireless connection drops intermittently and frequently

Pros: it's pretty... wireless range is decent.

Cons: yep. latest firmware V1.0.3.24_1.1.20 and this piece drops intermittently -- all wireless transmission stops and the network is no longer visble. 5ghz or 2.4 doesn't matter. nothing fixes this... happens to all PCs in my home, my android phone, and the Wii. netgear doesn't seem to acknowledge an issue... forget trying to game online or watch netflix via wireless , this thing won't work for that.

this piece is going back... :(

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the issues you have been experiencing with your new R7000, you shouldn't be seeing these intermittent WiFi drops and we'd like to work directly with you to find the cause and correct it. Can you please email us your contact information along with a link to your review to amzon@netgear.com, and also include the following information to help us better understand your setup.

When you observed any of your WiFi devices dropping the wireless connection to the R7000, do all the other wireless devices drop at the same time?

When the issue happened, none of your WiFi devices could detect the R7000's SSIDs at all, is that correct?

How often did this happen? After it occurred would it ever restore itself? If not, how did you usually recover the connection?

Did you configure the R7000 in access point mode?

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Netgear Team

1 out of 5 eggsShoulda Known Better

Pros: Packaged well and arrived in a timely manner

Cons: Shoulda known better then to even go with a Netgear router never had any luck with them. Would not install took forever to even try and log in to set any type of settings all it would say is router not compatible.

Other Thoughts: This is going back and never again will a netgear product cross my door step. Went ahead and ordered the Asus model. My old Asus is still running like a champ so will give their new flashy router a go.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Azcntrygal,

We'd like to help and stand behind the quality of the R7000. Could you tell us in more detail what happened exactly? Were you able to complete the setup wizard with no issues? If not, where did the process fail, and what happened? If you still have the R7000, we'll be happy to work with you, and you can reach us at amazon@netgear.com.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and sleek looking

Pros: 1) Sleek looking
2) Massive antennas
3a) Long range, have 4-5 bars from the other side of the house on a different floor.
3b) Previous router (N900) could barely reach in terms of range.
4) AC-DC adapter is massive.
5) Intuitive and seamless in install. Plug and play.

Cons: 1) It's massive.
2) Cost
3) No to very little devices actually use AC speeds.
4) ISPs throttle bandwidth.

Other Thoughts: It's a fantastic router so far. I had to buy it because my N900 (RIP) got hit by a power surge during a power outage. Was very disappointed as the N900 was my favorite-to-date router; until I met this beast.

While unrelated to this router specifically, Netgear needs to have OSX support for when firmware gets corrupted and you have to manually flash. Aside from that, this is a great purchase.
