4 out of 5 eggsVery nice and better than average

Pros: excellent Realtek hardware and Windows 8.1 driver, fast connection and disconnection, solid construction

Cons: stiff cable, short cable

Other Thoughts: For me, the cable difficult to use my situations. It's either too long (and stiff) or too short. I have it dangling over the edge of desktop and the stiffness does seem to put too much of a bend in the cable (with is a good thing). The gigabit speed have been really good (60Mbps) with a keyboard, mouse, and a point-and-shoot camera attached.

5 out of 5 eggsPlug & Play, works OK

Pros: I connected this to the front USB3 port on my tower PC (Asus P8Z77 mobo with a 3770K cpu) and within 15 seconds Win7 had downloaded and installed all the drivers, including the Ethernet driver. Couldn't have been easier.

I have an older C2Q machine in the same room, connected via 802.11b Wi-Fi to the network, so file transfers between the two machines is seriously slow for large files. The gigabit Ethernet-to-USB3 connection speeds it up tremendously, even compared to a wired connection via the Verizon gateway which for some reason is limited to 100 Mbps. This is much more convenient as well since I don't need to unplug cables from the back of the tower, roll it out and then plug an Ethernet cable into the port on the back. Not that I do daily file transfers, but still convenient and fast.

Since my monitor doesn't have a USB hub built-in, I'll probably wind up using this as a hub for plugging in my HD video camera as well as an HD webcam for videoconferencing. My computer desk is L-shaped with the tower on the far side, so stringing cables everywhere is not an option.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Ethernet indicator lights would be handy to make sure connection is established.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No noticed USB 3.0 lag
No noticed Ethernet lag
Simple Idea
Portable

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Purchased this because my new laptop did not have a built in Ethernet port. The three USB ports are nice, and the price is right. I highly recommend this.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Convenient
Portable

Cons: No indicator lights

Other Thoughts: Once I got the driver installed it worked like a champ. I used it on my corporate LAN with no issues. The real test for me will be when I go offsite to a client and use their network. My other adapter doesn't work, so we'll see if this one does.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well--great value!

Pros: I am using this adapter with a MacBook Pro 10,1 i7 running 10.9.2. I tested the adapter with iperf over a gigabit network through an unmanaged switch to another MacBook Pro and averaged 941 Mbits/sec which is fairly decent. I ran the AJA Disk Read test on a 2.5" USB3 Seagate drive acting as my Time Machine drive and averaged 104.2 MB/sec which indicated decent USB3 performance. I've been using the device for ~2 weeks and have had no issues with it whatsoever.

Construction wise, the cable appears to be strong and is strain-relieved on both ends. The adapter part of the device is a little large, but as a multi-purpose device, I think it ends up saving room in my laptop bag.

Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

Cons: N/A

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for MS Surface Pro

Pros: - Light but solid construction
- Does what it says

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: Plug and play with the MS Surface Pro, no problem. I did notice that my bluetooth dongle for remote keyboard and mouse didn't work with the unit when plugged into the power supply USB port, but works fine through the single tablet side USB (dongle won't work plugged directly into power supply anyhow, so issue is with Surface Pro). I haven't had occasion to check the LAN port since practically everything is wireless now, but it's nice to have as a backup.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat plug and play usb hub+ethernet

Pros: Plug and play. No drivers needed on Windows 8.1 Pro. Bought for my Surface Pro 2 tablet and this makes it much easier for me not only connect more usb devices but also the gigabit Ethernet. I connected a USB tv tuner, mouse receiver, and flash drive at the same time and I had no problems.

Cons: Nothing major so far, but I do wish it had link lights on the Ethernet jack as they would be very useful for testing network jacks at work.

1 out of 5 eggsCompatibility Problems

Pros: It is a good idea.

Cons: It DOES NOT work with my USB 3 port on my (Yoga 2) laptop; it works intermittently on my USB 2 port. Tried to reinstall the driver but it did not work either. If tech support can not resolve the problem, then I will return it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well but not perfect for desktop

Pros: I have used this device with two of my laptops; one on windows 7 and the other on windows 8. Both OS recognized the device right away. I connected a smartphone, a USB video camera, and a photo camera. I was able to access all three of them successfully and the data transfer for my pictures and video were great. The cable that came with the device is short. The device is compact. Therefore, it is very portable and convenient.

Cons: The primary issue would be the cable that comes with the device. It is perfect for the laptop. However, it is not suitable for a desktop.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate from previous post on 12/16/2013 6:45:52 PM

Pros: I previously rated this item with one star. After finding out what went wrong, I take that back and give this device a Four-Star "Egg" rating today. :)

Having updated my motherboard's BIOS (an ASUS P8Z77-I), the HT-UE01 USB3 Hub and LAN adapter worked exceptionally well with "USB3" connectivity.

I bench tested two different external hard drives last night with the HooToo HT-UE01 -

*the first HDD, an 3TB HDD had a whopping sustained transfer rate of 160MB/s read and write

*the second hard drive however, was limited by the internal buffer, but even still, I was able to achieve a sustained 110MB/s transfer rate using the same 8Gig file

Now with the LAN Connectivity -

Transfer rate between two pc's using the Gigabit Ethernet LAN port was in excess of 760Mbit/s as data passed through my Netgear, Nighthawk AC1900 router. So essentially, there was nothing wrong with this adapter. I highly recommend it.

Cons: It doesn't have any LED lights on the Network Port to tell you if the LAN is operational

Other Thoughts: If you're having trouble getting this device to work properly with an ASUS P8Z77-I motherboard, I encourage you to update the BIOS to the latest release for 'enhanced' USB 3.0 connectivity.
