1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy ORICO USB cards

Pros: None

Cons: Recently purchased the ORICO PVU3-502U which is similar to this model. The 502U apparently is no longer carried by NEWEGG otherwise I would post this on the 502U info page.
These are terrible cards. The drivers on the CD provided in the box are corrupted - Many others say the same thing. The link provided in the instruction sheet & by Newegg do not take you to ORICO's driver download page. Finally when I was able to download a driver the installation failed. Tried multiple times. This card slows your PC and you cannot boot into Safe Mode with the card installed. I am lucky - this card did not destroy my windows installation as it has for others.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely would not recommend these cards to anyone.
Have been purchasing from Newegg for years. Why they would carry such a bad product astounds me!
It is not worth my time to get a return authorization and return the card. It has gone into the circular file.
It is a shame Newegg does not have a check off for zero eggs because that is what I would give it!

1 out of 5 eggsI lost the lottery!

Pros: It looks nice.

Cons: Well mine never worked. I tried the drivers on the disc, drivers from their thailand website (US site wouldn't load), and the most up to date drivers for the Via chipset from via. None worked.

The properties from Device Manager says "Status_Device_Power_Failure"

Too cheap to bother trying to send back, not to mention I threw away the packaging.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well Enough

Pros: * Cheap Price
* 4 Ports

Cons: * Driver support not quite universal

Other Thoughts: I bought this with the hope of taking a chance it might work either in my FreeBSD NAS server or my ESXi VM host. Although I knew that these platforms aren't officially supported, the price was cheap enough that I thought I didn't have too much to lose. It turns out driver support in FreeBSD 10.2 is unreliable. My USB 3 hard drive couldn't be recognized unless it was plugged in at boot time. Even then, there are errors in the log file which made me unwilling to trust valuable data with it. The ESXi 6.0 server, on the other hand, seems to work well with this card. The built-in xhci driver has had no problems with this card so far. The USB 3 pass-thru to virtual machines also works nicely. I'm enjoying using it with external USB 3.0 hard drives which has given me about 3-5 times speed increase over USB 2.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: usb3 for my old P43 system!

This ran as USB 2.0 until I installed the driver from the disk
(my system is Offline only)

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: Win 7
Gigabyte P43t-es3g, 750LGA socket
intel E8500
4gb DDR3 ram
nvidia 210 graphics card

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: I have too many peripherals on my shrinking desk so a solution is Orico's Host Controller PCI express to USB hub. It was very easy to install (about 5 minutes) and now my externals run superfast. The card is backward compatible with my klunky old USB 2 devices and they may actually run a bit faster too. I am happy with my choice of Orico's product and will come back in the future.

Cons: The Orico USB card took up my last slot in my motherboard reminding me that my desktop is aging quickly. No one likes being reminded how old they have become! he he he.

Other Thoughts: Learning that most of my USB cables are obsolete kind of bummed me out. It also made me feel much better about some of my newer peripherals, discovering they really do run faster as advertised. New cable upgrades cost way more than Orico's USB 3 Host Controller. All in all I am very pleased.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: This card Destroyed 3 usb 3.0 flashdrives and a 500gb HDD in one shot. Set it up turned on the computer and the lights flashed went out and I kissed over $150 worth of storage good-bye. I am not pleased to say the least.

Other Thoughts: I will never recoup my losses from this feasco, but I hope someone else will not experience my heartache.

2 out of 5 eggskinda works

Pros: The first two ports always give me usb 3.0

Cons: Second two ports don't give me usb 3.0 speed, windows always tells me device can perform faster when plugging in usb 3.0 devices. If usb 3.0 drive is plugged in on start up in any of the four ports windows warns me that the devices can perform faster, but once it is booted, I get usb 3.0 speed form first 2 ports.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 x64 Home Premium
MSI Z97 GD65 Gaming
8 gb DDR3 2350 ram
Nvidia GTS450 video
240 gb Crucial SSD System Drive
UEFI BIOS, GPT file system

Not worth the trouble of returning. I'll just use it as is, and hope it keeps working as is.

Installed the latest drivers from the site

5 out of 5 eggsI didn't need the ports, but . . .

Pros: My motherboard (ASUS P8 Z68 Pro/Gen3) has been a little fickle of late. I suspected it happened whenever I attached more than two USB-3 external hard drives and started writing to them. Not always, but sometimes. On a previous system, adding a 3rd flash drive to a usb2.0 un-powered hub would re-boot the system so I suspect its a power problem. Rather than chance fate and an otherwise perfectly great mobo, I thought I'd try adding a few "separately powered" ports.
The card is rated at 1.5 amps (total I think) so I've attached two drives to it and the third to a system port. So far so good - and its every bit as fast as the motherboard ports ~ 112/MB / sec SSDs, about 50 MB/sec for the external spinners (cheap storage).

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: WARNING: Make sure you connect the card to the power supply!

Win 7 Pro didn't "find" a driver for the card, so I installed it from the supplied 80mm disk. Although the driver works great, while windows was recognizing the card (during install), it reported in found a USB 2.0 'device'. It's obviously providing 3.0 performance so I'll assume who ever wrote the drivers slipped the left pinkie.

5 out of 5 eggsNice USB 3.0 card

Pros: Great Looks, Great Performance, 90 to 101 MB/Sec from a thumb drive

Cons: Web site navigation could be a little easier for some. The Search function is a little broken.

Other Thoughts: I found the latest driver right on the "Top Download" section of their driver download site. "www.oricoonline.us/download.aspx"

1 out of 5 eggsJunk, stay away

Pros: None

Cons: Drivers are not digitally signed.

Connected this to an internal PCI-E x1 slot in my Asus P5E motherboard and as required connected a Molex power cable to the device.

I attempted to install drivers off disc and was able to install them. Rebooted. Plugged in my external drive and it wouldn't recognize it.

Uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, went to their website. Downloaded newest drivers, installed, rebooted... same thing.

This thing is going back to newegg tomorrow.

Stay away as the drivers will "load" but in my case the device wont actually pickup any of the drives connected to it.

Very disappointing.

If I could give it 0 eggs I would.
