3 out of 5 eggsThumb drive

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Good for small amount of data from unt to unit transfers

Cons: From reading reviews, I knew it would not be real fast
It does what I expect of it

Other Thoughts: If you are interested in fast transfer rates, spend the extra twenty dollars and get more capacity also. 8GB thumb drives are not as fast as higher capacity. Turbo 3.0 on higher end flash drives is real fast.

5 out of 5 eggsNice enclosure

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Sata III
Works great for storing data or moving data from unit to unit
I initially used it for cloning hard drives to swap out

Cons: The card must be removed to connect drive, no biggie here

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Its a working flash drive.

Cons: Not 3.0 speeds, I have a lot of USB 3 drives that just smoke this thing; it does work in 3.0 slots, just doesn't move files at that faster speed.

Other Thoughts: paid 8 bucks for a 8 gig flash drive, overpaid IMHO

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the confusion about the DTIG3 flash drive. This drive is an entry-level USB 3.0 drive and does not offer performance USB 3.0 speeds. If you are looking for a performance USB 3.0 drive, please consider out DTHX30 which offer 135MB/s write in USB 3.0 ports. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Price & Good Performance

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: * Inexpensive
* Looks nice
* USB Cap fits tightly
* USB 3.0
* A litle faster than expected

Cons: Non that I can muster

Other Thoughts: Bought this with a reward card of $10 roughly used up $9.5.

Got it because I wanted to have a secondary USB Flashdrive, in case my Patriot XT finally decides to kick the curb. Considering the price, I ran a few bench marks and also copied some large files, and I am quite surprised that it performs nearly as well as my Patriot XT which is a 'performance' flash drive. It still doesn't beat it in terms of copying data to the drive, but the Kingston G4 does benefit from faster read speeds and decent enough speed. For the price to performance I think it's a good purchase for those that need no more than 8 Gigs on a USB stick. It wont blow your mind but it will work sufficiently well for average tasks, and will see how it holds up against my other flash drive over time.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: I've done a bunch of stuff with this flash drive.
I've used the flash drive as a live CD/DVD for imaging PC's.
I've put Win7 and Win8 on this USB to image PC's and it works wonders.

Works great on USB 2.0 and even better on USB 3.0

Cons: The lid that covers the USB port isn't tight anymore after a while

4 out of 5 eggsSlick

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: Usual Kingston Durability. Decent Read/Write 45MBs/8MBs (for the price point)

Cons: Slick casing makes it hard to get a grip on. One egg docked for that. Cap needs squeezed on sides to remove. Hard to do when I only have one hand.

Other Thoughts: It's ugly. I would not have bought except for very low price with promo code. I think it's going to be a gift. I'll get another Kingston G3, which I love.

5 out of 5 eggsInexpensive USB 3.0 drive

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: These USB are very inexpensive but feel decently built. They aren't the fastest USB 3.0 flash drives around but they beat the older USB 2.0 drives I have sitting around. The key hole makes them specially handy to keep them with you as a Linux USB or for important software.

Cons: It isn't the prettiest of drives around.

Other Thoughts: Prefect for replacing older boot discs of Ubuntu and Windows.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to use, good read speeds

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/8GB

Pros: This is a great choice for a flash drive. It is small, has a cap, looks good and due to its size it is easy to plug in and out of USB ports.

At USB 3.0, has great read speeds, up to 90 Mb/s.

Cons: Somewhat slow on write speeds at USB 3.0, topping 14 Mb/s.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these in a promotion for about $6.00 each. For that price, with free shipping, it was hard to argue, it was the best choice out there.

One might consider a higher capacity but USB 2.0, which you can find around easily. But as far as USB 3.0 goes, these are a good buy.
