4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for the price

Pros: This is a follow-up review from my previous three reviews. I RMA'd the device and got a new one back a few days after they received the broken one. The new one didn't seem to like my PNY brand microSD card, it kept making corrupt videos and showing error when trying to initiate recording. I put in a G.Skill microSD card and have been running that for about two weeks now and it hasn't given me any problems. Yet the PNY microSD card runs fine on my mobile phone.

Anyway the replacement device is working fine so far. I'll post another review if things go haywire.

Cons: - Doesn't like my PNY brand microSD card.
- Very little difference between 1080p and 720p in terms of video quality, stick with the 720p.

1 out of 5 eggsParts missing.

Pros: N/A

Cons: Item seems to have been repackage and sold as new.
The camera see to be new, but there is no manual and cannot mount to windshield, the silicon ring that goes around camera holder/windshield mount is missing.

Other Thoughts: Supplier does not provide phone number.

1 out of 5 eggsDecent when it works, broken now

Pros: This is a follow up of my last two reviews.

Cons: 1080p video looks almost exactly the same as 720p. I did several comparrisons of the same scene, recording video at 720p then stopping the recording and switching to 1080p. I was able to compare them directly, and only a few sections of the picture were better, however overall 720p looked nearly the same as 1080p.

Device now records corrupt video, after the camera shuts off and you go to start recording again, "memory error" shows on the screen and it will not record. I've tried two microSD cards, both work fine in my phone after formatting. The camera is saving corrupt video files.

Other Thoughts: I am going to attempt to RMA this camera.

3 out of 5 eggsHas some issues

Pros: This is a follow up review to my previous on 3/2/2013. Please see that review for more opinion.

Cons: Unreliable
Poor users manual

Other Thoughts: Sometimes the unit just won't turn on. It will get power but doesn't turn on. The power button doesn't work. I remove power cable and try power again. After a minute or so of faffing with it, it will eventually turn on. This has happened to me about 4 times over the last week.

I had a GSkill 16 GB Micro SD class 10 card in it, but it died after a few days. Replaced it with a PNY brand, cant remember if its class 10 or not. I haven't checked the videos yet to see if they are solid, or have skipping or pixelation issues. I'll post another review later.

When the thing works it does a good enough job for $60. I'm a techy so I can hassle with it and try to keep it going, but if you want something solid i'd pay more money for a more high quality brand.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent recorder for the price

Pros: Cheap
OK video quality during daylight
Wide field of view
Easy to use
Starts recording as soon as it gets power
Multiple recording modes

Cons: Does feel a bit cheap, but I think it will be fine
Poor video quality at night
Not a very crisp, quality picture

Other Thoughts: This is a pretty cheap camera so you can't expect a lot... I've been trying it out for the day and my initial impression is that this is a pretty decent camera for the price. I've tried 1920x1080 and 1440x1080, and you certainly get a wider view in the 1920x1080 so I recommend that, or 720p. I haven't tried the 720p yet but I will tomorrow and will report back soon.

The quality is ok, just ok. It's better than 640x480 but it certainly isn't perfectly crisp. You can't read number plates really until you are right up behind a vehicle. You can't read street signs on side roads, but you can sometimes make out the large street signs on traffic light poles. The sides appear a bit fisheye of course with the 140 degree lens, and it is a bit blurry on the sides but it still helps to have a visual there. The framerate is good and smooth and there is no stuttering. There is also no stutter or loss of video when it starts recording to a new file.

Night recording is fairly poor. I couldn't find this "night mode". You can't see very much, just a small patch of light in the center of where my headlamps are aiming. If it is raining then you pretty much wont see the road at all. Otherwise you can see tail lights and faint visuals of vehicles at night. The camera does have to bright white LEDs but this is pretty much pointless in a vehicle.

The camera pretty much runs itself if you plug its power into your cigarette lighter (assuming it only gets power when the vehicle is on). It stops recording and shuts off automatically about 5 seconds after power is turned off. So I just get in my car, start it, and it starts recording on its own and stops when I shut the car off. Pretty nice...

The menus are fairly easy to navigate and options are simple. My only wish is that it had GPS to get your location and time, but setting it manually isn't a big deal.

I'm using a GSkill 16 GB micro SD class 10 and it works perfectly. I figure you don't need a ton of space because if an accident occurs I can take the card out, put it in my phone, and copy the file. I haven't yet figured out how much video it will hold. Watch out when you remove the SD card, the spring in the camera is strong and will shoot it out fast!

That's all I have so far for one day of use, i'll post another later after at least a week of use.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Protects you from insidious drivers performing shortstops.

Cons: No rear view, no GPS integrated into Google maps. No Infrared light.

Other Thoughts: There are other high tech units that have more features. These cost a lot more! These are reliable for a basic unit. Also other drivers leave you alone when you flip the monitor down as they try to cut you off.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: it works.

Cons: I don't know what that guy "8/11/2012 7:43:32 PM" is talking about. 32GB MicroSD does not work with this device. I have purchased 32GB Class 10 MicroSD card from newegg and this device shows memory card error. I shutdown the cam and start it up again and still same error. Then I went to Menu > Menu > Setup > Format > SD Card > OK > OK and formatted the MicroSD card from the device and still no luck.

Then I took out the 32GB MicroSD card from this cam and 16GB MicroSD card from my Android phone and swapped them. Then the cam can use the 16GB MicroSD card from my phone. I had to transfer all my files from my phones 16GB MicroSD to the new 32GB MicroSD. Then plugin the 32GB MicroSD to my phone and booted it up. My Android (Atrix) phone recognized the 32GB MicroSD card and works well with it. Then I had to plugin the 16GB MicroSD to this cam and format it and use it.

The battery does not last as long as I hoped it would.

Other Thoughts: There is a software bug which shows up from time to time. When you try to set the date and time the two events triggers such as "onKeyDown" and "onKeyUP" where only one should trigger. This means if you try to change the month from 2 (February) to 3 (March) then when you press the key down it will change it from 2 to 3 however when you let go of the button then it will trigger again making 3 to 4 (April). So you can never choose and odd number. It will always skip one. I tried to combind keys to avoid it but nothing works. This apply to all keys in date section making it impossible to set the proper date and time.

I tried to download driver or software or update firmware but nothing exist for this thing. Their website has only information about what this car cam is and to but it however they don't have any software or driver for this device. I also search google and still no such luck.

I would not advise you to buy it. With this price range you can find far better.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job.

Pros: Does the job, films well. I have it set at 720P just to save some SD space. 16GB SD seems to hold a few hours worth of footage.

Cons: Battery could last longer, can get about an hour out of it, before I need to plug it into the car 12V socket.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty good!

Pros: It's pretty nice. It's smaller than my cell phone so I can put it up behind my review mirror and drop down the monitor to see the view. The video and audio quality is great as well!

Cons: It feels cheap.
