3 out of 5 eggsWorks and the price is right

Pros: The hardware works pretty much as described. The surrounding LED lights provide enough illumination for the camera and are adjustable for bightness at the USB connector.

The software is adequate to capture video and permits the space for the video to be limited.

Cons: The software, at least for Win 7 and up, is rudimentary. It does not work on a Linux system if that matters to you. You receive a copy of a bare and dated Microsoft driver, (amcap.exe). No installation or registration. Make a shortcut or just leave it on your desktop.

There is no indication when you have overrun the video filespace limits you set before deploying the camera.

The pot that controls the LED illumination does not produce a linear response. Things are dim for most of its travel and then very bright.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried it in a wet environment and so cannot testify to the degree of water resistance. It is handy for inspecting dim recesses, wire chases, and the like. The metal camera enclosure is about 2.5" long and will limit the radius the camera will pass. You won't be running it through the typical P-trap in your sink but it will pass a 90deg bend in 1.25" schedule 80 pipe.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed by Imagestore

Pros: Hard to believe they can make a profit given the sale price. Works great at the price point.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I am aslo impressed by the customer serice at image store. I first received a factory defect, a bit of adhesive had gotten on the lens making it blurry. Hey it can happen. Contacted Image store via this site. They responded within 24 hours and sent me a replacement with no shipping charge to me. All vendors should be this good!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in FreeBSD/LInux!

Pros: The 4 LEDs surrounding the lens are very bright (once you remember the brightness control dial on the USB plug). I was worried about FreeBSD-11 detecting it, but it works out-of-the-box for me with cuse(4) and port multimedia/webcamd installed and should work fine with Linux V4L2.

USB VendorID:ProductID are 1b71:0123. FreeBSD identifies device as "USB PRY Camera Alcor Micro, Corp.". webcamd(8), a port of V4L to FreeBSD, identifies device as a "UVC PRY camera" (uvc(4).

Picture is good if there's enough light; in low-light or with the LEDs turned down, you can't see much of anything. The close-up resolution is pretty good; I noticed several small black dots on the skin on the tip of my nose I can't even see with my naked eye. I've looked at the inner surfaces of my teeth, the back of my throat and my sinuses, although the documentation warns the camera is not for medical purposes.

Cons: It would be useful if the camera head had a marking on it indicating "UP"; I have to rotate the camera while looking at the video output to get a right-side-up picture.

Other Thoughts: The camera head appears to be stainless steel or similar with a clear plastic cap covering the LEDs and lens. There's something like hot glue or adhesive where the cable enters the head. This description is in case you're thinking about sticking this in some body opening (which I am not recommending).

1 out of 5 eggsNot a good camera

Pros: None to speak of

Cons: I have been buying from New Egg for over 15 years. A GREAT place to buy, in the past I had a few issues here or there with products, very very minimal, New Egg wasted no time at all replacing them, fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

So what I am about to say is not about new egg, but this product. This is the worst piece of Junk I have ever worked with.
The camera had 3 cracks in the lens when I got it. Big blurred spot on one of the LED's also.

The CD with it was non readable. I went to the website, to download the drivers, when you click on the drivers for the usb camera, nothing works, no drivers come up. WORST WEBSITE IN THE WORLD. How can you put a drivers download website, that does not response when you click on drivers for the product? The cable on it is very flimsy, first obstruction you hit, you can not push it any further. Will never ever ever buy another product from this camera company again and I intend to return it ASAP.
New Egg, thank you for your wonderful service for the past 15years, but this product is just not up to par.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent camera for the price

Pros: Camera works as advertised. I was able to connect it to my laptop and use it without depending on the driver on the CD. Included light was very helpful when working in tight place where it was hard to fit a flashlight with the camera.

Cons: No zoom.
Only SD quality in a HD era.

Other Thoughts: Read the specs and knew what I was getting. I still wished it had better resolution and the ability to zoom, but then I would be paying a lot more. Like I said in the title, decent camera for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsA useful tool

Pros: This is a great tool. It really gets into those tight areas where you cant see. Picture is great for the resolution. The lights are decent but not intended to light up a room. Have not tried it in water so I can not detail whether it is waterproof. By the looks of it, I would say water resistant and not intended to be submerged for a short length of time.

Cons: Works well so far.
