5 out of 5 eggsThis item works !

Pros: nice packaging
easy to install HDD on the unit
it fits very well in 2012 MacBook pro 13.

Cons: Two screw-hole supports which securing the unit in the laptop are just a little bit bigger than ones on the SuperDrive. This makes putting the unit in the optical drive space tricky.

4 out of 5 eggs2012 Macbook Pro

Pros: It works with any Sata II connection. So basically any spinning hard drive, or Sata II SSD is going to work with this caddy. It also fits very well into the optical drive slot.

Cons: It doesn't work with Sata III.

4 out of 5 eggsTight Fit...but Works fine 2012 MBP 15in

Pros: Fits like a glove, works perfectly in new 2012 MBP 15in. Its a little tight but works fine. No issues at all....about all I can say, its a drive adapter. :)

Cons: It fits like a glove. Just take your time and put it in the machine slowly and watch out for the wifi wires towards the back near the corner....very close!!

Other Thoughts: Now I have an a Sandisk Extreme SSD + Data storage in single machine. Cant beat that!! Never used a CDROM drive anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked on MBP 2009

Pros: As advertised- I took out my superdrive and put this in it's place. Voila! Now my macbook has a SSD as well as HDD.

There are a few articles online showing this procedure- one thing that I found CRITICAL was that you put your original HDD in the superdrive slot and the SDD in the original HDD slot- the MBP won't check superdrive slot first when computer sleeps.

Cons: No instructions - but I figured it out without any problems.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend if you want to add a SSD to your macbook pro uni-body.

5 out of 5 eggsInexpensive solution that works

Pros: Low cost
Lightweight
Does what it claims it does

Cons: Not much documentation - has some basic steps imprinted on the device, but nothing else. This product is simple, but the steps to remove the tiny screws in your Mac and put things back together in the right places is a little bit of a challenge. There is a small anchor tab that needs to be removed from the SuperDrive and re-attached to your drive caddy and nothing about this is documented. It appears to be part of the SuperDrive and isn't obvious that it needs to be removed but without it your drive will not be secure.

Other Thoughts: I was curious to see the quality of this drive caddy given that the competitor product was about 3x the price of this one. It's a simple solution with no moving parts so I figured it would be fine. So far it's been great and I have had no issues.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking perfect for MBP 17" (late 2011)

Pros: Super fast. My Applications are sitting on the SSD; they run about as fast as I can click to launch them. Parallels can cold boot a Windows 7 VM (on the SSD) in about 5 seconds (literally).

Cons: There's some headache setting up TRIM for non-Apple hardware. But really it's about as simple as downloading an app and flipping a toggle to enable it for third party devices.

Other Thoughts: The other hang up, naturally, is conserving space on the expensive drive. This one is large enough to run all your downloads, music, games, etc, but I bought a caddy and moved my 750G to the DVD bay. I setup symbolic links for Downloads, Music, Movies, Pictures and a Parallels VM area. Those directories don't really need a lot of performance and are used mostly just for storage. I did want most of my Home directory on the SSD though because of the ~/Library directory and other smaller documents that will keep things running fast. I also put the rest of the system including /Applications on the SSD. This is what you're paying for. I can boot Mac in about 10 seconds from a cold stop. My VM's on the old HDD still run the same as usual. I highly recommend this upgrade in combination with the drive caddy.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I bought this for my new SSD. I never use my DVD drive, so this is perfect. It's sturdy, light weight, fits well and was way cheaper than other solutions.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Fast shipping. Ordered on a Friday, arrived on Monday. I'm still waiting for NewEgg to ship the SSD.
