3 out of 5 eggsTastes like chicken

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: ~Rubberized grip. Makes it easy to remove (but not actually any easier to insert since you would be pushing opposite direction of the slider doing this method.)
~Activity LED
~Better than USB 2.0 performance
~Fair price for 32 GB of storage space

Cons: ~Mediocre transfer speeds for a USB 3.0 device (see Other Thoughts)
~Plastic feels flemsy. I could probably break the case apart with my hands with medium effort. An impact from a heavy object would most likey shatter the case.
~Activity LED is very bright and distracting if the device is in plain view. While connected to my TV as a media device, I cannot stop staring at the blinking blue strobe light burning my retinas. You cannot disable this LED.
~Formatted space is about 1GB less than my other comparable 32GB flash devices
~No lanyard included

Other Thoughts: For the propeller heads, here's my shakedown for performance on four various USB 3.0 flash drives, a USB 2.0 flash drive, in addition to a HDD and SSD using a USB3.0 interface cable for comparison purposes:

-Corsair Voyager 32GB USB3.0-
Max Transfer = 82.8 MB/s
Min Transfer = 54.0 MB/s
Avg Transfer = 66.9 MB/s

-Corsair Survivor 32GB USB3.0-
Max Transfer = 79.8 MB/s
Min Transfer = 79.2 MB/s
Avg Transfer = 79.5 MB/s

-HP/PNY X702W 32GB USB3.0-
Max Transfer = 95.8 MB/s
Min Transfer = 90.7 MB/s
Avg Transfer = 94.0 MB/s

-ADATA S102 16GB USB3.0-
Max Transfer = 116.4 MB/s
Min Transfer = 115.4 MB/s
Avg Transfer = 116.2 MB/s

-PNY Attaché 8GB USB2.0-
Max Transfer = 24.3 MB/s
Min Transfer = 9.3 MB/s
Avg Transfer = 20.7 MB/s

-Seagate Momentus HDD 320GB 5400rpm USB3.0-
Max Transfer = 75.3 MB/s
Min Transfer = 35.8 MB/s
Avg Transfer = 59.7 MB/s

-PNY XLR8 SSD 120GB USB3.0-
Max Transfer = 184.0 MB/s
Min Transfer = 138.2 MB/s
Avg Transfer = 156.3 MB/s

In summary, do not buy this flash drive if you are looking for true USB 3.0 performance. It's just not here. However, it does perform better than a USB 2.0 device of equivalent size, so at least it's not a complete dud on the performance scale.

Benchmarks compiled using HD Tune Free v2.55. All benchmarks performed using the same USB 3.0 port on an ASRock Z68 Extreme 3 motherboard and Windows 7 SP1 x64. Drives formatted using FAT32 system and maximum block size of 64Kb. I did not benchmark on USB 2.0 as that would create a bottleneck not defined by the flash drive's limitations (like test driving a sports car at half throttle).

4 out of 5 eggsGood But a small flaw

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: I really like this flash drive. Its fast, it does not have a cap and it's USB 3.0. I used this flash drive to play music and videos for my son over my vehicles navigation system. The files are large and do load fast, I have been playing files from this flash drive almost nonstop because I drive most of time for work and I have to say in the past month this flash drive has a minimum of 200 hrs and not a single hiccup.

Cons: The thing I really dislike about this unit is the slide locks - they are too hard and when I try to use one hand to open it or close it I can't do it driving. One handed operation is a must and is very difficult, so if you have limited use of your hands from physical disabilities I can see how this flash drive will be very hard for you to work with. If you have limited dexterity then this drive will not work well for you.

Other Thoughts: If they would just fix the locking part of the slider I would be happy to re-review the product and give 100% happiness. Until that day if you have kind of dexterity issues with sliding things using your fingers and thumbs, be cautious. But over all I have been more than happy with this flash drive and would recommend it

4 out of 5 eggsWhat's in a Thumb Drive

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: 32 gb which is enough for a Blu-Ray
Corsair Brand, they make good stuff...right?
The price is right
Capless
Slide action doesn't feel flimsy like a couple of my drives
Can game off of it

Cons: No lanyard included
Did not work in my Clarion, Ford or Buick car stereo for MP3 audiobooks FAT32 or NTFS
I am sure that is not a function of the Voyager but must be listed
No lanyard included
Formatted FAT32
Slow write speeds.
No lanyard included
On Corsair web page no claims are made regarding speed
other then "zippy"...Uh, What's that mean?
No lanyard
Seems bulky

I would like a lanyard. I know, I know they are rare these days but for an extra dollar Corsiar could include one. If I have to buy one it's going to cost me more.

