1 out of 5 eggsIs really not the best....

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT101G2/64GBZ

Pros: It's nice to have something that offers 64GB of storage. I can't really say too much more about it being good.

Cons: Alright, so perhaps it's because I'm spoiled on better alternatives that I think that this drive is not good. So I'll give my current point of comparison: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211764

The ADATA drive says that it offers 90MB/s read and 40MB/s write, and the actual drive isn't far off - being 75MB/s read and 45MB/s write. It makes it really clear to the user what it offers. The Kingston one? Well as you can see in its description, it has two things listed there and one of them says USB 2.0, and the other says 64GB. Hey, guess what? It's in the name too!
And then specifications? Nope, no device rating in the specification. None at all. It would be a great help if companies actually started adding in benchmarks to show how competitive their pricing is, but if they're losing, I guess it doesn't make much sense to...

For comparison, I get consistent read speeds of 15MB/s and consistent write speeds of about 5MB/s on this drive. It's quite literally trash in comparison.

As I've already said, the ADATA drive (without any discount) costs $24. It has limited lifetime warranty, but I trust ADATA's parts. I have never seen my ADATA RAM nor SSD ever run into errors during their use. This drive on the other hand, offers a bit less data at $30. I've seen a lot of reviews claiming that they're getting such a good price off this product, but I guess they haven't actually considered alternatives.

I'm not having any issues with this drive, but I regret buying it. Not all USB 2.0 drives are this slow. USB 2.0 has a theoretical bandwidth of 480Mb/s = ~80MB/s, which is certainly more than 15MB/s or even 4MB/s. I hope that Kingston reconsiders its marketing strategy, because obscurity really is not going to cut it.

5 out of 5 eggsIt does what I paid for

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT101G2/64GBZ

Pros: I read the reviews and Kingston's responses before I bought it.

It is not fast - it is not supposed to be. If you want a fast USB 2 Thumb Drive look elsewhere.

Yes, it formatted at less than the advertised 64GB vs. 57.8. I knew this from the reviews

With no insult intended to Kingston, it is a tractor, i.e. it is ugly, slow and gets the job done.

It is backed by Kingston and based on their responses here, they care about customers' concerns.

Cons: None really.

Read the reviews and Kingston's responses and if this tough tractor is not what you want then look elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: Formatted it and used it to save some stuff before working on a system. When done, reformatted it and used it to save a system image inside the case. The reviews indicated a tolerance to temperature issues and pocket dust.

I popped the side panel and pulled it out to check on the format size for this review - it worked.

1 out of 5 eggsLots of storage for $$ at a snail's pace

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT101G2/64GBZ

Pros: High Capacity.

Cons: Slow as Molasses. Slowest 2.0 USB that I own. Only saving grace is high capacity for storing "someday" needed information.

5 out of 5 eggsHere is my opinion on this

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT101G2/64GBZ

Pros: I love that there is no cap to loose or has a slide like other usb thumb drives. This is perfect to me runs fat32 and runs on 98se/win me/xp all of them/vista 32bit and 64bit/win7 32bit and 64 bit/also runs without any issue on win8.
i keep it fat32 and do not change it over to Ntfs.
writes files and reads without issues.Does take a little bit to copy say a Big Hard drive doing a backup, but it does do it just fine. And for people that switch it over to Ntfs to get better performance,i say leave it alone and can use it on any os ;)

Cons: Wish was bigger, but then again can't beat 40.00 coming with 64gb.And for those of you who do not like the color seriously who cares(sarcasm) ;)

Other Thoughts: I recommend this product.Does what it suppose to and does it well.Do not format it to ntfs leave it fat32.
And also no does not stop the fan cpu from running or any other stupid thing.Knowledge is power but some people just really scare me ;)

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT101G2/64GBZ

Pros: Only $40 Dlls, looks good and comes from a very reliable brand.

Cons: Very slow, relatively speaking. If you buy this, do it on the knowledge that the average writing speed is 4 MB per second.

Other Thoughts: I already knew this was a slow drive when I bought it, so it did not bother me that much the writing speed.

2 out of 5 eggskind of awful

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT101G2/64GBZ

Pros: large capacity
can be attached to key ring

Cons: horrendously slow, will begin at 12-14 MB/s and then slow to about 1.5 MB/s after half the file has transfered, regardless of size or fs format

my particular unit is VERY touchy, i often need to reseat or jiggle it within the USB slot a few times before seeing the LED blink to be recognized

Other Thoughts: i've cursed at this thing more times than any other product i own

5 out of 5 eggsBest Value and Super Reliable

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 G2 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT101G2/64GBZ

Pros: Low price, Kingston high quality, backed by a 5 year warranty, durable, pretty fast for USB 2.0, massive 64 GB capacity, nice green color. Kingston manufactures their own USB flash drives, they don't just put their name on someone else's stuff. Kingston is QUALITY. It is the only brand of USB flash drives I have purchased, for years. Their Data Traveler SE9 is another GREAT device. Made from one piece of heavy stainless steel, with integrated keyloop. $10 for 16GB in the data traveler SE9 and it is super durable. Kingston is the best, Kingston offers the best value. Buy Kingston, or you will regret buying a competitor.

Cons: My only wish is that it could be 128 GB and USB 3.0. However, I only paid $36 for it, which is about 60 cents per gigabyte---a great price.

Other Thoughts: 5 year warranty says it all Also, check out their Data Traveler SE9, all stainless steel, super dense and small.
