Navigation

Routes
Never miss your exit with Advanced Lane Guidance
TomTom provides extra clarity when navigating difficult junctions by showing you which lane to take, so you won't miss your turn or have to make dangerous lane crossings. Photorealistic images and a pulsing green arrow indicate exactly which lane to use.

Eco Routes
Driving with these more fuel-efficient routes saves you money as well as reducing your impact on the environment. Your device can show you the route which has a lower environmental impact, using the driving data of millions of TomTom users.

Always the smartest, fastest route with IQ Routes
Despite posted speed limits, traffic traveling along a road at 8 a.m. moves at a different pace than it does at 2 p.m. Actual traffic speed is affected by rush hour, traffic light changes, pedestrian traffic, day of the week, and more. Only TomTom offers exclusive technology that evaluates routes based on actual traffic speeds, rather than posted speed limits, and will recommend the fastest route for the time of the day.

4 out of 5 eggsIgnore previous Review

Pros: Many features, free traffic, easy to use, easy on the eyes. Lifetime Map Updates, MicroSD card slot for additional maps. Overall the unit is a good GPS.

Cons: Stopped receiving signal from satelites exactly 30 days after purchase. Not pleased at all.

See other thoughts.

If I have to give a con I guess it would have to be the overall speed in which the unit receives a signal (can be up to five minutes at times), and how slow it calculates a reroute when you miss a turn.

Other Thoughts: I received an email about 24 hours after my initial review stating that there was a Leap Year bug in the software that caused the problems I was having to many models of the Sony and Tom Tom GPS units. The software update provided did solve the issue. I wanted to be sure and give a thumbs up for the software update and email support on the issue.

2 out of 5 eggsGood while it worked

Pros: Many features, free traffic, easy to use, easy on the eyes.

Cons: Stopped receiving signal from satelites exactly 30 days after purchase. Not pleased at all.

Other Thoughts: I read the many reviews and figured I would give it a try even though the majority of the reviews were not in favor of this unit at the time of purchase. Wish I went with the reviewers advice.

I will see if it can be returned or replaced.

3 out of 5 eggsNeeds A Better Screen

Pros: Routing is generally very good. I usually only trust GPS devices to get me in the general area and know there are some adjustments at the end. It hasn't been necessary to make adjustments here except for some construction. However, it has made notes of local closures and rerouted accordingly.

The lifetime traffic feature sounds good in theory although I am not sure if it actually works in my area.

Lifetime map updates are good as well.

Cons: The screen is very washed out with sunlight. The screen appears to have a glare even if the sun is not shining on it. Changing to a darker color scheme helped some, but did not solve the issue by any means. The night scheme is almost black with a few color lines. I have not bothered to change that yet, but they take being inconspicuous to a whole new level in the dark.

Just a minor complaint in that the power cord is triple the width of most power outlet cords, but it is the conduit for the live traffic updates.

I'm not sure whether the traffic is actually working here in Tulsa, but it is getting some updates about road closings from somewhere so I will assume it is.

Other Thoughts: I am fairly happy with it at the $90 price that I paid for it, but would not have been a happy camper paying the full price with the low quality of screen on this unit.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent but slow

Pros: Good price, lots of features. Much (80%) less evil than the Magellan it replaced. Having the traffic is nice, but most of the time the info is out-of-date (as I would suspect is true in most cases). Construction alerts are usually good. Setting a destination is easier than my friend's Garmin but not as easy as my old Magellan and it does not seem to find as many places, but overall the process is easy.

Cons: Painfully slow at times; has told me to turn left several blocks after where I was supposed to turn left. Often need to hold down the power button for 15 seconds before it responds.
It seems to work better after a reset (hold down the power button until your finger turns blue... there are instructions on the web-site).
Connecting with the computer to update is dicey; often the computer does not see it; often the computer alerts me that there is an update but once it is connected it says there isn't one.

Other Thoughts: Most of the time this works well, but it is far from perfect. It will show you traffic but, if you have it guide, it seems to guide you right into it. I assume it is saying it is still the fastest way it knows, but I wonder. In places I am familiar with I can do much better, but that seems to hold true for all GPS units.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, standard GPS

Pros: Good, standard GPS.

Lifetime map updates and a traffic feature built in, cool stuff.

Many customizable settings.

Strong suction mechanism.

Cons: Using the computer application for updating isn't a huge hassle, but it can take some time.

Touch screen is sluggish at times.

Start up to getting the first gps signal can take a while.

Other Thoughts: You can purchase different voices online (celebrity, cartoon, etc) which is pretty neat, especially since you get a 10$ coupon from TOMTOM after registering.

This thing gets the job done.

To use the traffic feature you MUST have the gps plugged into the car outlet with the included cable (traffic receiver built into cable)
