4 out of 5 eggsGood hardware that's difficult to install

Pros: Good recording. Fast response. Multiple input options.

Cons: Hauppauge has always had problems with the software side of their products. The colossus is no exception. If you are planning to purchase this unit, you should expect to spend some time and experience some frustration in getting it to operate well. Their software updates tend to be buggy, and the drivers don't tend to coordinate well with GUI 's. IT WILL, however, run well if you keep at it.

1 out of 5 eggsCaution

Pros: My intended use was with MS Media Center. I wanted to use the HDMI output of my cable box to view and record true Hi-Def TV. To this end the product performed flawlessly. Previously used the S-Video connection so this was a dramatic inprovement.

Cons: The problem is that the IR Blaster that is built into the card could not be configured to work with my Xfinity Cisco RNG200N STB. A call to Hauppauge support only gave me a "we have problems with some STB's". The support person did not try to work with me at all to resolve this problem.

Other Thoughts: If the IR Blaster is not needed, this product is great. If you do need the blaster, it's a coin toss if it will work or not. Don't depend on the support people to help.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for me

Pros: I've owned two previous Hauppauge internal TV tuner cards and was happy with their products.

Cons: This HD card does not work with Windows 7 64 bit and I know how to install Hauppauge software.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: comes with most cables. I have not had any issues with this card. I am using it to convert my old laserDiscs. I look forward to using it as a DVR when I am done. It does a great job for me.

Cons: I almost gave it 4 eggs. I do not use the software that comes with the card. I use Roxio Creator NXT Pro 2. It works great and is fast.

Other Thoughts: If you make changes to the setup you may need to reboot for it to work correctly. I found if I was having an issue a reboot would take care of it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat capture card, but large in size ...

Pros: Had used ATI's video capture hardware for years and thought I would try out Haupp's Colossus capture card. I liked having the choice of composite / component / hdmi connection options. The software works well with the card and captures in 1080i as advertised. Make sure you have plenty of HD space to capture files in HD. Had for +6 months now and use it daily for capturing tv shows for the family. Windows 7 runs it great and never had to reboot for a lost signal or the card disappearing from the device manager (unlike some of the older ATI cards.) Software works well multi-tasking as well.

Cons: The card seems to me overly large for what it does compared to other capture cards. Between the mobo layout and my high end ram with cooling rails, this card really disrupted my video card upgrade plans. Capture software appears to have a memory leak, after running +24 hours or so wether it is capturing or not, it eats up the majority of the system RAM. Rebooting every few days seems to be the fix.

Other Thoughts: I spent a little more money on this capture card because of the hdmi option and ended up using the component side now exclusively. HD programming looks great in the raw capture format and after being formatted for viewing on other devices.

5 out of 5 eggsHauppauge Modle 1414

Pros: My pci-e was turned off in the uifi bios.
After that everything was smooth.

Cons: Big business putting their foot in it. Not allowing us full control.

Other Thoughts: The unscrupulous web sites calming to be Hauppauge.
They try to get into your computer, claiming to scan for driver updates. Then say they found problems. Wanting Money.
And taking control of your computer.
So you think that's impertinent! Just Beware! When you update drivers. Not everyone knows.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent except for inoperable IR remote control

Pros: Excellent HD picture and sound capture quality. Excellent included softwares: WinTV, ArcSoft Showbiz and Hauppauge Capture.. Easy to install.

Cons: Could not get the IR Blaster remote control to work. Technical support was not much help. I bought this card primarily because of the claim that it can change the channels on my cable box. Tried two different cable boxes, but no luck. Hence the three star rating. Been struggling with it for the last two days. Tried every trick in the book to get the program to "learn" my Mediacom remote controller. Finally gave up on the IR blaster remote control feature.

Neither of my two cable boxes (Motorola DCX3200 and Pace DC700X HD) were in their data base. Both boxes work with the same Mediacom remote controller.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card to replace my AVerMedia AVerTV HD DVR card; and it is by far superior to the AVerMedia AVerTV HD DVR card. Would have given it five star rating if the IR remote controller had worked.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but not great

Pros: Lots of ins/outs, works with WMC, Picture quality is very good. Relatively easy to install/set-up.

Cons: IR Blaster or software stinks. The program for configuring your remote is very tricky and not well explained. Mine is connected correctly, but I can not run the configuration program because it doesn't seem to think my blaster is connected. I know for a fact it is, because it lights up when trying to send commands, and the remote receiver (which is connected to the same jack) works, but the program (learning and sending) does not.

The WinTV7 software isn't so great. It works, but it's not much to look at. Windows Media Center is much better, but you have to download a program from Hauppauge's website to make it work.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use this to watch/record gameplay or video it works great. If you want to use it to control your cable box like a DVR, it seems like it's pretty hit or miss.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card...For the Patient

Pros: Great for the patient, high-end user

Cons: Difficult to get working optimally.

Other Thoughts: Colossus is a monster to get some quality out of. First: uninstall any and all codec packs. FFdshow especially as it seems to interfere with the ffdshow compressor that ships with hauppauge's software (is that even legal?). Reboot. After doing so, make a second pass on your system. Install LAV filters. Reboot. Install Hauppauge Capture. No matter how broken any version of HC is, it won't break the compressor...unless you start messing with this stuff. If you are getting bad blocking and halo'ing artifacts you need to start over. The card has a tiny residual memory on it. After driver changes (uninstall, install, reinstall) you need to shutdown and cold-boot otherwise the old drivers will resurrect. NEVER INSTALL SHOWBIZ or ANYTHING THAT COMES WITH YOUR COLOSSUS FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECORDING. These things are virulent, broken, and nest inside windows to the point they become difficult to remove and correct. Always disable hardware acceleration and preview. If you have followed the above instructions you now have an essentially loadless and 1:1 PC recording solution. It suffers where one would expect: blacks and high motion.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: None

Cons: I bought this and it has never worked it won't even load correctly and the companies way to fix it requires a 32 bit OS which of course I don't have so now I have a paper weight and it dosn't even do that well.

Other Thoughts: Garbage
