1 out of 5 eggsWorked for about a month

This review is from: Kingston 32GB DataTraveler Generation 4 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (DTIG4/32GB)

Pros: -Worked fine while it lasted.
-Write speeds between 20 and 30 MBps.

Cons: Write speeds fluctuated between 20 and 30 MBps out the box. After only about a month, it got very hot after plugging it in for a few seconds, and then suddenly stopped working altogether.

Other Thoughts: I should have seen the fluctuating speeds as a warning sign, and returned for a replacement right away, when I could still have dealt with Newegg directly.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Thumb Drive

This review is from: Kingston 32GB DataTraveler Generation 4 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (DTIG4/32GB)

Pros: Works great and fast when connected to USB 3.0

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Kingston has never let me down from Thumb Drives to PC memory. I have a Kingston USB thumb drive that is almost 10 years old and is a 512 MB drive and it still works great. I would buy Kingston products again

5 out of 5 eggsGood product, decent speed

This review is from: Kingston 32GB DataTraveler Generation 4 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (DTIG4/32GB)

Pros: The size and speed are good for the price, very useful for older machines that I own.

Cons: Wished the formatting took less space, roughly three gigabytes are wasted and cannot be used.

Other Thoughts: Good product, even better if you can get it on sale. The speeds on older machines are decent but used with an actual usb 3.0 connection it's actually quiet good.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks on USB3 - very slowly

This review is from: Kingston 32GB DataTraveler Generation 4 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (DTIG4/32GB)

Pros: 7.9 GB of error free flash memory

Cons: Runs at USB 2.0 speeds. Using HDTune Pro 5.5, I got the following speeds on a Win 8.1 Core i7 machine with USB 3.0 connections:

Read: 30 MBps
Write: 9 MBps
4KB File IO: 1100 IOPS

These rates are typical of a USB2 flash drive.

For the skeptical, I have measured a 16 GB Team USB3.0 flash drive in the same port that had 4 to 10 times the above rates. So the test was not computer port limited.

Other Thoughts: This unit looks like USB 2.0 speed flash memory parts that have just been configured to operate on a USB 3.0 port. Too had Newegg does not have a way to show the HD Tune Pro graphs. Looks like video is the rage now.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer some clarification. The DTIG4 is an entry-level USB 3.0 drive and should perform around 10MB/s write as you indicated. If you are looking for a high performance drive, please consider one of our USB 3.0 performance drives, such as the DTHX30 which offer 135MB/s write speed. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
