5 out of 5 eggsYes, it's properly designed

Pros: I benchtested this unit to clear up some misinformation in earlier comments. First, with a 5-ohm load it delivered 910mA at 4.8v, so anyone claiming this charger will not deliver more than 500mA is flat wrong. The charger determines the maximum current available, but it's the phone that decides how much of that to draw. If you're not getting more than 400-500mA, it's not the charger's fault, so troubleshoot your phone and/or cable.

Second, the USB "dedicated charger" spec says the two data lines should be shorted together to signify "AC charger" mode and allow the higher current draw. I tried two different android phones and both correctly showed "Charging (AC)" instead of the slower "Charging (USB)". Perhaps there were earlier versions of this charger that may have been different, but my unit is properly wired as is. I even tried manually shorting the two data lines under several scenarios just to check, and as expected there was no change whatsoever in current draw. It's properly wired without special surgery.

Note your charging cable can make a big difference. With the stock 5-ft Samsung USB cable the phone drew 610mA at 4.9v, but with a generic aftermarket cable I measured 750mA at 4.8v. The aftermarket cable was half as long and had thicker wires. Both measurements are roughly consistent with the AC charger that came with the phone, which supplied 650mA at 5.0v and 850mA at 5.0v with the same two cables.

Note the phone's charging algorithm can also make a difference. The above measurements were with a battery 10% charged. when the battery was 80% charged the current draw never seemed to exceed 400-450mA under any conditions. (Of course, your phone may use a different algorithm.)

Bottom line is this charger seems to do what it's supposed to.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My Garmin GPS goes into PC mode when connected to this charger. That's not the charger's fault, though--Garmin uses a connector with a proprietary voltage divider on the X-pin to designate charging mode. Normal mini-USB cables have no connection to the X-pin, which Garmin interprets to be PC mode.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from it.

Pros: None, it didn't work.

Cons: Dead on arrival. Only the red LED would lit. Neither of the outputs would charge my phone. Tried with two different USB cables to discard they were damaged.

Other Thoughts: It's so cheap, there's no way I can return this. Will open it in order to see if it's repairable.

5 out of 5 eggsNice car charger

Pros: Small, high capacity (2.1 amp) charging is a plus. Works good for people who have a ton of different things they might want to charge in the car. Just pair it with the right kind of USB cable (also readily available here on Newegg) and you're ready to go.

Cons: None. Contrary to what some have said here, I didn't have any problems getting it in/out of the socket in the car.

2 out of 5 eggsKills WiFi signal.

Pros: Very nice case, screen protector a sweet plus. Does not make the phone look too bulky.

Cons: Only one, which is why I gave two eggs. When my iPhone 5 is in the case I have no WiFi signals in public areas. At home I have to stand 5 feet away from my router to catch a signal. It's a shame because it really is a nice case.

Other Thoughts: Will write to the company and attempt to get credit towards another case or a refund.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great, but fits too tightly in power port

Pros: Works great when you and a loved one both want to charge your phones on the go but only have one power port available. We've tried both USB ports simultaneously and it charges our phones just as quickly as a standard 1 port adapter.

Cons: This adapter fits into the power socket very snuggly. It has only about 1/4 of an inch of lip on two sides with which to extract it. If your socket is hard to get to (like inside an armrest storage area) or has other stuff next to it that would keep you from getting your fingers around the lip, that will make it exceedingly hard to extract when you're done.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it says on the tin

Pros: It's a charger. It's cheap. It fits 2 USB cables. It lights up.

Cons: It is definitely large. It fits in my Nissan Frontier just fine, but in my dad's Mercury Sable, it is quite difficult to remove. There is definitely substance to this criticism.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not waste the money

Pros: 2 USB ports.

Cons: They are so short they are flush with the auto's power jack and difficult to remove.
Most cars will feed power to this device and run down the car battery power.
The only way to see if there is power is a red led inside. Howerver, once you put the USB in the port you cannot see if power is on and the car battery will drain.

Other Thoughts: They could not give one more inch of plastic to make it easier to remove? What would the added cost be 5 or 6 cents.

2 out of 5 eggsNot as advertised

Pros: It works (slowly), looks good, and it's small.

Cons: I have two of these and they charge Android devices VERY slowly. It's definitely slower than an average .5 amp charger. I shorted the center pins on one of the chargers, so it would be recognized as an AC charger, but there was no difference in charge rate. The phones see it as an AC charger now, but there is a clear limitation of charge rate. I previously had a Scythe 1 amp charger that would run circles around this charger, and it was not modded.

Other Thoughts: Some people's reviews here claim they are getting the full amp. They must be mistaken. Maybe they assume that since they modded it, it would charge at a full amp, but this unit cant even achieve a half amp, so the mod will make no difference.

This will keep the average android device from going dead in your car while you are using GPS navigation, but the charge is VERY slow. If you want the full amp, I recommend rolling the dice on another charger.
