This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: Fairly fast at a good price. Plenty of storage for all my manuals.

Cons: Needs a way to keep the dust and dirt out of the connector.

2 out of 5 eggsWill not buy another of these

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: Cheap, blinking LED

Cons: VERY SLOW! I bought this to work with a video recorder that says it typically works with any USB drive. Well not this one. Way too slow! I trying another drive from another vendor.

Other Thoughts: I like Kinsington for the quality I have seen from them in the past, and this unit may last years, I don't know, but I will not be using it much since it is so agonizingly slow. Glad it was cheap!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. The DT101G2 is not a performance drive and does not offer high transfer speeds. Typically, with video recording especially is HD one would need a transfer rate of at least 10MB/s. Our DT100G3 does offer this write speed at the same capacity. Although, a performance drive may be better suited for your purposes as it would reduce write time and allow you to record easier without losing time such as out DTR30 or DTU30G3 which offer 70MB/s in USB 3.0 and around 25MB/s in USB 2.0. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective + cumbersome Kingston return process

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: Small size

Cons: Failed on second day while on a long overseas trip. Cover is worthless design, Kingston's return process awful, inarticulate directions on line or sent by Kingston that were computer generated. You need a microscope to read the numbers off the unit to return, most manufactures would just send you another one at their expense but Kingston insists you go through their hoops and return it after a clunky RMA process. I used to think of Kingston as a class act, but not now. Just more Chinese manufactured stuff with poor QAQC. I would pay more for US made equipment of higher quality if it was available.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.
Also, read the NewEgg's "product review guidelines" that result in denial of posting that include: "Criticism of Newegg.com's service or the service of our operations partners. (FedEx, UPS, Paypal, etc." You draw your own conclusions.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue that occurred with the DT101G2 flash drive. We stand by our products and do perform testing on all products before they are shipped out. Although uncommon, as nothing is perfect, it is possible that some products may be DOA or fail. In these instances we can replace the product under it's warranty, this can be achieved online (in some regions) as well as by phone. We can also be reached by phone to clear up or fully explain the process if the email or online instructions are unclear. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

3 out of 5 eggs29 out of 32

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: It holds 32 gigs of digital stuff. Its fast, and easy to use. Reformat it to NTFS to upload large files to this thumb drive to make good use of the storage space.

Cons: IT ONLY HOLDS 29 GIGS. You cant tell me that 3 gigabytes of storage is meant for something else, why allocate that much disk space to something other than storage? Thats a bit too much. My Corsair 32gb holds 30gbs, why cant this one?

Other Thoughts: Kingston should repackage this to reflect the actual amount of data storage on these packages.

2 out of 5 eggsVery slow to be recognized

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: Large capacity, good file transfer speeds.

Cons: When first plugged in, it takes a minute or so to be recognized as a drive letter. This is a very long wait time--much longer than other flash drives and unacceptable to me.

Other Thoughts: I bought a second Kingston DataTraveler, thinking that the first one was defective, but the second one behaves the same way.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent choice

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: No stupid cap to lose: reasonably fast (for USB 2.0): easy pocket size: no "bloatware" on it.

Cons: Easy to lose, apparently. :-(

Other Thoughts: I lost mine recently - probably left it in the airport security bin. Stupid, but there you go. I am ordering another one to replace it. The flip-over connector protection works well - I had my old one for a year and never had any problems. Yes, you need to format it for NTFS for large files, but that's easily done. Access times are reasonably fast, and the little access light in the center is a good indicator of activity.

2 out of 5 eggsProblems

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: Large storage at a good price

Cons: File type is FAT and it won't accept large files unless it is converted to NFTS. I don't like the folding cap; it gives inadequate protection.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: I loved it! My transfer speeds were from 9-12mb/s so It wasn't too bad at all. I constantly used it for transferring large video files from home and work daily.

Cons: it's easy to lose, I misplaced mine and can't find it now.... *sigh*

Other Thoughts: Giving it 4 eggs b/c of the swivel cover. Since I've been using it so much, it's starting to move very easily and not as stiff as before.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model DT101G2/32GBZ

Pros: This drive has a lot of good things about it. You don't need a Y Cord to run it. It runs just fine on my HP laptop that's four years old. It has no top to lose It has a weird color that sets it off from my others. It is reliable, I plugged it into my lap top and was instantly recognized and ready to go same with my desk top.

Cons: It is not a speed demon but I have slower ones that don't have quite the storage room this does. But it is slow you have to wait a bit 5 or 10 seconds for it to save and it is about a fourth full.

Other Thoughts: I would and have recommended it to a close friend.
