1 out of 5 eggsDidn't use, no manual

Pros: never used it

Cons: Comes with no manual, just a link. When you go to their website the manual button in no-op so you have no idea how to properly use this device.

Other Thoughts: They charged me over $9 US to pay the return postage for a one pound package across town.
Next time I buy from another source.

4 out of 5 eggsOne small thing to watch for...

Pros: Price. Box includes station, adapter, USB cable and instructions. 2.5" and 3.5" drives fit in easily. No problems hooking up to my laptop via USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter.

Cons: One minor one. This dock is plastic. That's fine for everything except heat transfer. I put a 3.5" 7.2K mid-line Seagate drive in. For short-term use it is fine, but if the drive is in there for a long time and being actively read from or written to, it heats up fast. And the plastic is a poor conductor of heat. This may be less problematic with a 2.5" drive, but I would be really careful putting, say, a 3.5" 10K RPM drive in there for extended periods of time.

Other Thoughts: I got acceptable speeds using a middle-of-the road 7.2K RPM SATA II drive. As I said above, I used a USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter in my laptop. I could consistently get 55 MB/s+ speeds from the 7.2K laptop drives to the unit. I could get as high as 90-100 MB/s but those speeds settled down pretty quickly.

Other than having to watch out for a drive to heat up in it, I like it and I think is is very useful if you need to just drop a drive in and write some files or clone an OS.

5 out of 5 eggsArchgon 3507

Pros: Bought this as a backup storage drive for photos. After formatting a 3 TB drive I could only acccess 2 TB. Emailed Charles Wang of Archgon and recieved a prompt reply that helped to solve my problem.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works as well as well as my other two docking stations that hold two drives in the vertical position.

Cons: Aside from the installation guide there is no online manual or OTB [one touch backup] download available as the company claims. Cost more than other docking devices that hold two drives. Purchased this for a Hitachi 3TB drive that this docking station should support but after formatting I only see 2TB. I may be missing a step but with no online help I can't be sure.I have emailed the company and if I recieve a helpful reply I will change my review.

2 out of 5 eggsNice design, does not deliver on USB 3.0 speeds

Pros: Nice design allows for use with 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives. Includes power adapter and USB 3.0 cable.

Cons: This device has not been able to deliver the expected USB 3.0 speeds using the supplied cable. I suspect that it houses a USB 2.0 controller with a USB 3.0 plug.

4 out of 5 eggsSlick design, but no S.M.A.R.T

Pros: The best mechanical design I've seen for a dock. A huge plus is that the electronics are not exposed while the drive is powered up.

Cons: It appears that S.M.A.R.T is not implemented.

Other Thoughts: So far I've only tried this with USB 2.0.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Great

Pros: I like that it keeps drives horizontal. Ejection method just slides drive back about 1/2" so you can lift it out. 2.5" drives accomodated by a small fold-down rail.

Seems fast enough. I had 70-90MB/s transfer rates from a 7.2K laptop drive thru a USB 3.0 expresscard adapter to this unit, which had an old SATA I drive in it. I can't think of many more ways to hobble this unit; that's plenty working against it for good speeds, and it still comes thru. If I try it with a SATA II drive I will re-post results.

Driver recognized right away, as well.

Cons: I would not advise this for someone wanting thousands upon thousands of load/eject cycles, but I would think for the average hobbyist it would be great.

It is plastic, as disclosed in the ads, so banging it around all day may not be the best for it.

It won't auto-power-down drive, so you must power down before adding/removing drive. Not really a con, just something to remember.

Other Thoughts: I don't like vertical docks to drop drives into, since all mine were formatted horizontally. Maybe that does not matter anymore, but there used to be some concern about that.

All told, with a 3.5" drive in it it's like holding a large paperback book. It also "feels" more stable horizontally than with vertical or side-mounted enclosures that sit on pedestals.

Nice that it comes with 12V adaptor, 3.0 cable, and on/off switch.

Instruction sheet is more than adequate, and reminds you to power down before adding/removing drives.
