Not lab quality by any means. As others have mentioned, it does not come with software, but I just downloaded it from lighthouses site. It's called Microcapture. Allows you to record video and take jpgs. The base sucks, but you can either secure it or add lead weights to it. As with many digital microscopes, you have to get really close with the lens to be able to focus, but this has a pretty good focal range so you can focus on objects that are further away. Zoom function goes pretty detailed, as you zoom in the focus point is in the center. LED's are bright with on/off switch. Fancy mount. Cons: Software? There was none! CD has just the drivers. Other Thoughts: Online search took me to the manufacture website, there software doesn't work with Windows 7. I have a device and software from Pinnicle call Instant DVD recorder. It can be used as a regular PC camera or webcam. Windows 7 reconized it and loaded the drivers. Cons: No software came with the microscope. So after doing my research found it on the manufacture website. Bad software for Windows 7, doesn't work. Assume software was designed for WinXP. Other Thoughts: Pinnacle Instant DVD Recorder version 2.5 works great with the microscope. The response time is immediate, no lag. Camera works great but not the manufacture software. Focus and magnification control has a nice feel to it, makes it easy to operate. Stand is plenty heavy for it to stand by itself. Cons: Stand mount is a bit on the cheap side. Required a little work with a razor blade for it to mate to the microscope properly.
