Pros: great camera, excellent pictures, great details. you do not need flash all the time.
Cons: Slow, Macro = no macro, very poor macro.
Other Thoughts: I replace G10, but didn't get much more. Camera is bigger and heavier.

Rating: 4/5Unmatched Image Quality Compact
Pros: Big sensor, great lens, good high ISO performance
Cons: Poor lens accessory mounting, big and heavy for a "compact"
Other Thoughts: This camera combines a big sensor (18.7 X14 mm) and a with a 4X zoom lens to match. The lens covers the 35mm equivalent focal range of 28–112 mm. There really is nothing like it on the market. Even though the lens is superficially "slow", the low-noise performance of the big sensor makes up for this. The "high quality" jpg performance is good enough to make "RAW" manipulation unnecessary. I am completely satisfied with the image quality. I have to emphasize the sensor/lens combo. It is squarely in the best "APS-C" category. The 6-13mm wide sensor you find in other fixed lens compacts is simply too noisy in all but the best light. The only fixed lens competitor in image quality would be the Sony RX-1 compact with the full frame sensor, but it has a fixed focal length lens, no view finder, a fixed back panel display and a huge price. I demand a camera have a swing out LCD screen like this one. This type of "viewfinder" allows you to hold the camera where it needs to be, rather than close to your face. I use it with the camera held up over crowds to get a better angle on the subject, as one example. The camera has an "after thought" plastic bayonet mount for accessories. This makes using a polarizer or gradient density accessory awkward. It also does NOT focus close. This is not a huge drawback, because you can crop the pictures it does take a lot without much quality loss. But it's not the camera to choose if you want to take high quality snaps of postage stamps, bugs or anything small. I do this more often than most, so it's the most annoying feature of the camera for me.
