1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY! GARBAGE!

Pros: You will get a lot of troubleshooting experience and become very familiar with their RMA procedures

Cons: Lasts less than a few weeks.

Terrible service and turn around on MULTIPLE replacements

Slow transfer speeds ( I mean like 200k /sec)

Other Thoughts: This is my second review of this product. I got the first one and it lasted about a week before failing. I got the second one and it lasted a few weeks before failing. I got the third and it died again after a couple of months.

I will not be sending it back again. The $ spent on return shipping could have paid for another product.

Engenius seems to respond to some of the feedback here but that is where the service ends. Not only were the replacements useless, but it took almost as much time to get the replacements as the units lasted before failing.

Skip it. Spend a few $ more and save yourself a lot of headache.

2 out of 5 eggsnot good, no long distance

Pros: many functions,
good price

Cons: The wife range is worse than my 5 years old cheap basic belkin wirelss router.
I wanted to upgrade my router with 2.4 and 5 GHz,
Neither had good range.

I wasted my money.

1 out of 5 eggsMultiple Returns all died

Pros: As stated in the specifications it has a lot of great features.

Cons: 1st router I setup worked great for less than 1 day and then it completely died (no power at all).

2nd router I recieved worked great for about 1 week and then it started to disconnect both wireless and wired connections every 3-5 seconds. Could not even log into the website to see if it was rebooting or something else was happening. This time lights stayed on, but I believe it was restarting continuously.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggs2 Routers that died within the first week

Pros: Cool features, guest network, 5Ghz, USB for NAS

Cons: The Router has a faulty power system. First system died within the first day (no power at all).

The second one after 1 week. Power lights stayed on, but kept disconnecting every 3-5 seconds with wired network.

3 out of 5 eggsLooks Kinda cool and performs

Pros: Dual Band, Appearance gives a different look than the usual, Fast, Cloud environment options, WWM, multiple SSID capable, more!

Cons: Pricey when at regular price, some options are complicated for uneducated users

Other Thoughts: The amount of features that are packed into this little unit surprised me. It shouldn't have as it seems that everything is becoming multi-use these days. I like the dual band as well as the wizard for setting it up. Made it very easy. I am not a regular user of Cloud services, but that feature is actually very nice to have, and it will probably help me to become more familiar with using cloud services. Being able to control the output power is another feature that comes in very handy. I have read about failures after a period of time, so will keep an eye on that. So far so good with this little unit!! Have actually stuck my recently-new other router in the cabinet as using this just plain gives me more options and has given my wireless more speed and capabilities... Will write another report in the near future to let y'all know how she's functioning!

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Worthless Garbage

Pros: None to speak of

Cons: The first one I received lasted about 3 days and then failed. It would power on but would not broadcast etc. The replacement lasted about 2 months with the same failure. I was unable to connect to it via wireless or wired to even try and troubleshoot.

I am an I.T. guy for a living so this is not an ID10T error.

Other Thoughts: I am going to send this in to engenius for warranty but am having major reservations about spending another $10 on shipping for an item that I expect to just fail again.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked well until 4th?! one failed!

Pros: Great latency, good signal strength, relatively easy configuration (15+ second waits after setting each value are a bit annoying).

Cons: Don't last -- I had two at opposite ends of the house and here's how they lasted.
1 - 1 week (RMA'd through NewEgg)
2 - 3 weeks (RMA'd through EnGenius)
3 - 3 months
4 - DOA (new from EnGenius)

This thing does get relatively hot in use, so I bet they died due to thermal issues. It's winter in Denver, so they should have a good environment, but the air is thinner, so maybe they skimped too much on heat sinks.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Router

Pros: - Dual Band
- Good Speed
- Good Range
- Reliable
- Multiple SSID Broadcast

So far I like this router very much. It is easy to set up for a novice (wizard mode) and it has all the options you could want (advanced mode). The speeds are good (see other thoughts) and the range is good for a router that doesn't have external antennas.

I really like the multiple SSID broadcast. I have a 2.4ghz network, a 5ghz network, and a 2.4ghz guest network, which is isolated from the rest of the networks so I don’t have to give my password out to people and they can’t access my home network.

Having a 5ghz network is nice, my community is clogged up with 2.4 signals, plus the household interference. Not all my devices are capable with the 5ghz spectrum so having a separate 2.4 is great. The 2.4ghz signal is strong enough to cover just about the whole house while the 5ghz can only cover about half of it. This is about normal, but I’m slightly disappointed that the 5ghz signal drop is so apparent when you move farther out. In my room, which is above and one room down from the router the signal is too weak to be usable on my phone, but it is good for my computer
I like the thought of the USB port on the router for a simple yet effective NAS storage… but so far it hasn't exactly help up to my expectations (see cons)

Cons: -There is no way to skip the initial setup wizard if you don’t want to use it

-The USB port is essentially useless

My biggest con with this router is the USB port and the EnShare service. I have been unsuccessful thus far with using any type of drive in that port. I attempted to use a 500GB external hard drive, but every time I tried to transfer files it would have a critical error (through FTP) or the device would become disconnected and I would need to reboot the router. The same issue would happen with a thumb drive… Originally I thought that the USB wasn't outputting enough power to the external drive, apparently that is not the case. I was also never able to set up a mapped network drive which would have been very nice. My opinion is that if you are going to market a device with a USB port… you better make sure it works properly. It may be possible that I haven’t configured it properly, or used the correct type of storage device, but after two days of trying to get it to work I’m going to write it off as not up to snuff. It shouldn't be this difficult to get it to work.

Other than that con I can’t really come up with anything that would make me say this is a terrible device. In truth it is quite good.

Other Thoughts: I ran some speedtest.net test to get a feel for the speed:

In the format of Ping, Down, Up

2.4ghz:
16ms, 18.75mbps, 4.19mbps
16ms, 19.65mpbs, 4.18mbps
17ms, 19.52mbps, 4.19mbps

5ghz:
17ms, 33.87mbps, 4.20mbps
17ms, 33.32mbps, 4.19mbps
17ms, 33.79mbps, 4.20mbps

I found it rather weird that there was such a significant speed difference between the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks so I checked it again the next day and found very similar results. Must be some combination of increased data throughput on the 5ghz plus decreased interference?

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none don't buy beware

Cons: after installing it worked very fast after one day it died wont connect to the internet

Other Thoughts: don't buy it died in (1) wont go on the internet

Manufacturer Response:

Dear idarm,

We appreciate your time in posting your comments and feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience.

We understand that you are unable to get internet connection through the ESR600. Perhaps some settings need to be changed to make it work for you. Since you also mentioned that the router “died” do you mean that it does not power on anymore? Rest assured that all EnGenius devices have a 1 year limited warranty from the date of purchase from an authorized reseller. We look forward to getting this issue straightened out right away.

Please allow us to diagnose the problem. You may reach us through our number at 1-888-735-7888 or e-mail us at support@engeniustech.com. Our support team would be glad to be of service to you.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to hearing from you.

2 out of 5 eggsDied rather quickly

Pros: Worked well for about three weeks. Good range and reliable connection.

Cons: Enshare service was kind disappointing and worthless. The router ran hot and died after three weeks. I called customer service and they're supposed to be sending me a box to send it back in. It's been a week or a week and a half and still nothing. So while this router seems like a good buy, I would not be able to recommend it to anyone for fear of it overheating for them as well.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate your time in posting your comments and feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience.

We understand that the ESR600 stopped working after 3 weeks and that you have already contacted EnGenius Customer Support. We assure you that the replacement router will work quite well for you.
