5 out of 5 eggsWorks as it should

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Had this for quite some time now, carry on a key chain in my pocket every day. Has not failed one time. Is it as fast as others? I don't know or really care, it works great for keeping and moving text and other data files. It has gotten wet, dirty, and a little beat up by other things in my pocket, but never a problem. With an adapter it works with my android phone.

Cons: Wish it had a micro usb connector for my phone (that I did not own when this thumb drive was purchased).

5 out of 5 eggsThe best drive I've ever owned.

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: I am a professional system administrator in the IT industry, and I use flash drives a LOT. (For imaging/repair purposes) This drive has held up past all my other drives for years. All the others break because they're made out of cheap plastic, but this drive has a full metal (unibody I guess) case making it more sturdy.

Yeah, there's other full metal unibody drives out there, but this one is more affordable.

The big metal hole on the back of it makes it easy to clip onto things, and also serves as a handle for pulling out the drive.

Cons: Nothing! Really!

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Can't rate speed. Bought to carry as recovery drive for Windows 8.1 on hybrid tablet. 1 solid piece of stainless steel, bravo.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked good while it worked

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: 16GB, metal case feels sturdy, transfer speeds are acceptable.

Cons: 2 months into its life, I plugged it into a USB port on my computer, and it failed. Tried on several other computers. It's dead, Jim.

Other Thoughts: Worked good while it worked, mine just had some bad luck

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive for a great price

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Good Gb to dollar amount ratio.
Trusted brand name.
Extremely reliable and rugged.
Great transfer speeds for the price.

Cons: None. Great flashdrive.

Other Thoughts: Other posts have bashed this things transfer rates. This drive wasn't made for fast transfer speeds. If you are looking for a performance drive, then this isn't the drive for you. If you are looking for a great rugged drive that you can put on your keychain and not worry about it working, then you have found it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood USB

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: - Small
- Durable
- Easy to Carry on a Keyring
- Decently fast for USB 2.0

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: I like these little flash drives so much that I own two of them. While they are only USB 2.0, they are still relatively fast. They are very easy to put on a keyring and not worry about them ripping off or some plastic casing being broken rendering the stick unusable. I have had one of these that has been my faithful companion with Windows 7 on it for about a year and a half, and I just got a second one that will be traveling with me for Windows 8. I have nothing bad to say about these flash drives.

2 out of 5 eggsPossibly got a dud?

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Large Capacity
Excellent Price (<$1/GB)
Metallic casing makes it small and sleek

Cons: I must have received some memory from a bad batch, because it overheats like crazy if I try to copy more than a few megabytes at a time. The outer case metal gets very warm to the touch, so we're seeing at least a 15 degree C temp rise after only a few minutes. When moving several gigabytes, the heat causes it to slow down the transfer rate so it takes much longer to copy, and that's WITH a fan pointed directly at it to provide some airflow!

Other Thoughts: So far it has not corrupted any of my data, but I'm watching its performance carefully. I bought this product specifically because it was a Kingston brand.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Peter,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTSE9 flash drive. The operating temperature of the drive is 32° to 140° F (0° to 60°C), so the drive can become warm to the touch with prolonged use but should not become too hot to touch. The metal casing makes the temperature of the drive much more noticeable as it more conducive to heat. The DTSE9 is an entry level USB 2.0 drive and does not offer performance transfer speeds, so moving several gigabytes, would take some time and the speed experienced may not be caused by the heat. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine if the drive is performing properly. If not, it can be replaced under it's five year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Tough case, and large hole for key ring that cannot break off or otherwise fail, as so many other attachment points do.

Cons: Often does not get recognized by several Windows machines, unless inserted and removed several times. Works flawlessly when it finally DOES get recognized, but it's annoying to have to play around until the computer finds it. This has happened on machines with Vista, Win 7, and Win 8 OS.
