5 out of 5 eggsworks as advertised

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Ditto the other five star reviews. Works well on win7, and GNU/Linux system with USB 2.0 ports. Speeds are what I would expect for USB 2.0. Sturdy construction, but see below.

Cons: The cover is a bit hard to slide on and off, but that's better than having it come off, or have the connector be uncovered with the slightest touch. The cover doesn't protect the connector entirely, leaving a hole at the top. This shouldn't be a problem though.

Other Thoughts: Though the construction is sturdy, the part where you would put a key ring through is on a corner, where the drive's long sides meet. It would likely take a lot of pulling with quite a bit of force, but I could see a situation where that corner comes apart, and the drive falls off the key ring.

5 out of 5 eggsError Free & Fast

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Formatting with NTFS and running chkdsk with the scan option set revealed no errors. My diagnostic wrote 125,460,889,600 bytes of zeros in 117 files in 23:08.376 for 90,365,210.577 MBs. The files were verified w/o errors in 15:31.770 for 134.647 MBs. The latter figure is a little inflated because the last few files were still in memory and showed a read speed of over 300 MBs.

Cons: None so far. All three pen drives bought a few years ago failed after a year or two. Two of those were used for transporting files from one computer to another, and one had memtest 86+ on it. Memtest 86+ on that one won't load any more. None of the three was made by PNY.

5 out of 5 eggsPNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: One pro is that you can't lose the top/cap, nice design.

Tested this device using good 'ol dd in Linux.
When drive is not formatted (raw) you get about 150MB/s writes, with a file system on it you get the following:

$dd if=/dev/zero of=/run/media/axel/USB30FD/delet-file count=1024 blocksize=2M oflag=direct
1024+0 records in
1024+0 records out
2147483648 bytes (2.1 GB) copied, 22.3992 s, 95.9 MB/s

Note the option oflag, this option makes you bi-pass the kernel caching thus writing directly to the device.

95MB/s to 97MB/s consistently. A large ISO about 3.5GB on size achieved speeds of 117MB using rsync, keep in mind a copy or sync utilizes kernel caching mechanisms that include putting the file on memory before writing to disk giving the impression that is done at better speeds.

Cons: None I can think of.
By the way newegg posting 'proof', can abrevitate block size, it thinks you are saying b and s (stands for BLOCK SIZE).

Other Thoughts: I got it under $34, not bad for a USB 3.0 128GB thumb drive. Good drive for the price!

5 out of 5 eggsPNY USB 3.0 Turbo Flash Drive

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Love the size and the speed! Also the housing feels durable so that it won't break easily.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It went on sale and newegg, instead of price adjusting, sent me a gift card for $15. That was nice of them!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome USB3 drive. Best bang! super fast

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: This was the fastest USB drive I've used until the recent Sandisk Extreme Pro, and it still doesn't trail by much. I have several of these and they are awesome and unbeatable. I will get more of these. it's good to see PNY has really come along and has surpassed the competition

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsOverall A Good Purchase

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Fastest transfer rates and reliability for the cost, which I paid about $57 in total for the 128GB version, Great for Mac, USB 2.0, 3.0 and everything else. Contacting PNY directly they warrantied the item after 5 months of ownership.

Cons: Product slowed after 4 months of ownership, then died at 5 months. So make sure you only keep temporary data or transfer data on this drive. Contacting PNY directly, all I had to do was pay under $5 for shipping and they are sending me a new one.

Other Thoughts: Despite the product failure, the manufacturer sent me a new USB drive which is more than I can say for many of the companies out there today. For the total price of $63 this is still a good deal. This isn't the first USB flash drive failure I have had, but this is the first manufacturer to replace the product.

3 out of 5 eggsTest it as soon as you get it

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Price was right. Fast shipping by Newegg. PNY did honor their warranty. First unit worked fine on USB 2.0. On USB 3.0, small files okay, large files failed to write. (See Cons.)

Cons: I didn't actually get around to testing it until after the 30-day Newegg return period had elapsed. My bad.

First drive failed CrystalDiskMark write test USB 3.0. In USB 2.0 it worked fine as a USB 2.0 flash drive, both small and large files.

The PNA RMA website didn't work, and leaving callback messages never got returned. Newegg chat support got through to them and PNY finally contacted me. RMA went smoothly.

Replacement flash drive works fine, but speeds are nowhere near as advertised, 190MB read, 130MB write.
Actual speeds are closer to 117MB read and 100MB write. Results were similar on two machines, front and back ports. Test results below:

Other Thoughts: Test the drive as soon as you get it. The CrystalDiskMark program is free.

PNY support needs work. If you can't get through, chat with Newegg support and they will contact them on your behalf.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: I tested it transferring a 13.3gb file. in a usb2 port it took 13min 14 sec and in a usb3 port it took 9min 18 sec. As expected the 128gb unformatted ends up to be 116gb formatted. I am pleased with this drive It works to my satisfaction.I, as everyone, wiuld like it to be faster.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: I got 3 of them & they been working great. I can put over 120 movies on each one, then put it in the headrest in the car to see the movies. Every movie plays like it was playing from a DVD. So now I don't have to have DVD's in the car anymore. I will be buying more to put more movies on it.

Cons: The price is a little high.

1 out of 5 eggsFast When It works

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: -Fast Transfer
-Large Capacity

Cons: -Sometimes Windows 8.1 64-bit cannot read it
-Windows keeps having to repair it
-When I insert it into usb 3.0 slot it glitches the system

Other Thoughts: Out of the package I had read issues with this thing. Hoping it was a driver issue and not the drive itself. Also have the 32Gb version of this and have no issues with that one.

Nothing but read issues with this one. I would say stay away from it.

I just use this drive to store movies on my WD player.

I did not purchase from newegg or I would have already RMA'd it. Purchased from a store that sounds like Maples.
