5 out of 5 eggsAn MRAP of a UFD

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-16GB

Pros: Read and write speeds are in line with what is claimed, which means this is kind of pokey for a USB 3.0 flash drive. However, the construction appears to be as solid as claimed. I use it as an encrypted TrueCrypt volume, and performance is adequate for this purpose.

Cons: No attachment point for a lanyard or keychain. However, this device is significantly bigger than a standard UFD, and it doesn't really need a lanyard or fob to "stay found."

Other Thoughts: Purchased as an "off site backup device" that lives with the loose change in my car. So far, it has tolerated the vibration and temperature extremes of this environment just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-16GB

Pros: Best flash drive i've ever used. Holds all my music. Dropped it countless times, haven't dropped it in water but by the looks of it, I think it'll survive :p.

Cons: I guess its kind of clunky and kind of heavy. Not worth taking off and egg though, fits well with car keys.

Other Thoughts: Put a shoe string on it, can take it anywhere and have all my music and some movies.

5 out of 5 eggsWeapon's Grade USB Drive

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-16GB

Pros: High capacity (16GB of goodness), 3.0 USB is quick and fast. You can immediately notice the difference between a normal 2.0 and this 3.0. Screw in cap has a rubber washer so it's weatherproof, meaning, liquids will not get in.

Cons: It's bulky and heavy. Not really great to attach to your keys and have it in your pockets. If you have a lanyard, you can feel it hanging off your pants or neck, however you use it. The fast uploading/downloading speed is only good if you connect to computers that has the blue 3.0 USB port. Regular USB ports will only read it at normal 2.0 speeds. The bulky body of the drive can lead you *snapping* the connector right off if you kick, step, or hit it while it's plugged it in your computer. This hasn't happened to me but considering it did with my normal slim one, it can happen so be careful.

Other Thoughts: When it's plugged into the blue USB 3.0 port, the speed is pretty fast. It's like a mini SSD drive. Make sure your motherboard has the drive installed because you won't get the fast speeds if the driver isn't installed. I realized this when I first plugged it in and only got mediocre speeds. After installing the driver, the speed increased 4x over. Definitely worth it

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-16GB

Pros: Love this flash drive. Fast on USB 2.0 and 3.0, plenty of space. Some may consider a negative but this thing is hefty. It just feels well built in your hand. I would highly recommend this and will definitely buy another one.

Cons: None so far, some may consider it annoying to unscrew before every use, I appreciate the waterproof functionality.

Other Thoughts: Love it. Well built. High Quality.

1 out of 5 eggsSlowest storage device I own

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-16GB

Pros: Looks good in its aluminum case. You'd probably have to run it over with a car to damage it.

Cons: This is the slowest storage device I have ever owned. My Crucial and Patriot USB 2.0 flash drives are so much faster than this Corsair unit. Even my old WDC IDE MyBook running USB 2.0 is faster.

I have used this on multiple USB 3.0 ports and it is always slow, while other USB 3.0 devices (external hard drives) work as fast as they should.

I just copied 300 KB and it took about a minute.

Other Thoughts: I think I will remove the guts from the case and use it as a waterproof case. The Corsair labels are just stickers, so I can remove them and not be reminded of how bad the product was. Too bad I am not a Boy Scout anymore, as it would keep matches dry. Maybe I will store a small quantity of aspirin or something like that in it.
