LEGO The Lord of the Rings is based on The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy, following the original storylines of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It takes players through the epic story events reimagined with the humor and endless variety of LEGO play. Frodo is trusted with the dangerous task to destroy an ancient magical ring that threatens all that is good and he was forced to leave his peaceful home. But the ring wants to be found and the road to Mount Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed, will be perilous and riddled with Orcs and fouler things. To help Frodo, a Fellowship is formed - Aragorn the Ranger, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir a Man of Gondor, and Frodo's Hobbit friends Sam, Merry and Pippin. Players relive the legend through the LEGO minifigures, as they explore wonders, solve timeless riddles, and overcome endless foes in their quest to destroy the Ring.
Lego Lock-Up of the Rings
This review is from: LEGO Lord of the Rings Playstation3 Game
Pros: As usual, TT has created another beautiful Lego title. It has a familiar feel to previous games, but has slight changes in how to acquire bricks and other items. It does not take long to adjust to these changes. They have done a respectable job in mapping out Tolkien's world.
Cons: This game is full of glitches. I would hold off on playing it until TT releases patches through the Playstation Network. There are items that you can walk through and not collect. There are frequent lock-ups. I have had my PS3 lock up an average of every 30-45 minutes while playing, requiring a full system reboot. Having experienced this on some previous TT Lego titles (but not at this high frequency), it probably means I will have to start the game over from the beginning in order to complete it. Even though the game will show you have collected all of the treasure chests, one or two will invariably be missed in the total count due to the lock-ups.
Other Thoughts: The Lego series of games are some of my favorites, but TT needs to do a better job of testing them on all platforms before general release. I don't know why I bother buying and playing them at initial release, because I know I will have to start over from the beginning after the bugs have been fixed.
