4 out of 5 eggsNice Bargain SSD

This review is from: SanDisk SDSSDP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Excellent performance at an econo SSD price point. I have had good luck using these SSD drives to upgrade older desktops and laptops that need a boost in the HDD department. Typically raises the Windows 7 benchmark disk test from 5.9 to 7+ range. Boot times are also greatly reduced.

Cons: Does not come with the cool software that Sam$ung offers, but it doesn't have their higher price either.

Other Thoughts: I recently had an older M$I desktop mainboard that the BIOS could see the SSD drive, but Windows 7 Pro 64-bit could not boot from it. I had to turn-off the UEFI+ legacy compatibility mode in the BIOS and have it operate in UEFI mode only. I also had to unplug the SATA cable for a WD SATA HDD data disk on another SATA port. Then Win7 was able to boot off the new SSD drive. I don't think this had anything to do with the Sandisk SSD. More likely a Windows/BIOS issue. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Deal!

This review is from: SanDisk SDSSDP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Threw the drive in, already had my Windows 8.1 flash-drive ready to go, and Windows installed in about 6 minutes and my laptop starts up and is usable in 16 seconds.

I bought this SSD on sale at $47.99, and at this price it's a great deal, especially for gaming notebooks that for some awful reason think that it's still Okay to sell high-end gaming notebooks with 5400 rpm mechanical disk drives.

(I'm looking at you Asus ROG! haha)

Cons: Absolutely no Cons.

Other Thoughts: Shipping was crazy fast. I paid for 3 day ($1.99) and the expedited handling ($2.99) and it literally came the next day.

This is the third SanDisk SSD I've bought, (2- 128GB SSD's, and 1- 256 GB) and I have NEVER had an issue with them. I also own a Mushkin m-Sata SSD for my Son's gaming notebook, and it's great as well.

The only thing you have to worry about in my opinion is getting a DoA, I've never had that issue but I hear Newegg is very good about fixing it promptly. That's just the luck of the draw though unfortunately.

1 out of 5 eggsMore bait

This review is from: SanDisk SDSSDP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Sometimes lowish price for pretty weak performance

Cons: Another in a long list of manufacturers more eager to get sales based on hype, not good products. Note the "internal testing" disclaimer. Part of the reason you can't duplicate the speeds advertised is the 1MB = 1 million bytes ploy. Of course reputable benchmarks won't use a non-standard measure to inflate numbers or use highly compressible data for Sandforce controllers. That's why there's no mention of the benchmark used here. You'll need additional research to determine whether this product is what you want, but maybe you'll just move on from manufacturers trying to deceive you.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi

My name is Rocky from SanDisk support. The speed of the SSD depends upon different factors. The SanDisk SSDs are designed to deliver optimum performance when connected to a SATA III 6Gb/s interface . However they are fully backward compatible with the SATA II (3Gb/s) interfaces and SATA I (1.5Gb/s) interfaces as well. Being connected to a slower interface, the performance speeds of the SSD will be limited to the lower SATA II or SATA I interface capabilities. The SanDisk has performance speeds upto 475MB/s (Read) and 375MB/s (Write), which is the optimum performance delivered in the most favourable conditions. We would also suggest you to run a test using a benchmarking software such as CrystalDiskMark to obtain the actual performances of the drive.

Also, The mentioned 1MB (Mega Byte) = 1 million bytes is relation to the device capacity not the performance.

For further assistance, please contact SanDisk support at 1-866-SanDisk (726-3475) or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com/support .

Thank you,
SanDisk Support.
