2 out of 5 eggsCheap, don't work well

This review is from: Sennheiser HD429s Over-Ear Headphones

Pros: - They fit around my ears
- The sound quality is alright

Cons: - The Big One: the connection is bad; I have to fiddle with the headphones connection to the cord in order to hear through both sides
- Feel light and cheap

Other Thoughts: I would not purchase again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value, very light and comfortable

This review is from: Sennheiser HD429s Over-Ear Headphones

Pros: Bought as a Christmas present, on holiday sale. Recipient is very happy! I tried these for a few minutes, compared to more expensive Sony MDR V6 and MDR 7506. These are lighter, and very comfortable. Sound is almost as good as the Sonys and better than two other celebrity-branded headsets I also compared: VModa M100, and $200 MSRP 50cent . Sound is overall quite balanced and neutral. Sound isolation is really good. Plus you can use them for phone calls. In terms of price/performance and neutral sound (I hate boomy, artificially boosted bass) these are a great value.

Cons: Deep bass could be better, for example "Ophelia" on the Natalie Merchant live album. It's still good, just not on a par with higher end phones, but for the price it is more than good enough.

Other Thoughts: Great for anyone who wants to listen to music and also handle phone calls easily. Super light and comfortable.

4 out of 5 eggsSounds great with a bit of EQing

This review is from: Sennheiser HD429s Over-Ear Headphones

Pros: Clean, clear, flat sound and comfortable on the ears. I was also surprised to discover that the "powerful bass" doesn't mean that the headphones have arbitrarily inflated lows, so things still sound pretty even.

Cons: A "flat" response is desirable in headphones, but I feel like this one has a bit of a peak on the mids. In order to listen to music at a high enough volume to be happy with the bass response, I had to scoop out mids from 250Hz to 2KHz.

Other Thoughts: I got these after my 8 year old, daily use Sennheiser HD 202's started shorting out. I was a bit concerned about spending twice as much as it would cost to buy a new pair of HD 202's but it seems these are a little better in just about every aspect. While no one thing blew me out of the water, every little thing adds up to a worthy purchase, assuming a good sale price.

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied with purchase

This review is from: Sennheiser HD429s Over-Ear Headphones

Pros: Simple, able to wear when taking calls

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Am very happy with the two i purchased. I use them when working out and when doing training in a noisy environment. They cut out a lot of the ambient noise...but not all...so I can maintain aware of my surroundings when out on the streets.

4 out of 5 eggsHeadphones

This review is from: Sennheiser HD429s Over-Ear Headphones

Pros: Fit well, good sound, good price, so far appear to be well constructed.

Cons: Sound not as good as a higher priced set, but not tinny

Other Thoughts: Bought these for gaming and they are more than adequate for that purpose and do a reasonably good job listening to music. There are much better sets for music and a lot worse sets for either function.

2 out of 5 eggsAverage headphones but good value

This review is from: Sennheiser HD429s Over-Ear Headphones

Pros: Great value

Cons: low quality output
volume needs to be set very high

Other Thoughts: Comparing to my 4 year old Klipsch Reference ONE headphones, I wanted a reasonably priced pair of headphones I can use at work. When comparing the sound output, the Sennheiser is clean but about 40% as efficient as the Klipsch. This is very surprising because the specs for both are fairly close (sensitivity of both is 110 dB). When playing music from my Droid Turbo, Klipsch headphones can be at 50% volume, while the Sennheiser requires to be at 85% or higher and still doesn't play at the same volume.
