Great for engraving
This review is from: DREMEL 36" Flex-Shaft Attachment
Pros: About the same thickness and heft as a fat pen or marker. An absolute must for freehand engraving and other detail work that needs real control. Easier to manipulate than even the smallest Dremel tool, but attaches to much more powerful units. As easy to change bits as any other Dremel tool, and can flex fairly well given the speeds it runs at. For small pieces you don't need to clamp the piece since this allows you to work one-handed.
Cons: The tool needs to be positioned carefully so that the flexible shaft doesn't bend too much as you work. The whole tool vibrates if you don't, which is at least a good indicator. There are a lot of small parts that need to be swapped around when the tool is attached -- be careful not to lose them.
Other Thoughts: I've been using this mostly to engrave glass items freehand. The quality of my work improved enormously over holding the tool itself. You need a few different diamond bits if your want to do this. A decent sized pattern on a drinking glass can take 1-2 hours to do right, so you need a bit of patience and a steady hand, but that's true even it you don't get this tool.
