Pros: The video quality is absolutely stunning. Low light performance is beyond what I ever expected and surpasses the low light quality that my recently retired XL2 and GL2 provided. The image stabilizer is amazing and the auto focus using face recognition is spot on. The touch screen also lets you specify what you want the camera to focus on or whose face should have priority.

The design is compact and fits well in my hands, the touch screen is fairly intuitive and easy to use. The swipe functions could be a little better but you get used to them. All in all while the price may cause some heartburn, I have to say that this was a fantastic buy and I have absolutely no regrets.

Cons: Very short battery life for the price, this camera should have come with an extended life battery. They say it's a 2 hour battery, but don't expect to get 2 hours out of it. The camera uses a lot of power even when it's not recording.

Limited MAC support, OSX can't read the files straight from the camera, however provided you don't record in 24p, you can import any file with iMovie. I haven't tested this with FCP-X.

Canon branded accessories for this camera are excessively priced.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a fantastic camera. I do recommend buying it and am confident that you will be very pleased if you do.

If you're a MAC user, be ready to import with iMovie and do not record in 24p. As I mentioned before, I haven't tested the import functionality with FCP-X so I can't tell you whether it can read 24p or not.

Pros: Great camcorder for run and gun applications, price point is good for performance, all 58 mm external lenses and filters from the HFS-100 camcorders including battery and external chargers will work as well as the Canon external microphone with the mini proprietary mounting.

Cons: Keep in mind the price of this camcorder - this is a PROSUMER CAMERA SO DON'T THINK IT WILL COMPARE TO A EOS 5D MKii ... also the camera shoots slightly on the cool side of the spectrum ie: output (color balance) in any mode or filter applied is slightly blue but easily corrected in post - post with good software will yield video that is so good you can mix it with the EOS 5D MKii material and rarely see the difference excepting very low light shots.

Very low light video will be slightly grainy - use the low light options or cine mode to reduce this or if you have a 5D MKii the choice is simple.

Forget about taking stills - this is a video camera with stills for desperate moments.

1/3 inch vs 1/4 inch CMOS sensors - bigger is better and large pixels vs small - makes this single sensor work well in low light and shadows.

Other Thoughts: Very good image stabilization - get a larger battery and 58 mm filter for the lens - internal 32 GB memory is adequate for most work so you don't need to buy additional to populate the A and B card slots. Works well with RAYNOX fish-eye and wide 58 mm mount lenses but these lenses do reduce the clarity slightly (light reduction and focus) due to their optical parameters.