Other Thoughts: Is speed everyting? For most that is the bellwether. It is not for me though. For those that really think speed is the end all here are your numbers

Voyager FAT32
Sequential Read : 80.400 MB/s
Sequential Write : 18.355 MB/s *******
Random Read 512KB : 70.351 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 0.432 MB/s

Voyager NTFS

Sequential Read : 79.013 MB/s
Sequential Write : 17.813 MB/s *******
Random Read 512KB : 71.545 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 0.409 MB/s

USB 2

Sequential Read : 34.626 MB/s
Sequential Write : 17.410 MB/s *******
Random Read 512KB : 34.267 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 1.448 MB/s

I prefer to think of what can I do with 32 gb of portable storage. Of course there are all the files you can carry
but there is more. My Blu-Ray player has USB input. If I would rather not spend a disc I can copy to the Voyager
(takes about 16 minutes) and watch my videos that way. Yes, my Blu-Ray reads USB3.

Have some files you want cross country but don't have the bandwidth allowance to upload them. Put them on the Voyager
and mail it. Cheap.

Want to boot a gazillion linux distros? WHY ???? AARRGGHHHH !! You can do it with the Voyager.

Spend some time and think of the possibilities beyond benchmarks and read/write speeds.

I copied the contents of my Dead Space folder to the Voyager and plugged it into my i3 laptop. Is data transfer fast enough to play the game off the Voyager? Yes.

If all you are going to do is benchmark the Voyager then you will be disappointed. I am convinced that Flash drives are akin to fast food french fries. There is a lot of profit in them or there wouldn't be so many companies selling them.
The Voyager doesn't seem to distinguish itself but if you search the Newegg reviews for 5 Egg USB 3 flash
drives and read the reviews even those drives costing twice as much and CLAIMING faster write speeds
don't seem to deliver much faster results then the Voyager.

For the price and capacity this is as a better choice then most.

4 out of 5 eggsSturdy, Affordable, but Slow Write Speeds

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: Worked immediately when I plugged it in. The build quality feels solid and quite a bit above average, and that includes the slider function; it seems like it will last under rigorous use. I don't need to worry about having a protective cap since the connector slides into the device.

On average, I had a read speed of around 72 MB/sec. (USB3). This is an excellent speed and I can get large files off rather quickly.

Cons: On average, I had a write speed of 17 MB/sec. (USB3). Not the greatest rate. Because the write speed is a bit on the slow side, I'm going to knock an egg off as it feels misleading to label the drive zippy but have an uninteresting write speed.

Other Thoughts: This drive is advertised as "Zippy", but really only is related to its read speed. With that said, this drive is very affordable for the capacity and is not a bad choice to own.

3 out of 5 eggsHorrid Write

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: - USB 3.0
* Good read speeds

Total read speeds was 122 MB/s with 0's
Total read speeds was 98 MB/s with randoms
Total read speeds was 104 MB/s with urandoms

It is a tough casing and a protector for the connector.

Rubber feel on the outside is nice.

Cons: Horrid Write speeds

Total write speeds was 28 MB/s with Zeros
Total write speeds was 2.1 MB/s with randoms
Total write speeds was 4.2 MB/s with urandoms

Other Thoughts: I was using NTFS format and DD for the benching

Horrid Write speeds but good read. I used this on USB 3.0

Overall, I would only use this as a backup Flash Drive

5 out of 5 eggsNice Drive for the money

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: Nice design, good price, slide closure, USB 3.0, pretty fast considering, tie loop to tie around neck or ect, activity Led.

TIME // TO COPY Files FROM HARD DRIVE / TO slider drive USB 3.0 ==
3358 mp3 files -- in 27 folders --also 3 AUDIO CD image files TOTAL SIZE OF COPY -- (16.1GB)
(Took 31 min 35 sec From start to finish)

TIME // TO COPY same Files FROM HARD DRIVE TO PNY USB 2.0 ==
3358 mp3 files -- in 27 folders --also 3 AUDIO CD image files TOTAL SIZE OF COPY -- (16.1GB)
(Took 59 min 31 sec From start to finish)

SO FOR THE EXTRA COUPLE BUCKS SAVING OF TIME IS WORTH IT TO ME...

Cons: WISH IT WAS THINNER - No cover for male plug CAVITY – SO just don’t put it in places that can cause a problem like pocket - Activity light on wrong side for my computer – My problem not the slider drive

Other Thoughts: This is not the first Corsair flash drive I’ve owned. I have a flash voyager usb 3.0 for over 2 years now and it still works great. I have read the reviews on both these drives and I find it hard to believe they malfunction so quickly on other people. Maybe there is something else going on. Like let’s be gentle with these things. I have never had a flash drive go bad and at one time I carried 3 in my tool case of course I placed them in a protective case. So before you guys blame the drive think of how it was treated. My personal thoughts of this slider is it’s worth the money and much faster than USB 2.0 -- So I give it a definite 2 Thumbs Up

5 out of 5 eggsdecent economy flash drive

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: -didn't need scissors to remove it from packaging.
-decent price / performance ratio.

