1 out of 5 eggsThere's better drives...

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: Sturdy Design.

Cons: - Bulky. VERY bulky... this one drive may block other usb ports. Why so big? my 256GB drive is smaller then this thing..
- USB 3.0? LOL. the only thing about this that's 3.0 is the tip. This drive has NO BENEFITS to usb 2.0 - VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH KINGSTON. all their products have been very unreliable lately. I bought a 3.0 drive last year and it's much bigger, and MUCH faster (3-4x faster).

Getting only 20-30mb/s write speeds means this drive is useless to me. I

Other Thoughts: Bought this for 14.99 during a shell shocker, opened one up and plugged it in, tried to transfer a file over and noticed that it's absolutely horrible. Sending it back in the AM.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer some clarification. Our DT100G3 flash drive is an entry level USB 3.0 drive and does not offer performance USB 3.0 speeds. If you are looking for a performance USB 3.0 drive, please consider out DTHX30 which offers up to 135MB/s write in USB 3.0 ports. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for choosing HyperX.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid but slow

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: Good build quality, very sturdy. No cap to lose!

Cons: I've noticed that this drive is a LOT slower than my previous thumb drives. It might be because this is a 32 GB drive and all of my previous drives have been 8 GB, but when I plug this into any computer, there is a longer than usual hunt time for it to find and access files. Copying files from one folder in the drive to another folder in the drive takes a good 1-3 seconds, even with something as small as a single word document.

Other Thoughts: If I'd known how much slower it would be, I think I would have picked a different thumb drive. If I had had to go back to an 8 GB drive to get the speed back, I'd have gone for an 8 GB drive in a second. 32 GB is nice, but it wasn't necessary for my needs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive, great price!

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: This drive has a nice solid feel to it, good construction and overall good read and write speeds. I didn't benchmark drive but I was quite pleasantly surprised by the transfer speed considering the price. Everything was plug-and-play, nothing to set up, no complaints!

Cons: Compared to some of the other models out there this drive is rather bulky considering the technology. I have many more drives with comparable performance that have a smaller footprint, but also cost more.

Other Thoughts: All in all I kind of regret that I did not get more of these drives while they were on shell shocker special. I use flash media a lot as I run the computer repair business... considering that I rarely charge for drives, these would've been great to have in bulk.

2 out of 5 eggscompatibility issues

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: Very low price..

Cons: Hit and miss compatibility.
On some computers I have to plug these into a USB port, wait for the driver install to fail then plug into another USB port. (You old-timers will remember USB devices that had this problem) This is a pain since on many machines these days it is hard to find an empty USB port at all.
The stick is a little of the fat side so it presses up against adjacent USB plugs in in unhealthy way.
Of course this compatibility issue makes these impractical to use as a bootable device.

Other Thoughts: If you are just going to copy a few files and throw the stick in the vault then these might b OK to buy.

5 out of 5 eggsI wish I'd get more of these on sale!

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: 1) Price (less than $0.50 per GB)!
2) Speed (USB 2.0 tested)!

Cons: There is only one thing I am upset about - activity LED absence! Come on, LEDs aren't that expensive, install one already!

Other Thoughts: I do not have USB 3.0 systems, so I use and test for USB 2.0 speeds only:

Writing speed: 19.1 MByte/s
Reading speed: 30.6 MByte/s
Software sued for testing: H2testw v1.4

Impressive! Especially for the price!

1 out of 5 eggsNothing Happens When Plugged In!!!

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: Okay price for a 32gb flash drive

Cons: After newegg had already shipped out this flash drive, I read in reviews that this is not a "USB 3.0 Performance" drive. The description only means it can be used in a USB 3.0 port but at 2.0 speeds. So I had to convinced myself it was still a good price for a 32gb USB 2.0 flash drive.

Other Thoughts: I received it last week and today I finally got a chance to use it. When I plugged it in my 3.0 port, nothing happens!! But it works in a 2.0 port. What's going on?? I own 7 different flash drives for different things, all of which are USB 2.0, all of which works when I plug it into my 3.0 port. This one I bought which should be USB 3.0 'compatible' does not work!! I'm so upset and feel so ripped off. Spent $20+ on this and I don't even think its worth it to spend money to send it back to Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer some clarification. The DT100G3 is an entry level USB 3.0 drive, meaning is is compliant with USB 3.0 standards but does not offer performance speeds. This drive should work in all USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. It would be best to make sure all USB and chipset drivers are up to date to ensure proper functionality of the drive. If that is not an issue the drive can be replaced under it's five year warranty. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsKingston DataTraveler

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: Been working fine for almost a year, use it most every day!

Cons: SLOW SLOW SLOW!
Don't expect blazing fast USB 3.0 speeds!

Other Thoughts: My biggest CON is of NewEgg itself, their support and the way they are packing their products has gone way down hill in the last year..Been using A.azon more often because of this.Been a customer of NewEgg for over 10 years but they seem to not care much anymore about good support like they use too!

1 out of 5 eggsVery slow transfer speeds

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G3/32GB

Pros: - Price is reasonable
- Ability to protect USB dongle
- Good design

Cons: - Very slow speed: 7MB/sec at best.
- Turns out the USB3 on it means the device supports USB3, but does not necessarily run at USB3 speeds!! It is all a marketing gimmick

Other Thoughts: I always held Kingston in a special level on their own ahead of the rest when it comes to RAM/USB sticks. However, their latest marketing gimmicks will definitely make me think twice before paying for the brand anymore.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for any confusion with the DT100G3 flash drive. This drive is an entry level USB 3.0 compliant drive, not a performance USB 3.0 drive. We do have several performance USB 3.0 drives available such as the DTR30, DTU30G3, and DTHX30 which offer write speeds of 30MB/s and up. For further assistance or more information, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
