4 out of 5 eggsITS ALIVE

Pros: it reads microSD cards!
its dirty cheap!

if you have to RMA one of these babies like I did the packaging just barely fits into a standard postal envelope which drastically reduces the price of shipping it back to newegg.

Cons: The first one was DOA

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not reliably work

Pros: Nice price, and I love this small form factor.

Cons: Does not reliably work. With some memory cards, it will work, but not always. For example, I had a card in the unit and when it was plugged in to the USB slot, Windows File Explorer showed a new removable drive was added. But it would not show the contents. After a few repeated ejects/inserts, I switch to another card reader using the same memory card. Then it mounted and was readable. Then I switched back to his product, and then it mounted. In another case, I never could get the card to mount, though it was readable by a different USB reader. So there is something unreliable about the design. I bought two, and they both seem spotty. I'd steer clear.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Facilitates using small and compact Micro SD chips as USB flash drives. Micro SD chips can then be used in all my cameras and players, sometimes with an SD adapter. These Micro SD to USB adapters will fit in the USB ports on essentially ANY computer without blocking other ports, something most USB flash drives will not do. Help protect the Micro SD chips from damage. You can attach a large tag to the adapter and park the chip in it so you don't have to figure out how to write on the tiny chips. This also helps protect the tiny chips from loss or damage.

Cons: Don't step on it on a hard floor. Don't suck it up with the vacuum cleaner. Order a few extras so you don't have to change the chips too often. USB 3 coming?

Other Thoughts: Bought a few of these. Work great. Buying more.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: It's Cheap!

Cons: First thing I've ever gotten from Newegg DOA. Not going to return it, the shipping would be more than it's worth.

Reader makes a rattling sound, so I'm guessing the chips not seated well enough and something became unsoldered or broken in shipping.

Tried going to the manufacturers website hoping it might be a documented problem. All I found was a support page with to pictures available in the downloads section.

1 out of 5 eggsShame

Pros: It got here in one piece. Low price.

Cons: DOA on arrival, first thing I've ever gotten from New Egg DOA. I don't think I'll return it, the thing costs less than a sandwich so no real big surprise. Sounds like somethings loose so maybe bad seating or solder.

Tried going to the manufacturers website hoping for possible drivers or FAQ's the support download page had two pictures of the reader and nothing else. *sigh*

Other Thoughts: No easy way to take it apart to repair so might need to just cut it open with a razor blade and investigate further.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's inexpensive and it works!

Pros: small, very simple, very easy to use, inexpensive

Cons: nearly all plastic, for use with micro sd only

Other Thoughts: As others have mentioned the unit is nearly all plastic. Most USB plugs have a metal tip which makes them easy to insert and pull out, the plastic does create some drag in tight USB ports. The product seems durable and well designed. Micro sd cards are easy to insert and a gap in the top of the unit makes the cards easy to pull back out with a fingernail. I was able to take a card out of an old cell phone and load pictures and other data onto my computer. Windows recognized it right away, no software or settings needed. Now I use it as a USB drive. Very satisfied, would buy again.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA?

Pros: Small

Cons: DOA = The cf card worked fine if used directly, but couldn't see it in mac, linux, freebsd, or win computers if the adapter was used.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Small, and very light.

Cons: Doesn't read any of my microSDHC cards. I have three and all work in my phone and car stereo.

Might work with standard microSD, I didn't try.

Other Thoughts: Tried it with windows7, linux mint, and crunchbang. No machine was able to access the cards.
