3 out of 5 eggsOk - but not great

Pros: Easy setup and a good range of options (guest network, dd-wrt support).

Cons: Range. Even 10-15 feet away - unobstructed, can't get full connectivity. And if I move to another room, it gets worse. Not exactly what I expected from a device that claims whole house coverage.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased many TrendNet products (4 gigabit switches and an access point) and haven't experienced any issues. This product is used to extend my FiOS network, but the signal from the primary router and the access point are better than from this router. Sitting literally in front of it and the access point that's located in an upstairs bedroom has a stronger signal. Something wrong when an access point that's 50 feet away and has to go through multiple walls is stronger than your new AC router!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Please ensure the router has been updated with the latest firmware update and then reset. Try using a different channel to see if the issue was caused by Interference on the specific channel it was using. Please also check the placement. Try to place it as high as possible and avoid placing it near anything that would cause radio frequency interference. To take advantage of 802.11ac standards please ensure your wireless devices also support 802.11ac. If you need assistance with the router please mail Adrian@trendnet.com and we’ll have someone assist you as soon as possible. Please include a link to this review.

Adrian

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so Good!

Pros: Bought this router after reading reviews and comparing features. Best bang for the buck. Ability to use DD-WRT Open Source firmware sold me. Adds extra features and lots of support/documentation. And can increase power if needed to cover whole house & yard. Just what I needed in a top-of-the-line home router.

Cons: None to speak of. Works as advertised.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fast speeds (of course these would be limited if you have a slow modem)
Passwords/usernames/router ip address printed on the router itself so you never have to go searching online for defaults.
Shipping was very quick, around 4 business days for standard shipping.
Dual networks (2.4 and 5.0) maximize speeds for everyone who connects.
No trouble connecting 8 computers, all HD streaming live games to Twitch.

Cons: Not cheap (but worth it if you ask me)

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome router with great speeds

Pros: No complaints, picked this router to replace my slower AC router and this thing performs ALOT better and faster..My range has easily improved, previously I wasn't able to get any wireless connection in the office room but now I get exceptional connection. speeds are great, have not experience any issues online gaming through the PS4. installation was a breeze with the already encrypted wireless settings, just replaced the old router and I was up and running in no time..

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: So far I'm happy with this wireless upgrade

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: So far so good, easy to update firmware and just renamed my 2.4 and 5GHz networks. Changed admin password to access settings. Good speed so far.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I did some research on AC routers before purchasing this one. It seems to be the best bang for your buck. Other comparable high-end routers are in the $200 range.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointing router

Pros: Nice looking router, easy to setup.

Cons: Very disappointing. I bought this router to replace my old Linksys, and it simply doesn't match up in term of performances and features to my old router.
Most disappointing is the IPV6 support: it's very basic, so even thought the spec say it has support of ipv6, do not buy this product if ipv6 support is important for you.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line: If you need a router that is easy to setup this might be a good option for you. But otherwise look for another options.

1 out of 5 eggsRange is absolutely Horrible

Pros: The only thing I liked about this router was the size, upright stance and lights to let you know what the router is doing.

Cons: Trendnet advertises this router as whole home coverage with powerful amplifiers. I found this to be very untrue as the 5 ghz band was good for 10' and the 2.4 ghz band was good for 15' so its more like a whole room router. I had 2 of these and after the second one was no better then the first one I requested a refund.

Other Thoughts: I used the first one for a week to see if some burn in time would improve the range and it didn't so I thought that I just got a bad one. I sent it back and got a replacement and the range on the new one was just as bad, I finally gave up and sent it back for a refund. I basically wasted a month and $25 waiting and paying for shipping.

2 out of 5 eggsNice package, horrible range

Pros: Nice packaging
Easy to set up
Nice software

Cons: range is horrible, significantly less than my NetGear WNDR4500
No external antennas (would have been easy to install higher power antennas)

Other Thoughts: Due to the lack of decent range, I returned the unit. I plan to order either the NetGear or Asus AC1900.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: Wow, this completely blows away all expectations! Even though the built-in wizard is probably good, I wanted to tweak a few things so I set it up myself. I really appreciate the guest SSIDs for when company comes over. No need to give out the WPA2 key anymore!

The best part is the dual 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands. No need to worry about slower devices encroaching on the faster devices. And it more than doubles the range of my old router. Now I can sit on the back porch and still get signal!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: My first TrendNet product but definitely not my last!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy setup. Lots of flexibility. Very fast. Great range for 2.4 GHz band

Cons: 5 GHz range not as good as 2.4 GHz

Other Thoughts: Just set this up to replace a D-Link DIR-655 router I was having issues with (range and general reliability). So far, I couldn't be happier. The setup was very easy. I configured a 2.4 GHz "n" network, a guest 2.4 GHz "n" network, and a 5 GHz "ac" network. Total setup time was still less than 10 mins. This came with a free linksys media bridge when I ordered it, and it took just a couple mins to setup using the WPS buttons. So far that is very stable and it made a noticeable difference in connection speed (I have a desktop plugged in to the media bridge now, will probably add a blu-ray in a bit).

As compared to my old router, the range on the 2.4 GHz network is very good. I have a 2-story house with a basement, the router being in the corner of the basement. Previously, I could not get a stable connection everywhere in my house. Now, using the 2.4 GHz band, there is a strong connection everywhere. The range on the 5 GHz band is not as good, and doesn't reach to the opposite side of the house on the 2nd story, but my media bridge is on the opposite side of the house on the first floor and the connection there is fine.

So far, I'm very happy with the purchase and it has made a big difference.