Cons: none that i could find.

Other Thoughts: kind of big and bulky but won't be as easy to misplace like some of the mini flash drives are.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 3.0 flash drive so far

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: Good sized flash drive, doesn't get lost in your pocket
No extra software or drivers to install...just plug and play
works with USB 2.0 ports (backwards compatible)
good design, I like the sliding feature, it has a small grip portion to pull in and out the USB port
Has a small loop for keychains which I use a lanyard to keep this flash drive handy
materials seem very sturdy, made of good quality plastic
visible blue light for activity is great
faster read/write speeds than my other USB 2.0 flash drives

I have plenty of USB 2.0 flash drives but this is my first USB 3.0 flash drive I've ever used.

Cons: As usual for every Flash Drive, HDD or SSD's I've ever bought...this one states 32GB but I only got 30.9GB of free space on this flash drive. On top of that it shows at 16KB is being used and that only 28.8GB is available.

Did not get the 100MB/second that USB 3.0 claims to get from either reading or writing.

Other Thoughts: Here's my setup:
Samsung Laptop (Intel i5-3230M CPU @ 2.69GHz, 6.00 GB RAM, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit)
Internal SanDisk SSD 256GB
External Samsung SATA 2.5" HDD connected via USB 2.0
External Corsiar 32GB Flash Drive connected via USB 3.0

Tests #1 to #4 was determine how fast/slow transferring to Corsair 32GB Flash Drive

Test #1 - Read from Internal SSD - write to Corsair 32GB Flash Drive
348MB Data File
Got constant 22 MB/second transfer speeds

Test #2 - Read from Internal SSD - write to Corsair 32GB Flash Drive
2.7GB Video file (MP4)
It started with 45MB/second for about 5 seconds then dropped to 23.2MB/second until transfer completed

Test #3 - Read from External 2.5" HDD (USB 2.0) to Corsair 32GB Flash Drive (USB 3.0)
459MB Data File
It started with 30MB/second for about 2 seconds then dropped to 14.2MB/second until transfer completed

Test #4 - Read from External 2.5" HDD (USB 2.0) to Corsair 32GB Flash Drive (USB 3.0)
1.71GB Video (MP4)
Transfer speed 32MB/second for 5 seconds then dropped to 13.9MB/second until finished transfer

Tests #5 thru #8 was determine how fast/slow reading from the Corsair 32 GB Drive to another destinationd

Test #5 - Read from Corsiar 32GB flash drive and write to Internal SSD
348MB Data File
It started with 48MB/second for about 2 seconds then dropped fluctuating between 41.0MB/second ~ 42.5MB/second until transfer completed

Test #6 - Read from Corsiar 32GB flash drive and write to Internal SSD
2.7GB Video file (MP4)
It started with 42MB/second for about 5 seconds then dropped fluctuating between 21.1MB/second ~ 24.3MB/second until transfer completed

Test #7 - Read from Corsiar 32GB flash drive and write to External HDD (USB 2.0)
459MB Data File
It started with 46MB/second for about 3 seconds then dropped to 15.6MB/second until transfer completed

Test #8 - Read from Corsiar 32GB flash drive and write to External HDD (USB 2.0)
1.71GB Video (MP4)
Transfer speed 32MB/second for 2 seconds then dropped to 13.9MB/second until finished transfer

What I got from this test:

Read speeds from Corsair 32GB Flash drive varied between 22MB/second to 45MB/second
Write speeds to Coarsair 32GB Flash drive varied between 21MB/second to 48MB/second

My thoughts: get this if you need a 32GB flash drive with faster than USB 2.0 transfers...on the other hand, if you need faster transfers USB drive maybe wait until the technology is better where they are reaching 100MB/second transfers.

5 out of 5 eggsI Think it's a sturdy Speed Demon

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: Solidly built with a firm gripping body. The Slider works perfect and offers good protection for the usb connector.
Speed is perfectly adequate transferring files usb 2 mode.Tho why use usb 2? When hooked into a usb port this baby works like its an sdd.

Cons: I hope i don't lose this one lol

Other Thoughts: Speeds in USB 3 peak at 70MB/s and average in the 40s for a large file.Copying a large mixed program file is somewhat slower 10 to 25MB/s.Plenty fast.

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-32GB

Pros: Fast enough speeds. As expected.

Cons: I've owned this drive a couple months short of a year. It's always been stored nearly on my desk, hardly touched. I used it a total of 3 times in it's entire life span before it just stopped working last week.

Other Thoughts: I'll definitely be spending the extra cash and buying more reliable flash drives in the future. I'm very disappointed in this drive.
