5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: It is working good so far. Product is exactly as advertised.

Cons: None so far. No choice on color but I can deal with yellow.

Other Thoughts: The actual formatted capacity of the 8GB is something like 7.2 GB.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Fast & cheap

Cons: I use this drive to load software on multiple computers. The problem is that it’s too fat to fit in some ports and I have to unplug other things to make it fit.

5 out of 5 eggsusb 3 flash drives

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: made for storing data

Cons: won't work for a drive to load windows 7

Other Thoughts: the windows 7 operating system neither has or understands anything that is usb 3. The technology was not built into windows 7. so quit whining

2 out of 5 eggsDo not buy for Windows 7 USB installer!

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Cheap, shape and key ring nice for the job I wanted it to do.

Cons: Cannot use this drive as a Windows 7 installer.
Low read/write speeds for USB 3.

Other Thoughts: I should have read the reviews closer before buying - Michael L. is correct in that nothing makes these things work as a Windows 7 USB installer. That was the whole purpose I bought these. Just because the item is not intended for that purpose doesn't mean it shouldn't work like every other one on the market.

5 out of 5 eggsKingston DataTraveler Gen 4

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Just opened the package today and haven't used them. Look great; should work just fine.

Cons: Haven't noticed anything obvious.

Other Thoughts: I totally misread the description. I thought I was getting 4 8GB drives. Instead they're Generation 4 drives, 8GB each. Could have gotten 8GB drives cheaper at Office Depot since I was simply looking for some cheap drives to use when giving data to friends! My dumb!!!

4 out of 5 eggsAlright

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: This is the cheapest 8GB USB you're going to find, Kingston being a pretty well known name. The build quality is nice. They feel very solid. I've ordered 4 of them and they all work flawlessly.

Cons: I know USB Flash Drives aren't usually the exact size they say in the description. These ones however are way off. Apparently their idea of 8GB is 7.2GB.. I was very disappointed in where the heck 0.8GB of storage went. The title of the USB didn't say Kingston DataTraveler G4 7.2GB it said it had 8GB!

2 out of 5 eggsIt works... with an exception...

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Stores files. Portable. Moves data.

Cons: Doesn't move files at USB 3.0 speeds..
But that was least of my worries with this product.
I purchased this about 2 weeks ago in anticipation of a new computer build for a relative. And I needed something to put a Windows 7 .ISO file on for installation.
Well here I am 5am 7 hours after finishing my build. Now with half of that computer ripped apart troubleshooting all of the components I had previously assembled looking why A brand new SSD and then Brand new Hard Drive "Wouldn't format" properly/stopped mid-way through my installation of windows. (I know it was formatted properly, As I used DiskPart in command prompt to clean, create primary part, format, assign, and mark the drive as active) Tried formatting in a working computer, the SSD worked great in my system.. So? I look online, and start questioning the Kingston DataTraveler G4 drive myself.. and there it is.. cannot be used to install windows 7.
And when I come here to make mention of it? someone else had the same problem...

Other Thoughts: Was looking for a half-decent economical thumb drive to use for installing Windows with. Seen this for around $5.
I've never purchased a Kingston product before. But I know they've been around awhile so I figure I can trust in this.
Testing it out prior to attempting to use it for my intended purpose, I seen it performed on par with a simple USB 2.0 drive. left that slide.. But now that I wasted 7+ hours time?
Due to it's inability to install an operating system?
I think I will be avoiding this company from now on..

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work to Install Windows 7

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Good Price

Cons: Strange problems trying to use these to install Windows 7 .
Get the following error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition" when installing Win 7 from this USB drive. Tried a different brand usb drive and Windows installed without error.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsIs average

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Low cost

Cons: Big & slow

Other Thoughts: This drive is larger than a typical usb drive. Has a big boxy case on it and wont fit side by side with other drives. Its also no faster than a cheap usb 2 drive. It has a usb 3 interface but it's not needed.
