5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: It's a USB 2.0 drive and it works just fine, even after a year. Small and compact. No moving parts or caps to lose.

Cons: Not USB 3, so a bit slow by 2015 standards.

5 out of 5 eggsConstant Key Ring Rider

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Metal case allows it to ride on my keyring ,every day ,everywhere I go. It is my constant companion for over 2 years ( maybe 3 ) and i take it wherever i go. I have broken the little plastic retainers on other drives or the little cables --not so on this drive.

Cons: Write speed is shall we say "not fast" but i am not looking for a solid state hard drive--I know its limitations.

Other Thoughts: This Drive has been riding on my keyring for over 2 years. It has shiny spots on it where the keys have rubbed on it as well as where it has been plugged in repeatedly.. It is my backup of important stuff. No moving parts so banging it around is not an issue. I keep it with me ALWAYS and it allows me to access my files from any computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Drive

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: I've owned some of these for a few years now and just picked up 10 new ones to rebuild by live OS disk since my old ones(built on a different brand of flash drive) are starting to fail. These are tough, hanging from my key chain and never had a problem. I suppose since there is no cover dust/dirt can build up in there but really you can rinse these bad boys off, dry them well and they will continue to tick.

Cons: none in my experience.

5 out of 5 eggsA sturdy simple Flash Drive

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: + Easy to plug in and pull out
Since the drive is always open, it's easy to plug it in, remove or add the data needed, and then pull out again without needing to cover or withdraw a covering.

+ Able to connect to keychains or other item collection devices.
Because of the circular hole at the end of the drive, it holds on really well to keychains or other ring bindings. Thus far there has been no breakage at the joint from daily usage.

+ Durable in memory usage and structure
I've had mine for three plus years and it still works like a charm

Cons: - Drive design leaves port open to the elements
Because of the unique design of the drive, the port is left open with no way to protect it.

1 out of 5 eggsStopped Working

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Sleek, inexpensive

Cons: No cover for connector. Dirt accumulates and stops working

Manufacturer Response:

Jeffrey M,

I'm sorry to see that you were not 100% satisfied with this model of USB drive and for experiencing the drive coming to a stop. I've created a case, SR285422, contact us back at, Kingston Techincal Support line: (800) 435-0640 (714) 435-2639 Monday - Friday 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. PST, and we can further assist in getting this drive replaced for you.

I just wanted to bring to your attention that we do have other models of usb drives that my accommodate your needs. The following drive, has roughly the same specs and does come with a usb connector cover. Our DTIG4/16GB usb drive is a great 3.0 alternative to the DTSE9 drive that has the same 3.0 specs and does have a cap to prevent the outside elements from entering the usb connector.

Thank you for using Kingston Technology as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Price, But Slow

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Casing is a single piece of aluminum that feels very solid. This thing has been riding around on my keyring for a week or two and shows no signs of wear yet. No cap or moving parts which I consider a plus because those things just break or get lost.

Cons: Very slow writes; took me over an hour to write a bootable Windows 7 iso (3GB) to the drive. Although I will say that I didn't notice any serious read-speed issues once I plugged it into the machine where I installed Windows.

Other Thoughts: I would be wary of using these as boot drives, but for general portable file storage, they're a fantastic deal.

No comments on longevity since I haven't owned them very long. I bought 5 of them so I should have a good sample size to test for early failure.

1 out of 5 eggsDead within 2 years with 100% fail rate among many drives

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: They work, for a little while

Cons: I bought a handful of these things about two years ago. Every single one has failed within that time, some of them after being plugged in only a few times. Don't waste your money, these things are garbage.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

This review is from: Kingston Digital 16GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Works great. Stores data. It's a USB drive, there isn't much to it. It works exactly as expected.

Cons: None. Again, it's a small USB drive. There isn't anything wrong with it.

Other Thoughts: It's a small USB drive. Much smaller than in the pictures. It fits perfectly on my key chain without being bulky. I love it.
