1 out of 5 eggsWorked fine....for a while....

Pros: Was cheap. Worked reasonably well for the price paid for it.

Cons: Only lasted around 7-10 days before the volume went out. Would have to turn it up to max (42 on the display) to just barely be able to hear it. And I mean that literally.....BARELY able to hear it. Especially if the car was running. The engine simply idling would almost overrun the volume. No idea what happened with it. I mean, yeah it was cheap, but you still expect it to last more then a few days really.

Other Thoughts: I have owned 2 other models of Dual car stereos. This was a replacement for one that the volume control broke on. It had a remote control so was using that for a to adjust volume....untill I lost the remote and then found out cost almost as much for a new remote as simply buying this one. This was the first one that gave me any real issues within such a short time frame. Yeah, the other 2 had something go wrong with them as well.....but that was after 3 and 4 years respectively on each. Not a few days.

4 out of 5 eggsCheap and good and feature filled

Pros: This thing has three very useful interfaces (usb, sd, 3.5mm aux) which is nice. There is no CD player, but who uses CDs for music anymore? So no problem there. I love this head unit, it's very ergonomic and very fitting.

Cons: This has got to be the most underpowered head unit I have ever seen or head of. It is advertised at 15 watts per channel (4 channels), but that is peak power, so you will get lots of distortion and clipping at that power level. This head unit only gets 5 watts of RMS (continuous) power per channel, so if you plan on getting good quality out of any decent aftermarket (or even stock!) you should consider getting an amp. This really isn't a con IMO because if you're the type of person who wants more than 5 watts (5 watts is actually plenty loud for basic usage) you should really just get an amp regardless.

Other Thoughts: Get an amp with this!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat cheap stereo

Pros: Super Cheap, SD Card is a phenomenal way to bring your music with you.

Cons: Sound quality is meh. Had to doctor the EQ a bit to get it sounding good. Once I doctored the EQ and worked on my sub/amp combo, I actually got pretty good sound.

Other Thoughts: I hooked this up to an amp and a subwoofer, and that added a nice bit of kick!

4 out of 5 eggsgood deal

Pros: good price

Cons: not very loud on its own
no clock

Other Thoughts: still think it is pretty good for 44 bucks and with a amp and new speakers youd never know it was only 44 bucks

3 out of 5 eggsRV Resoration

Pros: I put this in a 1978 RV. It is working as expected, connected to 2 small (6", 6 ohm, 6 watt) in dash speakers I pulled out of an old boom box. The rear speakers are small bookshelf speakers (8 ohm) in the back of the RV. Tuner pulls stations well. The SD card input is nice. Simple controls and display go well with my retro theme.

Cons: I lay a stocking cap on a ledge below the radio at night to deal with the now famous "too bright" display problem. It covers up the radio face. The automatic tune feature does not pull in the six strongest stations, as the manual informs us. It programs the first six stations it finds, starting at the "88" side of the FM dial. The tuning dial does have a cheap feel to it.

Other Thoughts: For the money, does what I wanted. Would have given five eggs, except that the display being too bright at night is really annoying.

4 out of 5 eggsWow all my music in the car

Pros: Wow all my music in the car
Aux connection for ipod---but having all the music on an SD is neater, easier.
Borrowing music from friends on USB
sound good enough for little commuter car

Cons: file system doesn't have titles, not really a problem, it's just like my old mp3 player.
Light is very bright. My unit is mounted very low behind the gear shift so light isn't a problem in the city. In the country, however, I think this unit will compete with night vision.

4 out of 5 eggsgood buy

Pros: super easy to install wiring is labeled right on the head unit. Also very straight forward to use.

Cons: display is a bit lacking but then again you really shouldnt be staring at the display wile youre driving eh?oh and the volume knob is a moving part so its not really "mechless" also it clicks its kind of annoying im sure its easy enough to pull the little metal sping in there out so it wont click and just be a smooth turning knob though.

Other Thoughts: my girlfriend and i both love that we can just pop our own SD/USB storage devices in and WHAMMO we have all our music right there.Another great way to use it is with Pandora radio or Last FM if you have a phone with a data plan.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for what it is

Pros: My "Pros" section is biased in that I got this thing for a steal from a local retailer for under $20 new. That said, this is about as much bang for the buck as you can get in a car media player, i.e. a unit without CD playback. What's not to like? You have an SD card slot (tested up to 4GB), USB (at least 8GB, probably unlimited), and audio in for iPods and other non-MSC based players. There's also a preamp-out to hook up an amplifier, which is a recommendation given the low power output from the built in amp. The receiver gets good reception too.

On the physical side, it's a nice low-gloss charcoal color that meshes well with dark interiors, and will probably look good in the next car I put it in, which has a dark tan interior. The controls are sparse but well lit and I love having a knob instead of all push button controls. It's very easy to install especially given the short depth; some cars can be tricky about the length of head units but I'd wager this would fit about anywhere

Cons: The display. Cthulhu save us, the retina burning, information lacking, don't drive with it on at night, bright blue display! I can't say enough how I loathe the display on this otherwise pleasing device. I swear one day I'm going to crack this thing open and solder a resistor between in the power feed to the display just to tone it down a bit. If you haven't realized it from this and other reviews, there is no way to dim it otherwise. There is no "Dimmer" lead to cut the display's power when the headlights are on, and there's nothing in the controls to do it either. That is a gross oversight in a device intended to be in the line of sight while driving in the dark.

I mentioned it lacks information as well; trying to figure out which track you are on depends on one of two things; playing it for a bit until you realize what it is, or memorizing the directory structure of your playback media and mentally enumerating it to match the display. In other words, it sucks.

Other Thoughts: As I said, my review is tainted by the fact that I spent less on this than a night at the movies with the little lady. That is why it has four eggs instead of three.

Also, when I first installed this unit I had issues with electrical stability, i.e. it would only power on every other time I cranked the car, and sometimes randomly shut off. I have since ruled out the stereo as the problem by running it on a bench testing power supply. Apparently the 21 year old Honda Accord I had it in developed some wiring problems. That car has since given up the ghost entirely, and the Dual head unit will soon find a new home in a 2000 Toyota Corolla.

I have a feeling it will outlive that car too.

5 out of 5 eggsFANDAMNTASTIC

Pros: This unit is small, uses little power and puts out a ton of sound through the speakers. I purchased not expecting much, but I really am impressed. The USB port and SD card make playing mp3's a breeze, and the audio jack makes hooking it up to your mp3 player a snap. Definately a must have.

Cons: I wish the USB port was compatible with my iphone dock.

Other Thoughts: I put this in my Toyota Camry that has had 3 stereos stolen in 3 months. It has been 6 months now, and still running strong in the car. Sounds as good as the $250 JVC stereo that was stolen last time. GREAT DEAL!!!
