2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Tough case, and large hole for key ring that cannot break off or otherwise fail, as so many other attachment points do.

Cons: Often does not get recognized by several Windows machines, unless inserted and removed several times. Works flawlessly when it finally DOES get recognized, but it's annoying to have to play around until the computer finds it. This has happened on machines with Vista, Win 7, and Win 8 OS.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTSE9 flash drive. We stand by all our products and can replace the drive under it's five year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsKingston 16GB USB Drive

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: This USB drive is small, large capacity, large key hole, single piece. There is no cap to loose.

Cons: I have noticed that the transfer rates are slow, even for a 2.0 device. The pros of this little USB drive far outweigh the transfer rate.

Other Thoughts: This USB drive has a lot going for it. It is small, yet has a reasonably large capacity. It has a large key ring hole, made entirely of metal. One solid piece, no cap to loose. For a USB drive to put on your key chain it is quite stylish and convenient.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat stick

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Great little memory stick, love the ring permanently built into the design.

Cons: Runs hot under my *constant* use (writing an image file approx every 30-90s 24/7).

Other Thoughts: I use it on a security camera for local backup/storage of captured images and have mounted a small heatsink to it since it was very hot to the touch. The aluminum case may also be funneling heat from the camera itself. I have been running it like this for almost 6 months now and it hasn't failed yet. I expect it could survive anything normal usage throws at it. :)

4 out of 5 eggsGood capacity, tough little drive

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: -Tough flash drive
-Holds up to 16 GB of data
-Reliable (5 months, rides everywhere on a key ring in a pocket)
-Solid metal hole for key ring, lanyard, etc. (no plastic/glue here)

Cons: -Poor relative price/GB ratio
-32 GB models are already about the same price
-Slow transfer rate (I know it's only USB 2.0... it's still a little slow)

Other Thoughts: This is a great flash drive. I don't mind its relatively slow transfer speed. I formatted this drive exfat so I could use it with Mac and PC and store files larger than 4 GB (FAT32 no like >4 GB). The hole for your key ring/lanyard/etc is solid metal and plenty large for whatever you're hooking it on. It's a little slow at transferring large files (500 MB and up). If you need 16 GB on your key ring right now, get at least 32 GB instead. If you need 32 GB on your key ring now, get 64.

5 out of 5 eggsDiscreet storage for pocket or keyring

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: These simply work. Worth the dollars. They are small enough to go through airport security and not setoff the TSA bells and whistles. I forgot them twice in my pocket at Burbank.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The end of the key tends to get scratched when you plug it in the usb port.

1 out of 5 eggsSLOW transfer rates

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Great form factor.

Cons: The transfer rates are in the 2-4MB/s range for a big transfer.

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 8GB drives and this 16 GB and they are all brutally slow to write to. These are significantly slower than other older Kingston flash drives that I have.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTSE9 flash drive. This model is an entry-level USB 2.0 drive and does not provide performance transfer speeds. If you are looking for a performance speed drive, please consider one of our USB 3.0 performance drives such as the DTR30G2 which offers a write speed of 25-45MB/s depending on capacity. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
