Watch your favorite DVDs in your living room, bedroom or office with a Sony DVD player. Rich features and affordability distinguish the DVP-SR200P/B. Enjoy high quality 480p images further refined by 12-bit Video DAC technology with 108MHz processing. Not only will your movies look sharp, but your audio will sound crisp thanks to 192KHz/16bit Digital to Analog Conversion and Dolby Digital decoding compatibility.

Standard features include a 6-disc resume mode so you can swap between movies without having to start from the beginning when you return. Play your movies in fast-forward or slow-motion with sound to suit your watching preference. Sony also streamlines your experience with multi-brand TV remote control so you’ll never fumble for the wrong device. Best of all, with the Precision Drive 3 System, the player will compensate for warped, scratched or nicked DVDs and adjust the playback so your movie experience remains uninterrupted.

With several format playback abilities, like DVD-RW/DVD-R/DVD+RW/DVD+R, you can watch movies made on your computer from the comfort of your living room. Turn your television entertainment center into your favorite music station. Simply insert an MP3 encoded disc and the built-in menu system will detect compatible files. For simplicity and value the Sony DVP-SR200P/B is the smart choice.

1 out of 5 eggsCaution

Pros: It makes a good one way boat anchor, or a very tastful paper weight.

Cons: Worked for two movies, then got the checkerboard screen of death, with an added screeching sound. To add insult to injury the player refuses to give back the DVD.
I may take pleasure in getting the DVD back the hard way. It would be worth the 40 bucks to inflict illreversable damage to this demond.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS PLAYER.

Other Thoughts: I buy a lot of things from the EGG, this is not one of them. I got this local, at a large chain store.

5 out of 5 eggsFine player--and a note for "stym"

Pros: First, in the review "stym" posted on 9/9/10, a "con" was that the remote doesn't control Vizio TVs. The instructions don't list all the brands, but it does control Vizio. The code is 04.

This is a terrific basic player. I got two for a song in August 2009 and neither shows any sign of problems. Very rich picture, even at 480i, with a multitude of personal adustments. Also, unlike the Philips players (which have a million features and problems), it has a black level control (not at all the same as a brightness control)--which is absolutely essential if you want to see details in a dark context. The two Sony players (this and the SR500H) are also the last with dialog enhancers (no other maker has had them for years)--which they call "TV sound": DVD audio is compressed and usually too quiet to match broadcast sound (though less with digital broadcasts, which are quieter than analog); so this feature increases the volume by about 6 dB and brings the voices forward.

Cons: As usual with Sony, the menus are tricky to navigate at first because everything is buried three layers down. No eject button on the remote, though older Sony remotes with them work. Sony is very rigid about regions, so their products are always hopelessly region/NTSC-locked.

Other Thoughts: If you use an HDTV and don't want to go with Blu-Ray (with all its frequent glitches and unnecessary features), you might want to go with the upscaling Sony DVP-SR500H, which looks brilliant. Upscaling with HDMI also finally provides a 1:1 pixel ratio so not only is the picture much crisper but it increases picture info at the edges by eliminating overscan (with the player in 16:9 and "normal" mode and the TV aspect ratio at "normal.).

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Player

Pros: It works when you buy it.

Cons: Honestly this is the 4th Sony DVD player I've bought in 3 years... ridiculous. If they weren't only $30 at the local Walmart I'd have stopped buying these a long time ago. And to be honest, I think I'm still done. My 4th one just stopped working on me.

Other Thoughts: I think I'll finally stop being cheap, and spend a little extra money to see if I can get a good dvd player.

1 out of 5 eggsBroke after 3 months!

Pros: It was fine until it broke.

Cons: After three months and two days, just out of reach of the manufacturer's warranty, the DVD player broke. Newegg refused to do anything. Sony offered to fix it for 90% of the cost of the DVD player.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsSONY DVP-SR200P/B DVD/CD Player

Pros: Small footprint; easy setup; great menus; great value for price; fast shipping and reasonably priced

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: I really needed a new DVD player that could play any formats; after reviewing many different players, this was by far - the best bang for the buck for $40 bucks.

5 out of 5 eggsUnassuming and efficient

Pros: small! this thing is not even half the size of the DVD player it replaced. Good playback, fast and responsive and not too picky about scratches or defects on the DVD. It is simple, it does the job.

Cons: well it's not a Bluray player. Apart from that, nothing. Couldn't get the remote to connect to my Vizio TV.

1 out of 5 eggsAntiquated

Pros: Cheap

Cons: No HDMI and no 1080 upscale. For similar prices there are better quality and higher technology units out there. Even the LCD screen is from yesteryear. If the name Sony is important, then this is the unit for you. Better yet, buy the 500H at $58.88.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality and design

Pros: Played 15 discs (DVD's and CDs)

Cons: Played 15 discs then started to display the message "Cannot play this disc" no matter what disc I put in it.

Other Thoughts: Does not tell you what track number is playing on a CD. Will not play back PAL region free DVDs, just gives a Region error.
Even at $20 it was a waste of money.
